I just came back from visiting Taiwan for two and and a half months after not having been there for almost 10 years. Seeing your video I already miss it! Taiwan is small, but has so many nooks and crannies that it is almost impossible to soak in everything in such short amount of time.

ActionKid, my fellow KZbin walker, I may be a walker of China and not Taiwan, but China and Taiwan share many cultural similarities and it is pleasing to my eyes to witness Taiwan, which is more wealthy and free than the mainland.

They dug a deep trench, in sections, from the ground to the track level. They then close the track level to form the subway tunnel. This underground mall situates between the ground and the tunnel. In fact, most of the subway system has this kind of sandwiched part. However, only a small portion of it is open to public. Most of the in-between areas under less popular places are not worthy for any kind of commercial use. 4:50 There are many other vertical openings in the subway system like this. They are mainly used as ventilation shafts and not open. 20:00 The place is scarily big and very confusing. There are many parallel underground streets in this area. I walk this underground mall nearly monthly, yet I still sometimes got lost and I have no one to blame but myself. 33:28 The glass floor tiles are build above a Qing-era Chinese historic site which was several hundred years old. The site was preserved in place. The Beimen Station (North Gate in Chinese language) is not the end of the underground mall. There's another section no more than 100 meters away at the Ximen Station (West Gate). ActionKid used to wait for people there. The two underground malls are in fact connected by a closed section that's not open to public. I don't know why it was not open. Maybe it's because there's a Qing historic site above it. Taipei City was the last Chinese walled city ever built. However, the city wall and one of the Gates were demolished by Japanese occupants in the early 1900s. There's another section of underground mall under the Zhongxiao East Road. However, the section between that mall and this mall was closed because of economic reasons. In fact, this mall was not profitable and quite miserable in the early 2000s. It was clean and nice. It was just not profitable and many stores were closed after a while. People now are much more used to visit these stores.

The mall was able to be built because that section used to be the track of Tamsui Line of TR built by Japanese, so there was enough space.

I used to walk between shaunglien and Taipei main station for 3 months to catch a train to Taipower building for language school, good times, miss Taipei Now it looks very busy, with elist book stores there seems to be tons of activity down there, mostly before was discount book shops for years and always little boutique clothing stores or nik nak shops that stay for only 6 months than close.
