In my experience the sauna is always best when it's NOT too busy- people tend to hook up more than when its really busy and as you say everyone's searching for that elusive 11 and it becomes a frustrating waste of time.

Nothing wrong with bathhouses, they have their purpose & place in our community & if an 85 year old takes joy in visiting a bathhouse more power to him, but you have to comprehend that most men over 50 have matured out of cruising & bathhouses except for parties & tea dances or cookouts, but most of us grow out of it, it's normal and natural part of aging. It's not sad, it's what it is & it's different for each individual, but only a very small percentage of older men continue chasing sex-capades & find joy & fulfillment in the practice, most of us settle down into the enjoyment of simple things like taking naps.

@@PatrickMarano Oh, of course, Patrick... I'm generalizing from the specific... as usual for me. I was speaking from my own experience as a former denizen of bathhouses on several continents. Heck, sometimes I would even not bother to get a hotel room in a city I was visiting for a few days. I'd just pay the daily rate at the local "aquatic centre." Yup, I'm all class! I was horny 24/7... right up to 75 or so. I'll be 86 soon... these days, every so often, a molecule of testosterone will wander near my "libido central" and I will feel the "urge." Scratching the "itch" now is but a faint echo of the "big bangs" of earlier decades. However, since cancer, when I was 80, relegated my bladder and prostate to the scrap heap, and along with it most of the nerves that "serve the urge", well... as I said... I'd rather have a nap. I hope this isn't TMI... but rarely do people offer plain talk about real situations. Lots of us older guys have little to bring to the party any more... and often it's not our choice. That's why I always encourage people, who are so inclined, to play while the "iron" is hot and to do so safely. My greatest regret now is that my memory has also gone limp... it's hard work to even conjure a sexy situation in the Theatre of the Mind. Keep up the great shows... you're really good at it (Take it from a guy who faced TV lenses for a few decades in my checkered careers.)

Most beautiful place was Midtowne Spa in Denver. Had TWO jacuzzis, one indoor, one outdoor. Destroyed when the building ownership changed.

Love your video reviews! For my part, I only went to Boiler once and it was virtually empty. But it is a beautiful and clean venue. In Berlin, my scene is the sex club Lab which I believe I mentioned in the comments of another one of your reviews. You check your clothes at the door, but you keep your shoes on. That is one wild place with all kinds of guys including perhaps the most gorgeous god-like men I have ever seen: German men who looked like Thor and their Turkish counterparts who were equally built but with jet black fur and beards. Lab is like something out of a Fellini film. If you’re looking for a clean pristine facility, then forget about it. It is one ginormous hot mess. No nonsense and no holds barred!

I guess that different countries have different ways of thinking about the "right" age to go to a sauna, in my city what happens is that certain type of people prefer to go to certains saunas, in some of them you find a younger crowd 20s, 30s, the most visited ones are the ones where you find men between 30s-50s and there's another sauna very popular among daddies wich is perfect to find men in their 40s, 50s, 60s and even 70s

As a 50(ish) old guy that still looks like I’m in my 30-40s do I go with the younger crowd or the older crowd. I always want to score the highest out of 10 on any day at the sauna.

I have a friend who moved to Berlin a few years ago. He told me that the bathhouses there were so much better than anything he’d ever experienced in the U.S. - by a lot! He said it was shocking how much better the experience in Berlin was. One of the main reasons for that was the older crowd at the bathhouses much of the time.

I'm not sure if you're "allowed", but I did see poppers. The crowd was pretty nude/towels, I didn't see as many jockstraps as I have in other saunas, although you can always wear whatever you want to be comfortable

I would like to visit Berlin and um, oh I did visit Cologne. But I hear that practically every place, whether it is a bar or a bathhouse, has a lot of smokers. That is the only thing that turns me off. Is it true?Is smoking allowed inside the bathhouse?

There is a dedicated smoking room inside the sauna. It's a glassed in room with separate ventilation

I stopped using jacuzzis, straight gay bi doesn't matter when you are at risk of getting toe nail fungus or skin diseases. I won't even have a whirlpool type of jetted bath tub because they can not be cleaned enough. A hot bath without jets is mighty fine, though.
