Who wants 10 USB-C ports in a desktop PC? 😂 I hate using USB headers. They act like USB extenders. It's fine for most devices that don't need cables, but I've had issues with keyboards/mice/DACs/microphones when connecting them to anything other than native ports on the back panel. Besides, I don't want to fill up the expansion ports with USB headers.

@@THU31 I agree that its too much now.. but people ARE moving to USB-C slowly. My next wireless mouse will have to be one with a USB-C charging cable+receiver. Same with my wireless keyboard. We already see Controllers like the Dualsense using it. Its time motherboard manufacturers started pushing for it more so we can finally get rid of clunky old USB-A.
@stillmoms

USB-C is a worse ecosystem but a way better connector; it’d be nice if the proliferation of higher speed ports and more of them leads to USB-A finally bowing out. It’s been nearly 30 years since it debuted, it’s clunky and non-bidirectional, takes up more space no matter where it’s deployed…

2990 amps, approx 3500W at normal voltages. Assuming the chips can operate at around 30% without any type of cooling, that’s 1100W… with the max power consumption in the CPU range likely to be 230W… So actually you could cut it into a four and probably have no issue. Without heatsinks on the mosfets.

I really don’t understand manufacturers. First they massively underspend VRMs and got called out… now they massively overspec VRMs and get called out for silliness… I’m pretty sure 8 or 12 phase VRMs with current high spec 70 or 90A power stages are MORE than adequate. Why? Because I’ve seen setups with that kind of power handling on older HEDT stuff… so can we please get that? Not doubled 4 phase designs with crap components, not designs capable of pushing 1kW plus on mainstream boards, just something in between for normal people ty? And if we can still get post codes that’d be jam.

@@jojobetzler3732 Ya, they showed the new Taichi Aqua for Intel, but there wasn't an equivalent one on the wall for AMD. But not in a rush to upgrade. We don't know yet if the Zen4 parts will be able to benefit at all from the improvements in the new boards, so that's some testing that needs to happen before I seriously consider the issue anyway.

Looks like im not touching their boards for my next build. I absolutely hate that mobo manufacturers are pushing 7 segment debug readouts onto $400+ boards. They used to be common on ~$100 boards but now it's exclusively in a mid to premium tier even though it's a cheap add-on for them. It's genuinely infuriating that something so useful is being gated as a premium feature across the industry.

Those "lite" motherboards seem like a welcome step in the right direction. For too long have mobo prices been driven up by superficial fluff. Some people just want a strictly functional motherboard with little to no regard for aesthetics, before shoving it into a windowless case. Motherboards used to be like that.

sucks to see so few PCIe slots on ATX boards, compared to say their ASRock Z77 Extreme11 from years ago; especially when CPUs back then had even less lanes. I really don't mind M.2 slots in general but the PCIe slots are much more versatile generally (and with expansion boards you can add way more) in that same board region, especially when other boards show how you can add those standard M.2 NVMe slots in the PCH area and also near the RAM region or even on the rear of the board. With ASMedia or similar switches, you could have 5-to-7 slots (even if x4 that's fine) and still have multiple M.2 slots, and a bunch of I/O still.

What, 10 M.2 slots on that Taichi (03:05)? CPUs are rumored to have 20 PCIe 5.0 lanes, no? Do they support some kind of bifurcation that lets you "convert" PCIe 5.0 x2 to PCIe 4.0 x4 or how does that even work?
@MiG82au
@MiG82au 13 күн бұрын
The 4 SSD card only uses 4 CPU lanes and I haven't heard of consumer boards bifucating into x1s so the card must have a switch on it and cost hundreds.

My guess: new Intel CPUs use even more power, and they bought VRMs for the Intel boards and are reusing them for the AMD boards.

@@JMKarymidoNthe power stages on these boards can support > 3000 watts! That’s about 2x what the highest end PSU can support, and about 1/10 of what an AIO CPU cooler can support. This is beyond overkill and well into stupid territory. Like putting a rocket propulsion on a shopping cart to get through the grocery store quicker.

@@WaterZer0 The new Intel CPUs are supposedly a lot more power efficient as they are heavily redesigned (and on a new node). I wouldn't count on them beating AMD until I see evidence, but things seem to be looking up compared to the last few generations. Several thousand watts is surely extreme overkill regardless though.

I remember seeing board partners put overly-beefy VRM setups on x470 motherboards. Some x470 boards could run the 2700x with the heatsinks removed, and the VRM's still wouldn't get too hot. I'd say this means Zen 6 Ryzen 9 processors will have 24 to 32 cores.

I have an x670e taichi atm and man the new one looks a lot nicer(oddly the non e looks better) hate the io though, the current taichi only has 2 audio ports which makes surround sound speakers an extreme pain to try. Also the pcie slot is lower than a standard board again, it causes compatibility issues with certain gpu/support brackets and cases which is the main let down
