The local FA doesn't help and one time I even got sent off for calling one of the parents a racist. Even though the results of this investigation will be used by racist football fans, it's a great thing that the Cameroonian FA does their best to combat the problem in a transparent way!

He looks up at me, right in the eyes, pauses, then says "You know people actually reduce their ages right?" Even in Brazil that is done, at least in youth leagues, they are called "Cats" the player faking identity, I actually played a couple times with a different ID. I received 3 yellow cards and couldn't play a semi final but my coach needed me, so he grabbed one of our players ID card and gave me to present to the refs so I could be registered to play that semi final, and because my coach was my step father at that moment, I got to experience a lot of these "Cats". Players born in 92 would register to the tournaments with a different ID from a guy born in 94, that was very common growing up around the youth leagues in Southern Brazil.

This also reminds me of the case of Luciano/Eriberto, a Brazilian who played in Italy from the late 90s to the mid 2010s. He came to the country in 1998 as Eriberto Conceiçao da Silva, born in 1979 to play for Bologna, and after several years confessed while he was at Chievo Verona that that was not his real name, that he was actually called Luciano Siqueira de Oliveira, and was born in 1975. Turns out he had been faking his identity since he joined the Palmeiras youth sides, as he was over the maximum age to join them at the time and assumed the ideintity of a neighbour that qualified. He served a 6 month ban and payed a fine, but was welcomed back at Chievo afterwards. He even got to play for inter for a year!

8:00 this is honestly a really good point to be considered in such a conversation and im glad it was brought up. While maybe not as common as in the past, this is absolutely a thing in many countries and people just go along with what they're told. I have friends with parents from banglesesh and others with parents from nigeria who all have birthdays of jan 1st (which is could be a coincidence but is probably Not), and they just happened to be born in a place in the world and at a time where birth cirtificates and other documentation was only a thing if you needed it. Again doesn't excuse blatant cheating but is honestly more common than some people may think.
@saniwada9 ай бұрын
even for wealthy people in Nigeria that age on their documents may not be totally accurate. My dad was born into a wealthy family in a major city in Nigeria and he isn't even sure the exact month he was actually born in. Not only is this because of a lack of bureaucratic processes to track date of birth but also because Birthdays aren't considered important in our culture the same way birthdays are valued in the west so culturally no one really cared about birthdays until relatively recently and as such a person's date of birth was only ever loosely tracked.
@abstraqtphilosophy73579 ай бұрын

I agree it has nothing to do with racism, but I think that that is because race does play an important role. Just look Gukesh D. The recently winner of the candidates tournament, he's 17 but looks 22. That's just indian genes. Some races have more testosterone than others because their environments are less contaminated or more challenging and require more production of said hormone. So of course people from some parts of the world will look older by comparison.
