6:22 At first sight I thought the SMERCH was named for the more well-known SMERSH (meaning, as any 007 fan would know, "Death to Spies!"). Different final letter in Russian, it seems... Oh and by the way, there was a Russian TV series set during WW2 with the super-tough title "SMERSH - No Order to Die Was Given". A line they really should have lifted to some Bond movie...😄

When the United States dropped the predecessor of the MOAB in Iraq in the first Gulf War there was a British SAS unit in the area. The blast created a mushroom cloud a mile high. The British radioed in to their command stating "My God! The Americans just nuked Iraq."

9:00 Tsar Bomba was the largest man-made explosion and was detonated at only 50% capacity at 50MT. It had the capability of 100MT... Even though the fireball was 6 miles wide, the blast was several hundred. Buildings 400-600 miles away still got windows blown out or were delivered structural problems from the shockwave, alone. The blast was visible over 650 miles away (curvature of Earth limited visibility) and the shockwave was detectable across the world. Everything within a 22-30 mile radius was completely destroyed, but that still leaves a larger radius to even be survivable. It's estimated that at about 65 miles away you'd still receive 3rd degree burns and deadly radiation... Still at only half capacity because half capacity gave the pilot a 50% survival rate due to the size and rate of the explosion vs the soeed of the aircraft. For scale: the Chelyabinsk meteor was an 18m object moving at 69,000km/h and delivered an estimated 400-500kt explosion 26-33x as powerful as Hiroshima... And Tsar Bomba was 100x that at half capacity....

don't forget "Si vis pacem, para bellum" so you need weapon even on a peace world (well except if life is extinct). Peace is not achieveable: everyone want something from other (or want to defend itself against other). You will always want to defend yourself against something else. If you want real peace: you will need 2 thing: -1 weapons that can destroy enouth -2 the balls to use against everyone that attack your country So if you attack : you and the opposition are wiped, so noone win, so you don't attack The biggest problem of the world is that threating someone most of the times is not follow by action or the threating is obviously bluff: you threat someone with nuclear weapon: it's bluff because if you do it, it's game over. It's the principle of Mutualy Assured Destruction and it's why there is no 3rd WW for now and USA and URSS never faced each other directly. They other solution is living in a "care bears" world when noone want to take anything from the other. And this is only on a country based war as seen in the 20th century, because if you look in the 21th even a computer and information are weapons. It's Sad but it is the reality. PS: Weapon doens't kill people: it's the one who use them / give the order to use them that kill people. A weapon is an asset like any other to maintain peace.

1:42 Are you sure that weapon was REALLY first developed in 1988? I remember seeing weapons that looked EXACTLY like that in the Godzilla films from the 1960s. And given the fact that the director of those films, Ishiro Honda, was in the military for a decade and tried to make his films as realistic as possible, that weapon must have been around since at least the 1950s. Unless, of course, those were different weapons being used in the films. If anyone knows more about this please let me know, I’m very curious to know whether that’s the same weapon or not. Also, if it IS the same weapon then, when was it REALLY invented? And if it ISN’T the same weapon then what weapon was used in the films?

Originally the tsar Bomba Audrey had a 100 megaton blast but they had to scale back so the plane could get out of the blast range with the bomb having a parachute and it wouldn't be a suicide mission for the test plane

Yes the cwis is fully autonomous as we found out in Halifax. one of the helicopters took off from the deck of a US war ship and our cwis engaged immediately. Good thing it wasn't loaded

Metal Storm MAX rate is 1.6m rounds per second. You can dial it down for more selective fire without using it like a glorified shot gun.

Just think if they got the Thermobaric Stuff to have much longer ranges...as powerful as they are ....20 or 50 going off at the same time... absolutely Devastating

I haven't looked it up, but I suspect on that Swedish weapon, where it says "56 CAL" at 13:30, that it should say "56mm", as 56 caliber is actually a smaller diameter than some handheld weapons such as .577 T-Rex, .600 Nitro, .700 Nitro, .58 black powder guns, etc.

I think they misstated what was intended. By 56 caliber they mean the barrel is 56x the length of the bore diameter
