This is why Murray will always be one of my favourite players. The determination he has is truly unreal. You need that to be the only guy who ever came even close to breaking the dominance of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic consistently. Other players would occasionally produce upsets, once Wawrinka made it to the second week all bets were off, who knows what Delpo with an intact wrist could have done etc, but Murray was the one who was there in the quarters, semis, finals again and again challenging them. And here he is again, 5 years after surgery that would have meant retirement for 99% of players, 5 years after pushing his body to the absolute limit to finally get to world no 1, winning against seeded opponents in grand slams.

His body basically started to break down after he got to year end #1 in 2016. He was only 29; and as we're seeing more and more in modern times, those 29-33 type years are super high level as the guys have arguably their best combination of experience/athleticism. If his body had held I think he would be on at least 5 slams, and prob 20 masters.

His tactics were superb. Wide serve in the deuce court opens up the backhand, and close the net down when Matteo looks like he is going to be defensive with his slice - having said that Matteo hit some scary slice b-hand passing shots! Also stay aggressive with his backhand, don't go slice to slice with Berrettini cos' he will just run round it and clobber a f-hand. But for me the big difference was murrays own serve - high no. of effective 1st serves and generally very well placed 2nd serves - hope this hasn't emptied the tank for the next round ??
