Where are the people ? Where are the tourists ? Where are the cars ? Is that SAFE to walk in Dallas Downtown in DAY light or AFTER dark ?
@ROMANABSOLUT
@ROMANABSOLUT 6 жыл бұрын
@Alberto Alaniz Alegria I returned from Dallas c. 3 weeks ago. Downtown Dallas / West End is NOT safe after dark, even during the day. In that area, 11 cops lost their lives fighting the BAD guys who control the downtown. West End DART stop on Pacific Ave and intersection with N. Lamar St is very DANGEROUS. Police is present ALL THE TIME. The black guys faces are really...scary. When I told to a hotel staff that in my city I can walk at 1:00 AM without any fear, he was really surprised. Another one told me..."well, this is West End"...

Austin is just as segregated as Dallas, if not even more segregated. I-35 basically functions as “the great wall of Austin” - white and wealthy to the West of the freeway, and dark-skinned and poor/working class to the East. Dallas is more diverse and much bigger. Austin has more natural beauty. It’s at the edge of the Texas hill country. Dallas is basically flat and sits in the middle of the inland prairies. Dallas has MUCH better freeways and public transportation. Even though Austin is smaller, it has much worse traffic than Dallas. Even worse traffic than Houston. Austin has better nightlife, but it’s all concentrated on a few streets in downtown. Dallas has several different nightlife districts. Austin is WAY more expensive than Dallas. The cost of living in Austin is almost at California levels, except without California wages or salaries. You get a lot more bang for your buck in Dallas. Austin people are every bit as snooty and stuck up as they are in Dallas, except it’s a more liberal-flavored form of snootiness. To sum it up, if I had to choose I would definitely pick Dallas. Austin *WAS* a great place to live over 20 years ago, but it has been completely ruined by overhyping and overpricing. On the other side of the equation, Dallas has really improved over the last 20 years, and has become more progressive and diverse. So, you have one city heading downhill (Austin), and another city heading up. That’s how I see it. That said, I’d rather live in San Antonio than either of those cities.

FOUNTAIN PLACE is one of my favorite Towers in the USA HOWEVER let's not kid ourselves Austin's skyline is almost the size of ((UPTOWN HOUSTON))visually seems longer and more Modern than Dallas and that waterfront is ALL YEAR AROUND and that seals the deal.

But DFW is still king in Texas big boy lol
@Brewzerr

Joe Martin - uptown Houston (I still call it ‘galleria area’) is laid out in a very different pattern than uptown Dallas. The buildings are spread out over a larger area than uptown Dallas. Dallas’ uptown blends directly into downtown, whereas uptown Houston is separated from downtown Houston by something like 6 miles. I’d have to guess that the actual number of buildings/high rises/skyscrapers are roughly the same in both cities’ uptown districts. They’re also both adding new buildings at the same rate.

Houston’s Uptown is miles away from Downtown and doesn’t have a true urban walkable feel like Uptown Dallas.
@Brewzerr
@Brewzerr 5 жыл бұрын
Serk J - True, but I think the reason for the lack of walkability is actually because Houston’s Uptown isn’t in the inner city, whereas Uptown Dallas is very much a core area and basically an extension of downtown Dallas. The two areas blend seamlessly. Can’t really compare these two different ‘Uptowns’, because it’s apples and oranges. Houston is focusing most of it’s urban redevelopment efforts on the inner loop. “Uptown” (I can’t even call it that. It’s still ‘Galleria Area’ to me) is outside the loop. The whole area was built around a giant mall. Not that I think it shouldn’t be more walkable, but Houston already has core areas like Midtown, Montrose, Med Center, and the Museum District that are much more walkable and urban, and function much better in that capacity. Houston’s ‘Uptown’ has a weird structure. It’s not classically urban, but it’s too built up to be suburban. It’s almost like it’s stuck in some limbo nether-region in between. It’s definitely more suburban in my opinion than those other areas I mentioned. Just applying the name ‘Uptown’ to it, which I’ve always thought was ridiculous, tends to make outsiders and newcomers have these unrealistic expectations. It was a shit choice of rebranding, and no one was calling it that until the mid 2000’s. Most actual natives in Houston are like me, and still refer to it as “Galleria Area”, or sometimes “Post Oak”. In other words, it’s all down to a name, or a title. In this case, the title is ‘Uptown’. I guarantee you if the short-sighted developers had just left it well enough alone and let the Galleria Area remain ‘the Galleria Area’, no one would be comparing it to Uptown Dallas. A much more appropriate and accurate comparison would be Uptown Dallas and Midtown Houston.
