I was sitting inside a VDL ambassador 200 and it behaved exactly the same it also hit the rev limiter a few times

The rev limiter does not work in case of redline Also due to the bad software of the Voith that controls everything to the insane The Ambassador was notorious for having these defects that were not really addressed With stopgap solutions that only worked for a short time and then all hell broke loose again In some cases the rpm was even up to 3500 rpm

​@@le0nardus599 Really 3 500? :O isn't there RPM limiter on the engine, set to about 2 400 or 2 500? (I don't know what engine we are talking about, but for example DAF and Iveco engines in my city are limited to 2 400 for DAF and 2 500 for Iveco) Sounds a bit too much, most bus engines have maximal allowed RPMs to 2 800, Iveco Tector without limiter can go up to 3 000 but it is not healthy for the engine

Even over redline About 3500 rpm Redline is on 2800 rpm Motormanagement and gearbox management is working agains each other Those Cummins engines are not perfforming well with Voith Diwa transmission Better is the ZF ecomat or even ecolife Due to this redline the motor could run away and the bus can not be stopped And when it occurs You make the fastes speed with this bus ever recorded ( about 140 km/uur ) before the motor will explode and the bus is catching fire Nobody will survive this It is almost happened in Holland Luckely the driver got the drive in free and stopped the bus witch already has a speed of 135 km/hour After stopped this vehicle the motor keeps houwling and after a while stops and the bus was burning like a can of petrol Thick grey smoke was visible in the neighbourhood After that accident the most buses are modified so the engine could not ever run away if rpm's getting too high ( inlet clogged with a valve so the engine stops )

@@jetstream454 `Tell that to those involved in 2x fires in a Connexxion Ambassador In both cases the engine could not be turned off That sounds like ‘ runaway ’ The revs were at least 2x as high because in 1 case the bus was travelling 135 km/h before the driver got the gearbox in neutral with some luck Then he could only brake to a standstill and the whole rear end was already a fireball with the engine still running at very high revs Eventually the whole thing crashed because the cooling was gone and everything burned out completely No injuries, but a lot of frightened passengers Calculate how many revs the engine made At 2800 rpm the bus runs exactly 80 km/h At 120 km/h the engine revs another 1400 rpm more so 4400 rpm and at 135 km/h I estimate up to 4800 rpm The whole thing didn't explode That surprises me But a racket and screeching noises It was like a screaming kitchen maid I will never again get into such a bus with the well-known Cummins engine and Voith Diwa 4-speed automatic transmission That combination is in fact unsound ( both hardware and software wise )

@@le0nardus599 Runaways are caused by a mechanical failure, either in the turbo feeding oil down the intake or an injector pump/fuel system problem

@@jetstream454 What causes the runaway in these buses is the software that affects the injection system Just like with the Detroit trucks There it was a mechanical defect Here it is a software problem that keeps the fuel injector fully open because the gearbox does weird things like unnecessary downshifting or holding gears In the older buses there are leaks from gaskets that feed fuel back from the crankcase Then it does run on its own oil And that is also due to the faulty software that causes wear and tear on parts like pistons and cylinder walls The oil can get past that and causes a very good combustion which eventually causes everything to catch fire The causes are thus the bad software that was used and which people stubbornly refuse to change at Voith So never put a Voith in combination with a much too light Cummins engine

There's not really an engine noise but I know what you mean - the sqeak: the turbo, the strange and varied whining: the gearbox and the great noise when slowing down: the axle. Also, have you ever heard a 2005 era Dennis Trident with CUMMINS ISC engine and Voith Gearbox, squeaky turbo and retarder as well as screaming axles ? That is great sound
