John Hutchinson was convicted for taking the life of 4 year old Albert the child of the married couple he was lodging with in Narrow marsh Nottingham. His defense tried to claim insanity as it ran in his family and he had had problems since a horse accident.
Samuel Atherley took the lives of his girlfriend and their children in a jealous rage when they lived in Robertson’s yard, Arnold Nottingham.
His defense tried to use Jealousy as an insanity plea.
Thomas Greensmith took the lives of all of his children claiming he didn’t want them to be left destitute because the landlord of their home intended to evict them.
The doctors claimed he was insane at the time but the courts found him guilty. The sentence was changed to perpetual prison.
