Insane Prot Warrior Revenge Build in Wrath of the Lich King

Revenge is insane in wrath, but this arms talent makes it even more absurd. 3K crit revenges going off on two targets at once, infinite rage, and insane tankiness is possible with this setup.

edit: before someone replies without reading my comment: I'M SAYING TO STOPATTACK ONLY DURING THE VERY SHORT DURATION OF SWEEPING STRIKES, NOT all the time... If you wanna tryhard this to the extreme and gain potentially ~2000-3000 extra damage during Sweeping Strikes, then use this macro for when you've popped it. /stopattack /use Revenge It just stops your auto attack from going off so you don't waste a Sweeping Strikes stack on a 400-800 damage auto swing, and instead get all 5 stacks to copy your Improved Revenge damage. Very min-maxy, but also very effective. Numbers don't lie.

Something I noticed from your set, I highly HIGHLY recommend wearing x2 Warbringer. The 200 damage shield on parry is unbelievably good especially for chipping damage such as dots, arcane explosion, bleeds, etc. From what I've seen the chest and helm are likely the best suited pieces. It sucks to drop faceplate but the upside is well worth it. Remember that Dodge and Parry are checked first before blocking, so your high block chance isn't impacting your ability to parry attacks frequently. Alternatively you can drop hands for Warbringer and it complements by increasing your parry chance. I've been using the 2 set for instances like scholomance, LBRS, etc and it's outrageously strong.

Thanks for the video, I do have a question though. No video really covers what dungeon route you're suposed to take dungeon wise as a warrior when UK isn't viable anymore. Revenge is roughly 31% of attack power + some base damage. That's why it is so strong on 2 targets! Or hell, even just one. For absolute mass AoE, damage blocking, 12% AP thunderclaps, and 75% AP shockwave will still be the best option. Especially with the high burst threat of a 75% AP shockwave + 4 second stun to match.

i get that 1 sec cd on a chonky revenge is pretty busted but how well is deep prot + armored to the teeth and cruelty. just baseline you'd get 20% more dmg from one hand spec and imp def stance along with more reflect dmg 2% extra str and expr along with 9% more stam, you get enrage effect that allows you to heal yourself for 30% hp and ofc shockwave, feel liek you could do bigger pulls and deal comparable damage and better mitigatin but to more enemies than just 2/3 targets

Strength gives a lot block value in wrath. Items can also directly have block value. Instead of a Utgarde keep, you should do Botanica at 70. It is more XP and easier. I would just try and get as much avoidance as possible to get more regular revenge procs while leveling.

What about the 4 set bonus from the Warbringer tank set? 10% damage increase to your next ability used (probably going to be revenge). Would this be worth the loss of stats the higher rated gear provides?

Neither have a ton of avoidance, can go with either. I would go with the axe. You might find something like rising tide can be better because of the slower speed for more efficient cleave.

Going that deep in arms isn’t worth it because there are too many dead talents that late in the tree. You would lose out on important prot defensive talents, while not even gaining much damage, because you lose out on thunderclap and cleave damage.

You don’t need to be capped, make sure to use shield block off CD. If you are doing it solo, it really helps to hit cap, and its not hard, check the budget set.

Been playing this build on pservers for around 6 years now :DDDD. I just prefer to not take the charge talent in arms, but instead gain 2 points of the Enrage u get in PRot tree. in Fury i only get 2 points into Armed to the Teeth for the armor scaling. Best weapon is also Axe since the revenge will scale with crit the most. So in ICC with a 30% buff in BiS gear. i do avg 9-11k dps on single target. ANd while tanking BPC councile is am doing around 18-19k dps..... as full tank btw with just DBW trinket..... Really strong build. Some people would say why play this you will get rekt from bosses cuz u are not as tanky as prot. The differenece in those 2 specs is 3% Less Stamina 2% less STR and 2 EXP less and you loose the critical Block. Which in my opinion is nglegtable. ANyways i have tanked LK25HC successfully many times. I also tanked Halion 25HC inside aswell as outside. ANd ouside i was tanking Main boss+ the big add. SO whoever says this build will get rekt. i can assure you it'S not :) Edit: I just saw u're only lvl 70. I also have made a lvl 70 warrior tank for the exp locked raids. And it'S also insane.

The build is strong up to 80. Utgarde keep is the best dungeon because there’s a lot of Melee damage and not much magic. The other dungeons I have tested you cannot solo, But you still do a ton of damage in a group.

Shield block value is the main thing you would swap out. High avoidance build will lead to more overall revenges because you will always have a proc. More damage gear will cause each revenge to hit harder, but you might not have revenge up all the time outside of shield block. I would recommend removing a lot of shield block value and trying to find a good balance for how large you are pulling.

Thanks alot for the reply! :) I sadly dont have much gear. With my current setup I could get 70-75% avoidance, wearing s4 Head/Chest. Could swap those out for Warbringer gear and get to 80-85% avoidance, but guess its not worth it since I will bring a shaman anyway. Really looking forward to trying it out :)

I mean I'm running deep prot, and you don't need to go arms. Seriously, you go deep arms and go block damage reflection. it will make up more dps then the spammable revenge. plus it means you can pull unlimited mobs that cant hit you, and your damage will just go up.... Solo\d garr (MC) in prepatch in 6 min, solo'd a couple kara mobs..... This build you have will start to fall off because your shield block value is going to get lacking and you wont be able to fully block attacks...

If you are solo you have to be careful of the stun guys and pull smaller. Your damage is from revenge anyway, so as long as you are hitting 2 targets it’s still efficient, no need to pull big.

Warrior tanks will be the best 5 man dungeon tanks while leveling due to their initial damage output. They scale very poorly once at level 80 and their lacking becomes very apparent compared to paladin tanks once starting harder raid content.

The most annoying thing about this build is that I played it in original WotLK and was constantly shit on for not playing deep prot in heroic 5mans. I was even removed from a raid group for doing this and not speccing Fury before dual spec was released so I could flex role easily. You don't even lose much in the Arms tree aside Bladestorm and 10% damage (which admittedly is a lot for pure DPS) to trade for the ability to off tank everything as well as DPS. Dual spec killed this - and it's why as a rule I tend to think dual spec was a bad design decision. BUT I understand why everyone likes it so it's not a hill I'll die on.

@@isjajo You do. And as a DPS spec it is about as viable as an Incite spec Arms Warrior. Just a bit less. But nobody is saying it's a great pure DPS spec. This spec is about raw flexibility. It does everything really well, just not really great. But you will absolutely out DPS most DPS players while tanking. I don't think there's a better off spec in the game than a Revenge spec Arms Warrior. Maybe you should buck up and tank something.

I would not call this spec flexible. You desperately need to get hit or you are useless and you want to hit revenge as much as possible which only hits 2 targets at a time, making it not even the optimal threat build for aoe. Deep prot is more flexible and overall better. This build just does more damage to especially smaller groups of enemies.

I'm.not saying it's a good main tank in a raid, although I've done it before, but it is absolutely better than deep Prot for 5man content, maybe 10man content, and still allows okay DPS while not actively tanking. If you can't hold threat with revenge and cleave spam plus Thunderclap on cooldown that's not a spec problem. It's more than capable of holding agro in AoE situations.

Deep prot has better aoe threat and is better for 5 and 10 mans with geared dps. High burst aoe classes will pull threat immediately if you don’t have shockwave. This build does more damage though, especially in smaller pulls.

Are you referring to issues at 80 warriors have on p servers that are also very overtuned? Blizz will not buff raids as much as p servers, so I dont think survivability will be as big of a deal as threat and damage, which they excel at.

With each level you will lose avoidance, and it becomes harder to maintain being immune to getting hit. You need really good gear to continue this strategy several levels.

Use macros = better tank Revenge is not on GCD for a reason - it can (and should) be added with a macro to your other abilities, so be used automatically when it procs. Add it to your HS, Sunder/Devastate. The warrior has plenty of other abilities to use intentionally, it is a waste of your attention to manually click on a proc ability, that happens every 5s... If you do it manually - you'll definitely miss many procs, which is a shame, because it costs only 5 rage...i.e you lose cheap threat.

@@Zatar Revenge and Overpower do not mess up other abilities (At least in TBC). On one button you can have: /cast [stance:2] Revenge; [stance:1] Overpower /cast Heroic Strike And this will use Revenge/OP when it procs or HS otherwise. I might be wrong about the GCD, but what I meant was that proc-abilities can be used on the same button along a regular ability, without disabling it. I actually used Revenge with Shield block mostly

Revenge is on the gcd, heroic strike and shield block are not. For example you cannot revenge and shield slam at the exact same time.

Imo if you will be running 5 man dungeons as prot, Shockwave is gonna be better than the revenge spec. Gives more aoe and control for the 5-6 mob packs where revenge just isn't cutting it.

Shockwave doesn't do anywhere near the damage this revenge build does, it will give you more control for sure but the revenge build will do 2x - 2.5x more dps. I've tested this on pservers and i still prefer the shockwave spec if its a group of juicers but if its a pug id come as the revenge spec cuz its easier to carry the group that way.
