In this video we will take a look at a situation that occurred on a TTC transit bus where the person who recorded the incident has proclaimed that the bus driver is insane. Let's take a look and i'll let you know if this particular driver is displaying traits of insanity or not. A few people on the bus did verbally gang up on the driver. What would i have done in this situation?? Watch to find out!

Bro, I'm an operator in Vancouver for 5 years. I can remember the first day of training what they told us; "We didn't hire you to drive a bus. We can teach anyone to drive a bus. You were hired you because we want people who can make quick decisions on their own in a stressful environment and be able to deescalate problems and handle problem passengers."

I remember this woman I would pick up every night would expect me to be at her NON-TIMEPOINT Bus Stop at exactly a specific time Apple Maps estimated I should be there based off me leaving the ACTUAL-TIMEPOINT 3 stops before her. She would yell at me that I was always late, tell other passengers how rude and disrespectful I am that I don’t care about the schedule, and did customer complaints on the regular about me. What she did not understand is that if she’s at a NON-TIMEPOINT, she must go off the schedule for the Timepoint BEFORE her stop. Those estimates on Google and Apple Maps mean nothing. In fact, I’m not considered late until I start running 5mins behind schedule. In which a lot of time I would be around 2-4mins late to her. What she also didn’t understand is that the schedule takes 2 hours from start to finish, and that she was getting on at more than an hour into my schedule. Soo for a whole hour, anything can happen. Medical Emergency, fight on the bus, someone blocking the isle for no reason, accident, etc. Soo yes, it was a handful of times I would arrive 20-30mins late, but once dispatch tells me to hold at a location.. I can’t do nothing about it. The funny part is that none of the other passengers ever agreed with her and even would support me in trying to explain to her what happened earlier in the schedule and why I was running late. Still she didn’t care. Even my job just told me to write what happened on the complaints but don’t worry about it. I repeatedly told her to get an Uber or Lyft if she can’t be patient. It got to a point where I did a report on her for Harassment, after that Idk if anybody talked to her.. but she show did leave me alone after that.😂

Been driving for 19 years in kcmo and I promise this makes sense. We are rude if we do or don’t speak. At a point we are just supposed to be robotic information handlers and punching bags for their personal enjoyment. Imagine driving your car in rush hour traffic but with 40 plus feet of vehicle and 30 plus passengers and trying to stay on time, get on and off the highway when cars don’t want to allow you to merge and so on. But yet we are wrong for defending ourselves.

As a passenger, I would definitely and obviously not engage an argument with the bus driver adjusting their equipment. In that case, it doesn't really matter for me how long the delay is and nor I'll get to the specific area/point in time. However, if I do listen to an argument (in which I rarely encounter with trains and buses), if it gets to the point where I feel uncomfortable and unsafe (especially when wearing earbuds since like I have mild-sensitivity to loud sounds most of the time) I would rather hop off and wait for the other to come by. If I were a bus driver, I have to keep my sanity on the low level, especially when dealing with Karens and entitled people, or just people having a bad day in general. If they bother me and/or the other passengers too much, I would probably call that angry passenger to leave and if they refused to do so, calling the cops is other option I'll go for.

The first years of my working life I spend as a cashier in a grocery store. Seems that bus drivers and cashiers (and police men, teachers,... members of the public services) are positions where you're prone to have people wanting to walk all over you. Accepting this makes life a lot easier. However, soon I realized what annoys these folks the most is, when you just smile back. In my home town I have witnessed tram drivers and bus drivers being attacted verbally for really no reason. What I do in that case is walking up to the driver and leaving them my phone number. I offer them to call me so I can speak up for them if they get into further trouble because of any accusations or they have to explain themselves. Usually I do this in a hidden way, but sometimes I do it in a very obvious way so that the aggressor takes notice. One driver acutally contacted me. Solidarity! That being said I always greet my drivers when I get on and wish them a pleasant day when I hop off.

I don't like it when bus drivers don't show respect for others but I much prefer Toronto's main public transport system, the TTC, than privatized transit that in too many cases is risky and dangerous for passengers. A video titled "Post-Soviet Transit: How Free Market Competition Can Ruin A City" (on the Railways of the World KZbin channel) is a reminder of just how many corners private companies that claim that their ways of running municipal transit systems is the way such private companies instead try to cut.

I finished the vid, the TTC here in Toronto actually operates one of the best transit systems in North America. Buses run every 10 minutes or more on many routes, and even in non-peak times it often only goes down to 15 mins on routes far from downtown. That's better service than NYC offers if its not the subway, if you're not in the central core of NY many of its buses run every 30 mins like many other American cities. In Toronto you'll be on the city edge and its frequent service. Toronto passengers are spoiled to the point of getting upset at small 5 minute delays, and it is born out in this video. I literally just had a bus ride earlier today where there was a 5 min shift change, and while no one shouted, there was a bit of huffing and puffing as if passengers know better. I think more of these people should be forced to drive a bus for a day to understand the error of their ways. Or they could go to an American city like Memphis and see where service is every 45 mins and the bus stops running at 6pm, possibly no service at all on weekends. Yet we sit here with buses every 10 mins on a Sunday until 1am in Toronto. LOLOLOL They don't realize they have nothing to complain about. That's Toronto in a nutshell.

Wow, that’s fantastic scheduling. I was just thinking how lucky and spoiled they must be, then read where you said it yourself. Lol The audacity of these people to complain over so insignificant. It’s not often when people complain, but I’ll gladly remind them that if they don’t like it, they can always exit the bus and wait for the next one. That usually shuts them up.

@@LuckyCharms777 its been 8 months but the ttc has possibly the worst schedule enforcement in the world. They just put a ton of buses on a route and say just drive, not caring about schedules. the 5-minute bus next to me is more like 3 every 15.
@LuckyCharms777
@LuckyCharms777 Жыл бұрын
@@Humulator I’m not sure what you mean by 3 every 15. However when you have very frequent service, it’s not uncommon for buses on the same route to stack up due to an inevitable delay so you might have one bus come late and the next bus come just a few minutes later, but on time.
@Humulator
@Humulator Жыл бұрын
@@LuckyCharms777 Yes, but the thing is, the less frequent routes, the 30 minute ones, run like every hour 2 buses come. The nights buses come from the day ones and again, its really bad. I think the ttc is so used to ultra frequent service, that the few routes that don't, have so bad enforcement. I did exclude that info I guess from the other comment

I learn a lot from you and your fellow bus drivers who comment here. I'm definitely going to do what I have to do as described by the company I work for and ignore a passenger who is being unreasonable. I've got a question: I've been watching a show where fraudsters try to claim they were hurt on a bus or that a bus drove into them when in fact, they were negligent as a car driver or in crossing the road. I wanted to know if you had any experiences with that and what that was like. If you can't speak on it or don't want to, I understand. Thanks for another great video!
@BusDriverLife
@BusDriverLife 3 жыл бұрын
I have had someone say that my mirror hit them but most buses have so many cameras on the inside and outside of them that it’s going to be difficult for someone to make a false claim like that. Also any cameras in the area near the alleged incident can potentially be checked as well. Lots of people get caught in lies thanks to all of the additional cameras now.

Yeah, the back and forth just created a tug of war where one person had to give up ground and the original person who started bitching about it didn't even have the proper vocabulary for what she was trying to say. She called the bus driver conceited which made me think she had different issues with that particular driver and this just presented an opportunity to give someone she had beef with a hard time in front of an audience. Just leave it alone, let people feel how they're gonna feel, and leave it loose so they can let go of it easier once the delay is over.

I agree that the TTC Operator has handled herself well however I wouldn't go back and forth with her. Once they call you out, they refuse to listen to reason. It's not worth it. We do the same thing too but call it making relief or getting relieved. I never had a passenger complain about that but I can tell when they're a little annoyed by it. If I explain something and they get aggressive, I leave it be.

Sometimes I change over with my little Vietnamese mate , takes forever to adjust the seat and mirrors because he's so short and if anyone ever complains I take longer then get out and check the bus as well . Drove 5 hours without a break one day and got out lit up a cigarette to run to the toilets. This horrible woman says your late and you're smoking, I said because your such a horrible person I'm going to the toilet now. Walked as slow as possible and had 2 cigarettes . She complained, company said when you have to go to the toilet you have to go and it's not your buisness if drivers smoke. These people are trash that think they can treat people like crap, good thing is they're always too busy watching you that they always forget to press the stop button and miss their stop.

Keegan!! Oh my gosh bro!! As a regular bus passenger that I am I totally get what the driver was doing. I don’t know man. I see things differently than my fellow bus passengers and I tell my bus drivers this all the time in pierce tranzit. Pierce tranzit’s bus driver. Have to do that sometimes. They have to make a driver change in the middle of a rout. I was on the bus when that happened one time and I just sat back and enjoyed the little time I had on the bus as they were figuring things out. Their was one video that I saw about buses. And it is so true man. What we say as passengers really has know meaning. It doesn’t matter what we say. It is up to the bus driver cause you all are their to do your job and keep us safe. I mean with me. What would happen if I go and do my job as a working pianist and I am setting things up and people are telling me how to do my job. I know I would hate that well we have to kick back and chill. I told one bus driver in pierce tranzit. “Bus time for me is chill time.’ I wish all of my fellow bus passengers would understand that. And I tell my bus drivers. This is not the firs time I rode a bus and this is not the last time I will ride the bus either. I see things so much differently than a regular bus passenger would. I get the driver’s point of view. And people actually even here in pierce county say the same thing about the bus drivers. If the bus driver is chatty that means they are awesome. If the bus driver is quiet then for some reason people think that they are so mean and rude. This is totally wrong. That is what bus drivers are. Each and everyone of them have a totally differently personality. This doesn’t mean that they are rude. I wish passengers would get this. I get to know the bus driver and how they are by approaching the bus and getting to see if they are talkative or not. Some of them are so talkative it is not funny. And then some of them are just so quiet. But they are all so direct and take their authority like they should. But people for some reason think just cause the bus driver doesn’t talk to you they are rude which is totally bogus. The things that people think. Maybe the bus driver just wants to make sure that they are keeping you safe and conversations on the bus are minimum. So many times going to work I have had quiet bus drivers. They always will greet you though getting on the bus and they are looking out for you. but that doesn’t at all mean that they are thinking about yelling at me or being rude. Hahahaha. People have these weird ideas and I wish it would stop. Then,,, i have had bus drivers who are very talkative and we do get in conversations and next thing you know the trip is over. So it really depends on what bus you are riding and what the driver’s personality is going to bee. That is just like me. I have 2 personalities actually. When i am not working and playing the piano when i am not on the bench I can bee funnier than heck. But when i am at the piano I actually do get very serious. And straight lipped. Where other pianists like it talk I am one that is talkative of course but when i am at work I need to focus on my job and do it well. So even with us in the piano world you have all different types of pianists. me though I am actually super serious and take my job very seriously. And thankfully i have had time to get to work early so I can relax with people and talk with them cause when work starts,,,,, that is it. I want to do my job to its fullest and make sure that the music is top for everyone so i have to stay focus and pay attention to every detail.
