Leshy's part of the end really got to me. You spend the entire beginning of the game seeing him as this scary villain, but by the end you realize that he just wanted to have fun playing this card game with you. Despite the antagonistic role he played at first, that last duel truly feels like sitting down to have one last game with an old friend.

I feel like leshy is just a guy with his cards. Nothing else. Leshy has (technically) tortured lots of people, by dying in a card game YOU die. I remember hearing a quote saying "youre true self appears when racing death" he just wanted to play cards in the end. He just never got bored of it Also leshy would be a AMAZING DM

I was genuinely happy when Mark went back and Leshy was still there. He went from crazy captor to someone I feel like, were it real life, I’d have a blast playing with (excluding the whole death thing). I was honestly surprised that I was sad durning his goodbye, I never expected the one who started out as a villain to be a character that has a bittersweet and relatively simple yet heartfelt goodbye. Edit: grammar

@@randomdude1350 Idk, maybe cuz its inspired by yugioh or something. Also, the reason Magicus didn't want to die is that a good game's art style is timeless. No matter how long it ages, the art style of a good game will be remembered for as long as the memory of the game itself is remembered. So it's possible that either: Magicus didn't want to die because it would mean to him that the game's art style is crap or because he didn't want people to forget about the game. (Maybe)

The thing with them all shaking your hand at the end is just general card-player etiquette. After a game, you shake hands. All of magnificus' lines indicate things you only realise afterwards. For example, from the ARG lore we could tell that PO3's plans actually succeeded, he died after his ascencion. "No matter. We don't need to keep score." At that moment i realized how much Leshy didn't give a hell about what happened. He legit just wanted to enjoy playing a card game. That's probably why Kaycee chose him, because he didn't have some twisted ultimate motive other than to play the game. Whereas P03 wanted to be the center of attention, Grimora wanted to burn it all down, and Magnificus was in a world of his own.

I think it's everyone's favorite, lol. Fans liked it so much that the developer made "Kaycee's Mod," a mini-expansion that turns the whole game into _just_ Leshy's game, and enriches it into a true roguelike deckbuilder -- unlockable cards, unlockable starter decks, unlockable items, unlockable challenges, and -- of course -- unlockable lore bits. Eventually there's going to be a special final boss if you manage to complete the topmost challenge level, too. It's still in Beta, but I've already had a lot of fun climbing up to challenge level 6 😄

Act 3 is definitely less fun than the first act, though it's kind of intentional in a way, showing that P03 just doesn't value good storytelling as much and he's basically just using the player to ensure he or at least one of his copies remains in charge. I mean act 3 is still fun, of course, especially when you get to make your own cards and you get to use the new elements like the mox gems, but nothing beats act 1. Sacrificing cards to put their sigils on your favorites, increasing a card's health or attack, etc. It's a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to the full release of Kaycee's mod.

@@spicetothemax7589 I know I'm late to this but binary represents a character, a computer converts the 1s and 0s and inserts it into a chart, there are more than one chart but one of the common table is the ASCII chart, which has 256 characters, so it can be difficult to memorise all those combinations, the ascii chart is limited to 8 bits, so 8 1s or 0s, there are other charts such as unicode which I believe goes up to 32 bits, not too sure, but basically to read binary you need a chart that translates it as it is almost impossible, unicode has over a 4 billion combinations of 1s and 0s, which is used for all characters of course we still have LOADS of characters left that we can fit in unicode, as we are using under somewhat 0.1% not too sure, might be even lower and we use unicode so that we can have special characters, all the languages and more, I hope this explanation helped you if not, I could try to make it clearer

Hey Mark, the developer is working on a mini-expansion called "Kaycee's Mod," which turns Leshy's tabletop version of Inscryption into a full-on, infinitely-playable roguelike deckbuilder -- with extra challenge levels, new unlockable cards, items, and starter decks, and -- of course -- bits of lore as rewards for beating those challenge levels. It's still in beta phase, so not all content is there yet; there are only 3 or 4 lore bits available, for example, from what I've seen. (EDIT: It's almost out of beta, and all the lore bits are in place!) Regardless, I've still had a blast playing it so far! Really great when you just wanna sink your teeth into the initial sacrifice-based gameplay and spooky atmosphere that Leshy brought to the... uh, the _literal_ table. Give it a look!

Each of the ending fights broke my heart. Grimora knew her time was coming but she thought there was enough time for a fun boss fight Leshy kept playing with you after the game became unplayable, simply because he knew it would be his last Magnificus was fighting for his life the only way he knew how and, even after struggling against you, still wanted to give you a proper goodbye And all the while the game gave you a sense of how the other scribes would have welcomed you to their tables as game masters You neither defeated nor lost to any of them, they just wanted to play using whatever time they had left.

the main things you missed, from what I remember are: - the final holo-pelt, of course - solving the goo mage puzzle (I think at least one of the other sigils is in the cuckoo clock in p03's room) - the key you received from the mycologists in act 2 can be used to access a "secret boss" in act 3, via a hidden arrow - accessing the secret crypt in grimora's lair in act 2 (the relic you got can be used as an offering to access it) there's no other ending to the game (though things maybe slightly different depending on what you have/haven't completed, I'm not sure). the one you got is the true ending though, despite missing a few things. ALSO, the dev has released an official mod for the game, called "kaycee's mod", that basically turns the first act of the game (leshy's cabin) into an actual infinite roguelike. it's currently in beta and new stuff is being added pretty consistently. it's very fun, and I think you'd enjoy it!

Also he definitely cared for his disciples, but how could he care enough when he sees the future, including his own fate? The fact that you find what quote profound and that my comment got so under your skin you replied with such an unnecessarily aggressive comment just tells me you're not very bright, therefore a waste of my time. If I'll argue with someone online, at least I want to argue with someone who is aware of the accusations they are making. @@andreinedi1563 you completely missed the point of my comment. Its not false to say taking away the point system or reward system of a game takes away certain incentive, which was the point of reflection mark was trying to make. Obviously a point system doesn't make or break a game, but in a card game or turn based game, if there's no reward system or way to win, it defeats the purpose of the game. But the statement was more symbolic than literal. And yes telling somewhat else how they should view and constitute a "masterpiece" is projection and rude. If you simply wanted to express your viewpoint or opinion that would be fine, but don't claim that others are wrong for theirs.

It had much the same feel as the ending of Digimon: Last Evolution Kizuna. It's one thing to know it's coming, and we all expect there just to be a few moments more, a chance to come to terms and let go...and then Leshy just vanishes within a moment. There, and then not. It's why the abrupt deaths are so much worse than the drawn out ones. Despite how you know him in the start, and how mad playing against him might have made you, in the end, all he wanted was to play a game with you. Like a friend. And that friend vanished into thin air, with nary a sound.

The thing is Leshy didn't even change. We just slowly come to realize that he's genuinely just playing a part to try to make you enjoy the game more. When you realize he knows he's a game character, killing the player goes from him being a psychopath to him keeping up the atmosphere as he makes you start a new run. The masks make more sense as you realize he's just being the best DM he can be, especially contrasted against PO3's style. Everything he does is to make the experience more immersive for the player. Honestly I think the moment PO3 started half-assing the storytelling is the moment a lot of players went "you know, I kinda preferred how Leshy did this... Oh." That being said, Leshy definitely still isn't, y'know, fully sane.

For anyone wondering, this game goes so much deeper, as there's a whole ARG that is currently being solved by the community (or it may already be solved at this point idk), which connects this game to other games Daniel Mullins has created such as Pony Island. Honestly to put this much thought and passion into the core game and then some, while still having a fun metagame for the more dedicated to dive into is just such an astronomical show of dedication that should be recognized. One of the only complaints I have heard from people playing the game for their first time is that they wish that there was more time to play each chapter and spend more time in each unique setting. And honestly in my eyes that's one of the best criticisms a game developer can get for their game, because it shows that although the game doesn't do too much apart from playing cards, it does it in a way that is so addicting that people just don't want to stop playing it. It's just as much of a praise to the developer as it is a criticism of the game, and it is so heartwarming to see Daniel and his team receive this much deserved praise. I really hope this game wins some sort of award this year. It deserves nothing less.

I feel both the sections with Grimora and Magnificus would’ve been a lot more powerful to us as players if we could have played their individual parts and gotten more time with them. Let Grimora do her fun chess games and roleplay with the skulls, wander around Magnificus’s tower and fight his pupils as he changes his head to theirs in each boss fight. Both of their sections have some rough elements that would need to be polishing up (especially gems, those things aren’t fun right now), but they have so much potential. I partially wonder if they were cut for budgetary/time constraint reasons since they already had elements fully working, and then reworked into the finale since they still had something… But despite all that… it feels fitting that we never got to fight them. The journey wasn’t about fighting all of the scrybes and experiencing their puzzles. Is was about the transcendence, the mystery of this game, the journey to get there. We never got to fight them… because the point was to end the game, not complete it.

Watching that livestream and it suddenly being actually gone a few seconds after they pressed the button was really the closest feeling those "meta - messing with your files and deletion" games evoke, in real life. In our actual world, where everything is copied and saved - something like this, just pulling the plug felt so different. Just imagine in like 20 years some of those episodes, less popular ones perhaps, might be considered "Lost Media" - but you KNOW there are some people out there who downloaded every episode and it is up to them to save the videos in a way that lasts. Interesting to think about.

I'll admit, I got a little emotional at the Leshy part. I think of all the Scrybes, he was the best. Yes, he did some terrible things, but for one, the others were worse. Magnificus controlled and tortured those who were loyal to him in excess for seemingly no reason. P03 was obsessed with the Great Transcendence and cared not for the lives of anyone. Grimora may seem to be decently kind, but I feel that it masks an inner desire for death and the withering of all things, with a sunnier demeanor brought by the knowledge that it is inevitable. Of them all, Leshy was the only one who both understood and appreciated what they were doing. He was the only one who knew that Inscryption was a game meant to be experienced, and the only one who tried to make that happen. With Leshy an immersive and at least enjoyable story was being told, beyond the ambitions and obsessions of the other. Magnificus wanted knowledge and dominance over the game. P03 wanted to go beyond it. Grimora wanted to destroy it. Leshy only desired to play it. That's why his leaving is the saddest to me. He worked hard to honor the idea of the game, and only wants to enjoy it a little longer. It makes me sentimental. When he speaks in that last section it's almost like you're able to speak to the game itself, interacting with it directly. As he tries to keep the game going as it all collapses he speaks to that inner desire we all have as players just to have fun, to tap into joy and imagination and be free of the tribulations of the world, and the sadness that pervades us when it gets taken away. Stripped of everything, all Leshy wanted was what we wanted: to lose oneself in a good game. It's poetic really.

@@black_velvet_4354 As I already explained, Grimora only *seems* to be the nicest in my view. What she really wants is for it all to die. She only has a good attitude because she knows that it cannot be avoided, which gives her a sense of calm about it. I acknowledge that Leshy was wrong to do what he did with the cards, I'm just observing that some of his other characteristics overcome that.

Leshy also mostly just put on an antagonistic persona to make his game interesting, he didn't actually kill anyone, he killed the player avatars which he knew weren't the actual player He DID turn the other Scrybes into cards, but that was to pacify them so they didn't take control P03 wanted to spread his influence and succeeded (uploaded the game to Steam) Magnificus wanted power and perfection Grimora wanted to end it all Leshy just wanted to provide a cool story and have fun

@@equip5565 I don't know. Leshy was tyrannical. He kept the other scribes imprisoned in cards and locked away. He tortured players throughout their runs, and he killed them if they lost. The nostalgic ending where he shows appreciation for the player puts him in a really good light, and it's a sad scene. But I don't think that means he's the lesser evil. ... What did Grimora ever do to anyone? Aside from deleting the data/their world in the end of course. That was a decision for the greater good though. Seemingly not a selfish action. Unless we count her ghouls as being tortured, she never did anything evil in the game, and her demeanor is the most friendly of them all.
