The phenomenon you are talking about @ around 7:30 is aerodynamic drag and cavitation. Max prop tip speed is 450mph, past that the tip vortex and turbulence on the trailing edge become too much and detach the airflow from the prop surface and cause extreme drag. You can brute force past this, but you'll have insane amp draw, vibrations and reduced performance so its not worth trying.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the low-end torque is intense on this. Super locked in when making direction changes. That could be the unseen benefit here.

More power 💪😎 Was thinking those motors look like they belong on a 4 inch. Diatone makes some great stuff at reasonable prices , very happy with their stacks. Only concern I have is break an arm, it's a big deal . I'd rather have replaceable arms. It's got plenty of motor to lift the little bit of added weight. And it's already over the 250g arbitrary weight limit. Thanks for sharing, happy flying Albert 👍🤓

@AlbertKimTV
@AlbertKimTV 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the small prop can only do so much. Imagine even a bigger motor with that small prop, will it really go any faster? No... However, the advantage is on the low end of the throttle with a massive amount more torque to control the tiny prop. It was super locked in.

"Entry for SpeedyBee TX800 VTX". Yesterday I installed the Free version of the Free Rider Fpv simulator and I had a great time practicing with it. I thought it would be as easy like to fly a toy drone but after 10 seconds into the simulator if felt that it will suerly take a minimum of 3-5 months to get to a good flight (very hard). When I watch your videos before, I thought Flying FPV Quads would be easier than you say but know I know that it needs skills to fly them. But with good practice I will suerly fly beautifully as you. Man, you are a legend in Flying Quads and your videos suerly deserves a like 👍. Great work man and keep doing these reviews and giveaways 😛😀😀

I think the 1404 on the smart35 are just fine. Dont need more power than this - still feels capeable as a freestyler. this quad here just looks a bit to "american" while it's chinese ;) (a lot of horsepower, not very efficient - sorry 'merica ;)
@AlbertKimTV
@AlbertKimTV 3 жыл бұрын
I disagree. 1404 is just too small IMO on these 3.5 inch micros. I've said that since the Babyhawk II HD came out. Finally they are starting to listen to me, but Diatone has taken things to a serious extreme. 2203.5 is overkill. Way too much power for this little guy but I think a lot of people will love that kind of power at their disposal. Sometimes flying has to be more about the FUN factor than being optimal and efficient. For those guys, I'm glad something like this exists and I hope the other factories are watching and learning from this. Please bring out more fun stuff please!
@Rcschim
@Rcschim 3 жыл бұрын
@@AlbertKimTV Agreed! Fun should be number 1 prio! DaveC also said in a recent video he thinks the 1800 motors would be a good fit for this class. he also didnt like the Babyhawks performance too well... @@Rcschim Nothing wrong per se with the 3.5 micros with the 1404 motors. They are very capable fliers but just doesn't have as much of an excitement factor that the bigger motors will bring. That's all.

The disparity between sales data and voices online is very very present in the cycling world too. Everyone says they want 26" or 27.5" mountain bikes but whenever we make them they dont sell. That said theres a legality issue with the 250g thing that brings in a different aspect that Im not totally sure how to calculate for.
@gvngoheavy
@gvngoheavy 3 жыл бұрын
I dont know whats going to happen with regs and enforcement down the road just like pretty much everyone else, and I think the assumptions you make about that future really drives your current perspective. At the moment Im leaning more and more towards the regulating bodies relaxing and the whole thing becoming a non-issue. Mainly leaning that way because of the failures in the drone delivery services sector that were in the news the other week. From my perspective that has been the main driver behind increased scrutiny by the FAA. The big corps want the airspace for things like delivery drones, so they sold it as a safety concern. Its always about the money.
@AlbertKimTV
@AlbertKimTV 3 жыл бұрын
That legality aspect is quite ambiguous at best. Most people don't follow the rules anyway and just ignore the limit. It really is a SMALL number of people who make these demands and then force their preferences on other buyers who then decide not to buy it because it's not what they want. So the manufacturers keep asking why they don't sell. I tell them, that the weight limit makes the quads basically no fun and who wants to buy "boring"? I think this is why Diatone is going back to making fun machines. It's a good thing and those guys who want to obey 250g limits can still keep on building their quads like they always have.

I don't know if you follow Chris Rosser or not, maybe you just have really good instincts due to how long you have been testing quads and the sheer number you have probably flown by now.....but long story short he has done a lot of calculating and graphing and such and his data seems to indicate that the 1806 motor would be the best choice for 3.5 to 4 inch props. Your hunch seems to be right on the money
@AlbertKimTV
@AlbertKimTV 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't know who that is. I don't watch any other channels or follow other people. I purposefully avoid that so my opinions aren't polluted with the ideas from other people. Yes, I've flown thousands of different models and I'm able to make some basic judgements about what would work based on just experience without a lot of prior testing. But at the end of the day, it all comes down to a subjective choice. What one pilot likes may not be the same for another. Each set of specifications can yield different results for different pilots. This is why we need a much larger choice of parts and designs rather than a smaller number. I feel like there are certain forces at work where only a limited number of people want to be in control of what gets made and what doesn't and this is actually bad for FPV. We need more diversity, not less. Why is the standard 5-inch freestyle frame still the only one most people fly? All 5-inch frames are just clones of each other. Nothing special. Something new and different comes along and all the lemmings immediately try to kill it off before even trying it. What's up with that? Sorry for the rant...

@AlbertKimTV
@AlbertKimTV 3 жыл бұрын
2004 size might make it more efficient but without actually testing that size with this prop, it's just a guess. I know on cinewhoops with 2004 motors and 3-inch props, they have very good control on the low-end but not that much speed on the top end. However, I fly those with a lot more extra weight on board so the flying dynamics are really different.

Not all drones have to be the same. Variety is good and a lot of people like the super light designs and will still buy those even at the expense of durability because they have different priorities. I'm not sure why everyone thinks all quads have to be the same in FPV. It's like saying the only car any auto maker should produce is the Toyota Camry because that's the "best" and no one should be allowed to drive anything but the best (whatever that means).

@@AlbertKimTV that makes perfect sense. The only type off "durability test" i can come up with is just using a drone for a long time and seeing what breaks.
