1 Unwieldy + 1 loading + 3 sapping - 220 rp = 180 rp. Now we have 40 rp left. With 8 range, we have another 40 meters of close range and 80 meters of far range. Then add shipwrecker so we can destroy cities.

alternatively you can do this: 25 stacks of slam, 4 stacks of range, Ship wrecker, and to top it all off: Booming now you are launching shockwaves of damage. Here is the build: Mythic Slow Weapon: Slam x 25 Range x 4 Booming Ship Wrecker Inordinate Unwieldy Loaded x 5 Loading x6 Elaborate.

So fun observation. Looking at the talent tree's, you have the options to reduce the number of turn actions to 1 minimum provided you pay enough stamina (Terminally driven) and attack ALL creatures within range of your melee weapon (Blitzer). If you have an abundance of stamina, increasable speed, and a weapon with crazy reach and damage, you could peaty much go full Dynasty warriors and mow down a small army of monsters in a few turns😅 How optimal would such a build be, given the rules of the game? Also what's the maximum possible range we can make a melee weapon?

It would be 7 meters! Actually even moreso; range is calculated as the gap between you and your enemy, so technically 9 if you count your enemy's square too You can go pretty far with that 👀 It would be a LOT of stamina for sure, but tack on Conquerer (specialist talent that gives you 9 turn actions) and you have a human propeller for sure

@@oridont Thanks so much for the clarification. Anf yes, I figured it would take a crazy amount of stamina (which is why I mentioned 2-3 turns). Alternatively, you could pic the ranged version of Blitzer (Volley I think) and become a human gatling gun (or some super ninja headshiting a whole batalion with his super shuriken jutsu)

I tought that it might be funny to add a "negative rp range" to certain objects. Like, a poison potion could be malicious, a blade that shippons the wielders hp would be cursed, ... like, the "negative" contrapart of the positive ones.

You can! Consumables and artifacts have a habit of that from time to time; it's harder with the errata as of recently, but it should be possible and will be even easier in the future

I do think that you need to incentivize a broad damage range (ex: 1d8, 1d100) over a more narrow damage range with a higher average (ex: 2d4, 25d4). Otherwise, I feel as if you might as well remove the choice. Maybe add a flaw that reduces the rarity points if you use the largest possible die (ex: 1d8 for 8, 1d100 for 100).

Here's something I came up with: using divination to cheat at games of chance. No, I don't mean by knowing things you're not meant to. I mean rigging the game by the casting of the divination spell itself, using the game of chance you have at hand as part of the spell and then asking a question you already know the answer to to force the outcome. Would that be possible? Also using alteration to do direct damage without needing to summon an element, like the reverse of healing. Or opening a locked door by simply touching the handle as you already would to open an unlocked door. Also talking of not eating moth reminds me of a dnd campaign i watched where someone ate a moth that turned out to be a polymorphed monster that bit back.

Yes! I absolutely love the idea of rigged gambling; something like relying on a coin flip, but using magic to ask, "Is there gravity here?" So you know what the coin will say. There's a specialist talent called subtle spells that allows you to cast spells without any visual or verbal components Alteration direct damage is very strong, I never even thought to unlock a door with it. That's absolutely genius That moth story sounds terrifying 😳

@@oridont Also I came up with an in world reason for the chat box in Pia's redemption: They are wandering souls hanging around Evee in the aether because he can hear them for some reason. Possibly indicating he should learn some necromancy related magic. That moth story is from VLDL NPC D&D, somewhere around episode 90 or so.

So I took a bit of time to look into this crafting thing. I certainly don’t understand all of it but I think the following is the best I can come up with for a Fast weapon: We initially stack 22 Slam to get to our Maximum of 220 RP and get a Max damage of 80 or 10d8. After that reduce the RP by 70 with Unwieldy (-20 RP but you need two hands to wield), Armed (-20RP but you need Ammunition) and inordinate (-30RP but it takes 27 slots). After that stack another 7 Slam to raise the used RP back to 220 and the damage to a total of maximum 108 or 58d4 damage. I used a stone as ammunition for this weapon which you just place on top of the Stick and gets destroyed after you swing. I don’t know if you can just use it like that or breaks any rules. Does that work?

That looks right to me! The ammunition might have to be a little more specific than just any old stone, but that's a really fun idea! Maybe it has to be shaped a bit to be able to attach to the stick, making it more of a real item.

@@oridont I looked a bit more into it. Please tell me if I understood something wrong. Since the Stone counts as ammunition and therefore as an artifact, you could give the special rock some passive features (if I understood correctly active features need activation time) like Destructive witch grants the Stone d4 damage and is also stackable (I have no idea how many times you could stack them so I couldn’t figure out an exact number). With the features Sentiment, Flight and Remote you could maybe also reload by itself. With the help of expendables such as Necro dart for me SHP and DHP regeneration for 1 minute and Impact Explosive for 2d8 and 3d20 Energy damage you could also (if that is even possible) give some Special attributes to the special stone just pouring it over the stone. After that you can Imbue the Stone with Elemantal imbue for another d4 Energy,heat or Chill damage. Since it’s pretty late for me (1 am) I couldn’t figure out if I could do something with the spell system.

That's actually changed in errata, so there's no discounts in crafting, though you can get discounts through some talents Unless we're talking about different things, but component discounts should never affect rarity

Really like this sneek peak of this Stone Golem stat block. Hope you make a video explaining monster stats, and possibly how to craft own 😅. I am cureous about the power scaling in the game. Looking at the talent costs, it seams that chatacter levels can go in the tripple didgets (if not possibly beyond if you wish😅) Also I imagine that DR probably stands for Danger rating or something similar, showing the level of the monster. So, this might be a silly queetion, but what would be the DR of say... -Small animal (take your pick) -Comman pesent -Wolf -Orc -Bear (brown or grizzly if you have it) -Tiger or Lion -Dire wolf. -T-rex equivelent monster. -Comman giant of any size you have. Hopeing to get an more tangable idea of the power of the characters and monsters😅😅😅

Yes! There is now a customizable creature generator in the errata in the prototype, which you can get free, but I'll still answer those questions as best as I can! DR does stand for difficulty rating, you're absolutely right! And DR should be similar, 1 to 1, with level A small animal would be around roughly a DR 5, and a civilian would likely range from 10 to 20 I think most basic animals of Medium size would vary from 10 to 30, with the exception of huge animals like rhinos and elephants. T-rex, rough napkin math, I'd say DR 60 Giants are very powerful in Utopian lore; if we were talking about a Skyrim giant, probably something along a DR 70, and Utopian giant would be in the triple digits for sure at least And Utopia characters absolutely go into the triple digits! And as expansions come out, there'll be enough diverse content to reach quadruple digits without talent overlap :D

@@oridont I like that giants are a bit op, I mean when you are that big, you sorta need the strength just to move let alone fight, so it makes sense. Hoping for a more lore-y vid on stuff like that in the future. (saw that lore wasnt done and wasnt needed to do so take ur time, worldbuilding takes a while)

I thought I was missing something when I was going through the talents and magic rules. I keep thinking.. I need way to high a level to use this... this seams too basic a feature for such a level.... how ofter are you leveling up in this game... But no, I wasnt missing anything, its just that apparently in this universe things don't really get serious until you hit the triple digets😂😂😂😂 Honestly I'm really digging this. Levels aren't as much an arbitrary stage in your progression through a fixed level range where all the progression and monster's need to fit around like in Dnd inspired TTRPS's. They seem more like relative power levels, with Lv/Dr 10 being an above average human (or humanoid), and thing escalating from there as much as you want it (The sky is the limmit😉)

​@@hifty7779 That's very true. Unfortunately a lot of fantasy settings dont rally let giants be as big as some of us want them. Dnd giants for instance only range from 4-8 meters tall (with variants even smaller then that). It seams silly, but unfortunately a lot of TTRPG players (especially many old ones) seam somewhat resistant to high power/magic settings, prefearing to stick to the same medievalist Tolkein/Conan power scaling from ye olded days. That's why I'm really apreciate it when people like Oridont try to make high power/fantasy mechanics and settings work in a TTRPG😊

Feel I should point out, on the crafted gloves, you shouldn't convert the 2d4 into 1d8 because 2d4 does 2 to 8 damage, while 1d8 is just 1 to 8 damage. The 2d4 has a slightly higher average. Generally, rolling more smaller dice is better because the minimum will always be the number of dice.

Wait a sec 2d4 and 1d8 are not mathematically the same, their max damage might be. But with 2d4 you will roll more damage on average (and the min of 2d4 is 2 instead of 1)

Yep! That's one of the reasons I mentioned the better averages with 50d4; it's up to you which you want to do. While d4s will have better averages, you're virtually never get a max hit with them as well

You said Si-Fi can be run in this. Can you explain how? All your videos and even your PDF make it seem like it is really only fantasy. How will Space shpis, Sapce combat, psycic powers, ect. be handled.

@@metubr Yeah! Everything I've talked about that is fantasy themed is simply flavor; you can make a plasma saber, laser pistol, firearms, and things of that nature without problem. Vehicles haven't been given mechanics yet, so they're currently up to GM fiat, but they'll be coming around in the future Psychic powers are available in Spellcraft, so there's some flavor modifications necessary to have those without having magic, but it's mechnically the same

Just finished the video and I gotta say, it’s great like always also that final tier must be our god items, and also I really REALLY need to set aside some time to read the whole rule book because the more of it I see in your videos the more it piques my interest, also I’ve tried to ask this a couple times but I don’t think you’ve seen (or I didn’t see your response and if that’s the case I apologize) but if I ordered a signed copy on the kickstarter at what point in the process do I give you my mailing address? ​@Noah-td1tj You can absolutely do custom weapon features! Balance is always a tough question, and in all honesty, I think it's per table. What you want to do with it is up to what your table considers most powerful and least powerful Be upfront and honest with your GM and test things out fs

Dude i really appreciate the effort and i know i've shit on this game before but like... This is impossible for me to ever imagine playing. Imagine the guy who really does bring 50d4 to the table. Just the possibility should make you shiver. Everything i've seen of this game makes it seem like a super fun thing to make a character for but then a fucking nightmare to play. Systems like this sound awesome in the writing room but imagine the vast gap between the person who anylyze these rules for months until they come up with the best weapon possible and the person who's just here to play a game with friends. You should learn to code, i know not everything can translate but your ideas here would work so much better with a computer there keeping track of everything. Ya know when the wizard is looking through the book to remember how fireball works? Boring, right? Now imagine combat ends and that same player is now digging through every option in the book to make a custom recipe for a custom item that casts a custom spell and taking out a napkin to add up to 60 different numbers together to determine rarity, cost, damage, etc. then imagine them stopping the game at least once per session to ask to forage so they can get a liiiittle closer to making that superweapon that'll probably end the campaign. There's nothing wrong with any individual descesion you've made in designing this game, but the confluence, the combination of so many little time-wasters and table-confusers compounds into this overly complex mess. It's to the point where these videos are going to be required reading for most players. I would suggest you do a stress test, give the game as it is now to someone who has not seen your videos, ask them to dm, do not clarify any rules to them besides saying "that's in the book", and get them to run somethihg like the lost mines of phandelver. Try to get through like an actual normal adventure. Crafting systems tend to make big detours and mean the goals of the players are fundamentally misalligned with both eachother and the story at hand. Sure you could say the best way to get materials is adventuring but now any adventure matters just as much as the world-destroying main threat so a smart player is just going to begin a monster genocide to build a superweapon that can kill a god.

Glad to hear from you, always! I do code actually, and I do have lots of projects and plans in the works beyond Utopia even, I appreciate that a ton! I do get where you're coming from, and I do see how complicated it can seem for sure. But Utopia's modularity is designed to pull those rules out if you'd like. They're separated in the book for the express purpose of pulling them out like Lego pieces; the balance is all the same if you never craft an item All of the core items, spells, creatures, and everything, all use the same crafting system, so they're still balanced the same, and you can run a whole campaign without ever using that system. But you can also, if you choose to, slightly modify a spell to your liking rather than crafting them all from scratch, and a GM can rule in and out to what fits the tables comfort. You can do the same stuff in DnD (peasant railcannon, anyone?). The reason it's not a problem is because a. You generally don't want to be 'that guy' and b. There's a DM to say no in case someone does try to go overboard to the point of ruining the campaign. It's not a competitive game where everyone is trying their hardest to win. TTRPGs are collaborative, and if one of the players at your table is being an idiot on purpose and trying to screw over the campaign then that's on them, not the game.

@@barry5 Peasant railgun is a weird quirk of how the rules are written (and also doesn't actually work), these weapon creation rules are just the normal rules of the game. if it's rude to play the game as it was designed, that's the game's fault, not the player. all ttrpgs are "fun with the right people", that's basically the nature of the medium but if a system makes it so "having fun" and "being powerful" are at odds, that's a major issue. also it's not about the power level, assuming the system is balanced, it's already a nightmare at the table. again, imagine someone trying to make one of these things at the table, especially someone not familiar with the rules, it would take up the whole session and get boring very quickly.

​@@oridont i feel mean for my very aggressive style cause ur always so nice in the comments, know i don't think anything bad about you, i just get very passionate about stuff like this. i like the idea that it's modular, that's a plus, knowing this can just get removed if you have a new player at the table or a slow reader who doesn't wanna do homework, and i didnt want to make it sound like i was just assuming it would be powerful no matter what. it seems extremely easy to break if you have even one thing with a power rating that's even slightly off but sure, i can imagine a world where it never causes issues. however, i think you need to standardize damage progression. having to choose between the mathematically best choice (50d4) and the choice that won't make your table kill you is not good. i'd look at maybe having die stages, so it starts at d4, then +1 die stage takes you to d6, d8, d10, d12, 2d8, d20, etc. i don't know if the math translates, or maybe you could take from 13th age and after some point it becomes a flat modifier of the average like 50d4 becomes 115+d20, i would just really not encourage actually rolling all those dice as a possibility. and maybe have a quick item creation method? ya know like where it helps you pick your options for you, possibly via random tables. it may seem redundant since the pre-existing weapons already fill that niche but again, imagine a new player who just really wants to make a weapon-smith character, and who wants to make a few decisions but would be overwhelmed by the whole list. it's the middleground, like how cyberpunk red has streetrats (pregens, your pre-made weapons), then edgerunners (array, roll-to make, what i'm suggesting should be included), then the complete package (full bottom up design like this). sure, modifying existing things is fun but there is an emotional difference between the gun you made and the gun you modified.

@aloeburn7825 I appreciate it the clarification, and passion is good, I don't mind a passionate debate 😁 I think it may come down to playstyle or semantics (though I reserve the right to be wrong), but when it comes to things like item crafting and spell crafting, in my experience of gameplay and others' playtests that I've seen, it doesn't bog down quite as much as it sounds because you generally know what you want, or you designed it during off time For instance, if you want a cool ice spell that freezes the ground and makes everybody slip in a 10 meter radius, you probably thought of that beforehand, not in the heat of battle; if you need a spell right now, generally what happens is people will take a spell like Firebolt and go "I need 10 more meters of range" and tack on 4 more stamina, and then you have your spell Items really can't be done on the fly since they take hours to make and so on. And I do see the balance with d4s, of course; the game was designed with d4s in mind, always, it's not designed assuming people will take the higher dice. The higher dice give a gamblers' edge; if you need to do 85 damage, 1d100 will admittedly have a much higher chance of doing so than 25d4, even if 25d4 will roll higher in general In my experience at the table, once somebody has played their character for a bit and invested themselves into a campaign, crafting and custom spells don't really take all that long, and it brings a lot of life to their character and experience when that item boosts their character's thematic meaning and purpose. There are definitely games where you can just have that item, and say what it does, and so on; Utopia is more in the realm of giving you mechanics for your customized items and integrating your theme into the mechanics I'm excited to hear your response.
