INSANE ENGINE FAIL - You Can See The RODS !!!

I have filmed a LOT of of engines blowing up in the last 20 years but this is the first time I have actually seen rods and parts getting kicked out the oil pan. It sucks to see your buddies tear up their stuff but at least I got the shot! lol

He was almost at the end going over a 100 mph.He Was going to fast and swerving or pulling over could have caused him to spin in his own oil causing a bigger mess.

TheCamaro5 Its standard procedure to pull to side of track as not to oil down the track like he did.Looked like he had no idea it blew up

and usually that procedure is done in the first 60ft-80ft but at nearly the 1320 ft mark that procedure could be deemed unsafe because of speed. He probably thought he blew a head gasket or something.

Kinda hard to pull off to the side of the track when you don't realize the engine is blown till half way down the track and you've trapped 120+.

Cameron Wells I'd like to see what you would do... Should he have had a diaper on it. Absolutely! But going probably somewhere between 100 and 115 MPH and having fluid all over the tires. Last thing you want to do is turn the wheel or get on the brakes. I'd rather get chewed out by the track than tear up my car. Hopefully he'll put a diaper on it before the next time he comes out.

Do you think he forgot to high temp thread lock the rod bolts? Looks like the bolts backed out then the bearings came apart and the rest of the rod blew a hole in the block. Sucks either way.

Blow up?? Thats not a blow up. Just left a rod cap behind. When he leaves at least 5 rods and half the crank on the track that is a blow up! Happened decades ago in a Sports Sedan [road race] qualifying here in South Oz.. He ran over the broken crank and the starter was hanging on the battery cable.

Nothing wrong with 2 bolt main caps. Many 4 bolt main engines give up straight via the holes needed for the caps into the main casting. Just use studs..

Do your homework n parts and then tune conservative and you to can run a 77 vega panel wagon into the high fives with a junkyard 5.3 with only a zo6 cam and springs, 80 pound injectors and nothing more save for seals and gaskets. The motor was to be a mock up for Turbo and has now made 66 passes in a year of testing and the learning curve on how to launch vs a BBC. 300 pounds lighter and now running 700 at the flex plate.
