I like this scenario of the future far better than the TYPICAL “What’s going to happen to the Earth in 5 million years” videos, in which the Sun expands and destroys the solar system, and meanwhile Humanity died out long ago, etc. When I watch those videos, I usually post a comment about how Humanity WONT die, the Sun WONT destroy the solar system…because way before that point in time we would have developed planetary and stellar engineering skills that will allow us to move the planets around, or even to another star, refuel the Sun, or even move the Sun to another spot in the Milky Way.

It’s funny to ponder at the idea that many of us watching this video would very likely live to see most of this come into fruition. AGI is predicted to create medical nanotechnology by the year 2045. Which would hand us an extension of life by a few hundred years. However imagine the technology that would exist 100 years from today. That’ll add another 500 years. What all these "predictions" always fail to understand is that technology development is not sequential or linear. Most innovations stay dormant with minimal improvements for decades before a new tech trend emerges. Also, technology is driven by necessity, greed, or power. What's the use of a space elevator? The only change we will see by 2050 is faster pizza delivery and maybe decent VR so we can all watch the Super Bowl like we are in the stadium.

@@WayneCarr Exponential progress works over longer time frames like centuries, not shorter ones like 10 - 15 years, and for software like computer tech and stuff based on new discoveries like medical tech - not massive hardware projects like a space elevator. BlinkRazor is quite right; even if we already had all the tech needed today, it would take waaaay over ten years to complete an entire space elevator. Look how long it takes to build an ordinary skyscraper. Now consider that a space elevator of a *proper* design would be a minimum of *1000 times* taller and the kind we usually imagine would be *100,000 times* taller (stretching out to geostationary orbit or even past it. Rome wasn't built in a day; this thing wouldn't be be either; more like a century. And as it happens we *don't* have the proper tech as yet; and the lack of the needed meta-materials is only one of the obstacles involved. It may actually never be possible to build one at all.

You'd need a real-life Hari Seldon able to predict history on mere planetary scales to give you any kind of answer with even a remote chance of being correct. Hari Seldon is a character from Issac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy (now series) who predicts the collapse (technological as well as political) of the Galactic Empire he lives in and the barbaric state of affairs galaxy-wide that follows. He formulates a plan to restore galactic civilization after a 'mere' 1000 years instead of such a restoration taking many times longer. At a guess, I'd say there will be a hell of a lot of wars; with their increasing in intensity and frequency and spreading out far beyond Earth as time passes and we spread out into the solar system and hopefully the galaxy beyond.

This is all over the place. We create a Dyson Sphere, develop Warp Drive, and then we can create Dyson Sphere? Lots of continuity problems. Somehow, we discover the Unified Field Theory only after inter-universal travel exists. I can't imagine being able to develop Warp Drive without it. The near future developments are WAY too soon. Space elevator in ten years? Experts are saying it isn't even worth it. Besides, there might be some funky electrical problems with a structure that links the upper atmosphere to the ground. There is an extreamly high voltage differential between the upper atmosphere and the ground. As for Neural Link, we aren't any close to connecting electronics to the human brain than we were 30 years ago. Yeah, people could control a mouse with their mind 30 years ago. I'm not going to expect any advancements in that anytime soon.

I would prefer a sky spiderweb(based on the principle behind the tethered ring) over a space elavator. It is just much easier. Will all contemporary tech and materials. You use drones/airplanes/airships to bring the first base cables to the center point in the sky. Now yo conect between them to the point you have a spiderweb made of effectively *roads in the air.* At the peak of which you can launch one stage rockets. Add power production via solar and wind along it, and power storage, and it pays for itself. That power can be used to drive trains over it... Or electromagnetically launch crafts into space and catch them.

@ICreatedU127 күн бұрын
Probable. If panspermia is true, the aliens we could find today might already be "us" in some distant way. What blows my mind is more that whoever we send to space will not only become alien to us given enough time due to inescapable biological constraints, but we'll certainly also end up waging war against them at some point. Whoever we send to space WILL become an enemy given enough time. Mars, the moon, and every other world we durably colonize. What happened with the US and their movement for independence WILL happen to every colonized world the same way it has happened many times over on earth. If you add competition for scarce resources and an evolving biology and psychology dependent on planetary environment to this inevitable human drive for autonomy and sovereignty, it's pretty much a given that we'll wage bloody destructive wars against each other. Whoever we send will work for us at first, and then against us. Mankind will split into many kinds of man.

How would the future function without these resources, and why is the focus primarily on America? As one of the most advanced places on Earth, Japan already has fast transportation and other advanced technologies. Meanwhile, America seems more focused on political matters at the moment. Also, when Elon Musk dies, who will take his place? It's unlikely to be one of his sons, like X Æ A-12.
