I'm also not a huge fan of the tarheel nest and I'll use wood for whatever species will tolorate it. I have a massive camponotus discolor colony and they started out in this exact same foranto nest.

@@EstheticAnts cool ,would need to choose the sp that's going in carefully though .
@philippreh50782 жыл бұрын
You don't need to hydrate a wooden nest, ants that like to live in wood naturally have the ability to hydrate the brood manually. You just have to make sure they have a constant water supply. I built a wooden nest myself for my camponotus and it's working flawlessly!
@Antramblings2 жыл бұрын
@@philippreh5078 what sp have you put in it ?
@philippreh50782 жыл бұрын
@@Antramblings I have camponotus herculeanus in it, they're native to where I live. But I'm pretty sure all camponotus like wood. Don't quote me on that tho, i could be wrong. Just do a little research about a species and see if they live in wood in nature, and I'm sure they'll like a wooden nest as well!

I owed 4 tarheel mini hearths not a huge fan to be honest. Still have 2. None of your complaints are wrong except for the nest mate. That shit is so good. I use them in my Frando nests.

@@EstheticAnts I use the blockers from my other nests and just replace the nest mate with the blocker. Or if I'm up on my cleaning I have an extra I fill and swap out(easy to diy). You can scare them away by moving the nest mate until the ants on it move away. I just kinda reangle it so I don't hurt them.
