I lived in Montreal for some months in 2003 and frequented the various (there were then many) bathhouses in the city and my favourite was definitely GI Joe. It was always full of people, and I liked the size and did not mind the stairs. Some years later, I was in Montreal for a few days for a convention and found time to go to GI Joe again. It seemed a little worn out and there were not as many people as in 2003, which surprised me. Notwithstanding, I always had a good time there. I do not remember "the throne", so it may be something new after the fire. From your description, then GI Joe is back and popular after the renovation. If I get to Montreal again, I will make sure to visit it. Thanks for the review, in 2003 I would also have given it a 8.5 rating out of 10.

I was in Montreal pre-pandemic. Don't remember GI Joe. Maybe I missed it, whatever. If I ever go back to Maple Leaf Land again, it would be Montreal. Quebec City...not much. Did not care for Toronto. There isn't as much there as I thought. Did go to Steamworks and Cock Bar and Church Street. Cock bar--Fri. night--the guys were not very good. Steamworks Sat. night...there were 75+ guys there and I had to take a locker. Didn't like it because it's small, no snack area or bar, no outdoor or rooftop patio, nowhere to relax and just talk and socialize. No pool or cold splash. Very dark inside. There were a hundred Queer guys running around in circles so fast they were bumping into each other and falling over each other and 3 trying to get thru the same door at once. The baths in my area, altho' not too fancy, have the things I just mentioned. Not a fan of dark rooms at all. I want to see face and body.

Torontos scene has shifted since pandemic a lot of closings. We used to have about 5-6 baths and a few darkroom or porn theatre/sexplay places. But since the more difficult times with HIV, it’s changed some and pandemic added to that.

Curious about something............. I've never heard the subject brought up until recently. I've always enjoyed going to the tubs. Here in Florida we have a lot of gay resorts . Going to the resorts and tubs you need to be cautious about your health and safety. I have heard recently that people have brought bed bugs home, how can this be avoided😮❤

Great question. Of course you can get bed bugs anywhere. A hotel, the subway, the cinema... try to frequent places you think are cleaned properly.

Plus while I was there it coed men and women naked guys were extra horny I didn't go naked because the event was required to clothing no nudity required I also participated with IMEN Camp which is about 300 gay nude men staying about a few days to week to ten days. I could only stay one night because I another event in Las Vegas Nevada planned before this Next year I am attending three nights I hope.

I'm so happy that you finally reviewed a place that I've actually been to. When I go to Montreal I personally prefer Oasis over GI Joe, but I think I'm probably in the minority there. Any chance you hit (& reviewed) Oasis while you were there? As for room size - how big does a single room need to be? lol
@PatrickMarano5 ай бұрын
True lol. I didn't hit up Oasis this time, but I've been many times. I'd have to go back to do a proper review (just in cast they changed anything)
@czarf5 ай бұрын
@@PatrickMaranounfortunately Oasis hasn’t been renovated since the dawn of time. They absolutely did not take advantage of the GI Joe Hiatus to be able to compete. Now The main attribute is that when GI Joe gets to capacity, the overflow ends up at Oasis

Patrick -- since this was Montreal, i have questions about a topic you havent addressed before: language. Was French the dominant language among the staff and clientele (and do you speak French)? Or are the staff fully bilingual? Were the local French attendees rude if you didn't speak French? I'm just wondering how a monolingual American would be treated by the Quebecois. Thanks.
@PatrickMarano5 ай бұрын
Everyone is bilingual. Montreal is used to welcoming tourists from the US... you will have no problems there with staff or clientele.
@Unique_5554 ай бұрын
I just came back from Montreal. I live in Toronto. Everyone speaks ONLY French in Montreal, period. Well, if you speak to someone in English they’ll answer back in broken English with a thick accent but you’ll feel like a foreigner there. People laugh, joke and hit on each other in French. There’s no single sign in English, even the STOP road sign says ARRET in French. If you don’t speak French you’ll feel dumb and people will ask you with a lot of surprise in their voice “you don’t speak French???” English isn’t liked much, it’s rather tolerated. All I heard was French, everywhere, well you hear tourists speak English here and there but Montreal is a typical French city.
@Unique_5554 ай бұрын
@@PatrickMaranowell I politely disagree, maybe at saunas the staff is bilingual but the city itself is 100% French. No one speaks English but the visitors from Toronto and the US. People get surprised if you talk to them in English and some of them legitimately don’t know a single English word. It’s not 70s anymore when Montreal was bilingual it’s very much monolingual nowadays. One will enjoy visiting Montreal with basic French knowledge, otherwise you’ll feel like an American in Paris and it’s 100% true.
@gregoryneill12343 ай бұрын
@@PatrickMaranoThank you Sir that's correct. I'm a Anglophone here in Montreal and we have a very large English population and the French population is mostly very kind and considerate and many are totally bilingual. I don't know what these other people are talking about. 🤷 Great video! 😊

I visited GI Joe in May 2016, the week before the Grand Prix. The wet sauna and jacuzzi was as Patrick described. Not very busy when I visited. I didn’t get off. A trio of hot looking guys started bareback fucking in that big room with the fuck bench. It seemed as if they were hired to perform because their behavior was perfunctory and rehearsed. They quickly left to go hang out and chat in another area of the sauna. I may have been there too early in the evening. I enjoyed Stock Bar and hanging out in the village. Montreal is very age inclusive for nightlife.

The bath houses in my the LA area were not open past 2 or 4 am. They actually closed most of them 18 or 20 years ago. Only the one that seemed to bribe the city council of Los Angeles was able to remain open. It's called slammer and it's still open. I did have a lot of fun there years ago. I now live 90 miles away from Los Angeles and haven't been to a bathhouse in years and the last time was legitimately so I could use the hot tub to help my back pain. I'm very happy that my sexuality has actually increased and matured and I survived the kink shame that I was subjected to by my ex to actually be happier now at age 69 then I ever have been before. I still believe in love and sex and I am starting my life over. I'm Ukrainian American and I have several relatives in there late 90s who are all there and very much alive. So I'm looking forward to the rest of my life. I now know who I am and who other people are and that's a very good thing.

The only guys there that night had been there since the night before (NYE) 🥴 I finally met the hottest middle eastern man who took me back to his room. As soon as we entered the room he picked up a meth pipe, smoked it and offered it to me. I politely declined and said I needed to get something from my room. I ran to my room and called a ride!! If I ever find myself in Montreal again, I’d try again 😅
