• not researching about the company • not having empathy/self reflection • bad mouthing the employer • body language/perceived energy level

Thanks for summarizing / great stuff! Best, H

Badmouthing the current/previous employer is a red flag just like somebody who is very bitter towards all their previous partners. Also, some think they should be ready to leave everything and start right away. I think that even if we really want to fill a position soon I respect if a candidate is considerate to their old employer and maybe need some extra week to finish a project or introduce another person. Then you know they will be responsible and reliable towards you as well.

One thing that candidates often forget is that they do not have to reply instantly but first should take time to rephrase the question and structure it and then answer the question

Thanks! I love your videos and have done the things you suggested in interviews before seeing this video. One additional item (especially if you are an experienced professional) is to act like you already have the job and how you will hit the ground running, also asking related questions you would ask if you were newly hired. Not being egotistical but your confidence it is a great fit. It also doesn't hurt to have developed connections (especially those who are immediately aware of your work and work style).

I am a natural introvert and I stay calm under pressure which can be a strength but can also be misunderstood as lacking motivation being too passive.
@FirmLearning3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alistair, thanks for sharing! Might actually do a video on the "introverts in consulting" topic soon, so stay tuned :) Best, Heinrich
@ajb2293 жыл бұрын
@@FirmLearning that would be great! I get the impression a majority of consultants are extrovert and some think that introverts are not suited to it. I really disagree because introverts are often observant, good listeners and deep thinkers. But for sure lots of time working with people in high pressure situations can be draining for introverts if they cannot get enough time on their own to relax and recharge.

The bare minimum of research of scouring the company website for a little while goes a long way. Very helpful!

Servus Heinrich. I wanted to thankyou for these videos. I was recently in job hunting process after my masters. Your videos were very helpful. Especially this one was a game changer for me. Following these tips to avoid mistakes, many a times I impressed the interviewers. Following the tips from your videos I got four different job offers including one from PWC for a tech consultant role in Munich. Thankyou for adding value to our lives :)

Wonderful tips! As a former consultant I suspect you have a lot experience with good and professional body language management when we talk with different type of decision makers. Can we have a video from you about that topic?

Thank you Heinrich for sharing such valuable and practical lessons for interview candidates. I think these lessons are not only valuable for people looking for their first job but also for some of the experienced candidates who are struggling to find new opportunities and mainly because of their lack of motivation or preparedness. These lessons can help then to introspect and adapt to market needs. Also it would be beneficial to add another video on the resume for management consulting roles and maybe in future few courses to tackle management consulting case studies. I really look forward to some more courses from you on udemy and coursera on management consulting case studies and framework in future. Thank you once again for sharing so much valuable and rewarding suggestions. Thank you

Hi Arihant, thanks again for your great comment and valuable suggestions for future videos! Just added the resume topic to my ideas list, indeed sounds like a good video topic. Also already working on new course content - will still take some time to complete but will of course communicate on this channel once it is done :) Best! Heinrich

I'd very much like your opinion on the opposite body language during an interview. I would normally take on the "Don Draper" style who leans back and assumes a lot of visual space, but this may sometimes be perceived as having a bit of an attitude. I've seen time and again advice against this, so during my last interview I really tried to sit with a straight back and lean mildly forward to seem interested and not overly self confident.
@FirmLearning3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Yeah would be a bit mindful of that, probably the more humble style will work better in most situations ;) Best, Heinrich

Hi, if you were an excellent employer you wouldn‘t judge anybody by how they say something but what they say. Of course it depends on the role, but brilliant companies have a culture of inclusiveness and also cherish introverted people. I found that 4th point a bit too judging on your end. Not everybody is a super cool James Bond/consultant type of person ;) doesn‘t say anything about ambition, drive and business acumen.
@FirmLearning4 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment, can see where you are coming from. Fully agree that in most roles one can be successful with different personality types. Though I would argue that the behavior I talked about in the video does not have to do with being an extrovert / introvert. Lots of introverts have self-confidence and good body posture. Also, in many roles one needs to talk with external clients, suppliers, partners and these people will for sure judge you for how you say something. As an entrepreneur it is your responsibility for the sake of your company and all your other employees to make sure that new hires will represent you well. Just my thoughts :) Best, Heinrich

I work in the tech sector and I would disagree with "mistake number 1". Yes you should do basic research, but in my industry it's more the company applies for getting the person then the other way around... Try get a full stack .Net / Web Development guy / project led who speaks German fluently, 10 years + and is available on short notice.... Then you will see what I mean... However generally speaking I agree with all points. In my opinion it comes down to one word: respect to your future colleagues.
