Today in the morning someone ate bulbul's nestling and eggs. Nest was made in plant kept in pot 🪴 Yesterday there were 5 eggs and 1 nestling but today morning when I saw I was traumatized as only 2 eggs were there..😭😢😭 The baby was about 5 days.. Heart Breaking 💔🥺

A red whiskered bulbul laid 3 eggs in my garden. They hatched and 2 chicks were taken away by a Shikra and one fledged the nest. I was amazed at how the parents forced the remaining chick to fledge soon to avoid another attack. The Shikra came back after the chick fledged. Thankfully, the chick left by then. I am hopeful that the fledgling would have become an adult now.

Nature is brutal. It is beautiful, majestic and serene at times, and equally as dark, frightening and cruel. The loudest and tallest chick gets food first but can also be eaten first. The more quiet and submissive risks not being fed as much but is less noticeable by predators. The hunter needs to eat as well, and finding a nest full of defenseless young makes for a perfect meal. I don't think the baby chick's were lazy, I think either they didn't have energy from a lack of food or were full. These could've been very inexperienced parents too. :(

The main reason I hunt crows is because crows decimate baby birds in the next. They find a nest and continue to come back until the nest is empty and then they find another nest and kill all the babies again.

i think crows are the best at protecting the nest. they gang up and drive away predators, and some crows are always near the nest while the others go looking for food. the crows near my apartment are nesting and they would not even let me near the balcony. 2 crows first approach & sit on the nearest branch and throw a hissy fit, and if i persist then other crows will show up.

I think it's really sad how the parent bird works very hard to take care of the babies only for them to get eaten by a predator. However I also think about how the predator may have its own babies at home that also need to be fed in order to survive. That's what I always say nature is the most cruel and beautiful thing.

As civilized as some people are, I couldn't imagine. African Elephants have a gestation period of about 22 months and there have been rare cases of predation. That's an animal with phenomenal memory so It can't be short of deviating to lose an offspring. Orcas as well, their babies stay with their mothers their entire lives.

The saddest thing is that they were eating by a cuckoo... Now cuckoos don't nurture their own eggs... They place them in other Bird's nests, even throw some of the eggs already in the nest not to be found out and go on to live their lives eating other baby birds ....
