Nice clear explanation of inserts and sends. I have one question. You said that using a send was a good way of controlling a blend between the original signal and and altered signal on a buss with FX. How would that be different than just using an insert FX and simply controlling the dry/wet balance of the FX?

Hey Mike: Two things in Cakewalk I've NEVER understood are a). the difference between Insert Effects and Process Effects. I can't work out when or why you'd use one over the other. and b). how to work Take Lanes... When, after you've recorded several takes in the Comping Mode, you've got a stack of several takes on your MIDI VSTi instrument. I can never make them behave as I imagine they should. Half the time I'll have one bit I like on one take, but then another usable bit on another take. I don't know how to splice or divvy them up or whatever to get a final track composed of the best bits. Have you already done videos on these subjects? If not, that would be an enormous help to me. All the best.

Just my thoughts through. :) If I need to split sound to wet and dry but plug-in hasn't such option, I just can create 2 sends (dry and wet) with post fader turned off, turn main volume track all the way down; and then adjust 2 sends for example as 70/30%, then if needed, I can change proportion to 100/0% and so on. And the main reason for that, I guess, it makes easier to compensate the volume of both dry and wet.
@NoHealerJustPain3 жыл бұрын
At the second thought, I remembered that Cakewalk also has the effect chain feature but I don't know if it allow to split signal and insert parallel FX though. Don't you know?

Mike, Great video with very understandable explanations. Thank you for continuing to support Cakewalk users. I noticed each send you demonstrated had a different Send Level setting and each buss has a different input gain setting. Any reason? Will you cover the Insert Send Assistant in a later video? (Last selection when you click on the Send + sign)

Hi Jim, I hope you are well. Me and Cakewalk are not parting ways any time soon! Nice video! I'd love to see a tutorial on how to use FX chains in Cakewalk. Apparently, it's a feature that was added recently, it's not the same FX chains that you insert into busses, but it's listed it the plugins window.

Hi Mike. Thanks for the great explanation. Some questions, for the scenario of reverb you presented: 1 - if I want only reverb signal, not the clean one, what's the best way? Uncheck POST a decrease all output level in guitar track? 2 - What if I want first guitar with reverb with pan to the left, and second one to the right, using same reverb bus? Because pan is affected by the pan I use in reverb bus... How to change pan for each guitar track, using same bus?

Thank you for the great video!)😎👏☺️👍🤝😋 Do I understand correctly that in the case of a send, the MIX control in the plugin should be at 100%? Or is it not necessary? It's just that if it's not 100%, the sound level as a whole rises, like an instrument or voice is "duplicated"😂😅🤔

Hi Mike, nice video like always! Is there a way to have a send before the ProChannel? I wanted to do that in a particular song, having the dry signals of a few channels go to a reverb bus, and then keeping each channel with different effects. I couldn't find the way and in the end had to basically duplicate the tracks, which I didn't want to do just to have fewer tracks.
@JeanDoumpier13 жыл бұрын
Hello and well done to your work, it helps a lot. I have to ask you how can i exclude one specific track from FX which is applied to all the tracks of the same bus. I tried choosing ''By pass FX Rack'' but it doesn't do anything. It's connected with bus ONLY with output, i didn't use ''sends'' from this track at all, but despite that - when i apply FX to BUS, this track takes the effect too. Maybe you could help me, if you have been through that. Thanks in advance.

You gave the example of sending the sound of the guitar channel to the bus and then apply the amp sim on the bus. Do you think this is the best way to record electric guitars through amp sims? Do they sound fatter because they mantain the original input sound? I'm asking this because I'm having troubles with BIASFX2 as it sounds awesome on standalone but very thin and metallic on the VST. It bettered when I plugged a DI box in between, but it still doesn't sound the same as the standalone.

Mike, I have a Cakewalk question not related to this video. Is it possible, and if so how, to render an individual selected clip or track to audio? I watch Guy Michelmore's channel and when using Cubase he can quickly render suchlike to audio. I can't find anyway to do this in Cakewalk. My workaround is to Solo a track and then use the File Menu to Export Audio. That then creates an audio file of just the Soloed track. Is there a better faster way? I've been working on a piece with more than twenty tracks of instruments, including a lot of Kontakt instruments. This runs up against my RAM capacity. Rendering such a track to audio and then creating a new audio track with the recording and deleting the original instrument track solves that issue since audio plays from the hard drive. Also, FYI, at one point Cakewalk choked on opening the project. The PC cursor froze and it had to be hardware commanded to reboot. I found an online reference to such an issue and learned that, in such a situation, Once Cakewalk has opened, holding the Shift key while selecting the Project to be loaded pops up a dialog that allows skipping one or all plugins. Skipping the plugins then allowed the project to open. The tracks with their MIDI data still appear, they just don't have a plugin. Creating a new Instrument track with the desired plugin and then moving the MIDI data from the track missing the plugin then gets the situation back to square one. I've now learned to keep the number of Instrument tracks to a minimum by replacing them with an audio track as soon as practical.
@CreativeSauce3 жыл бұрын
Heya, thanks for watching. It sounds like you should freeze the track (it's the little snow like icon on the track). Freezing a virtual instrument converts it to audio ( with any fx applied), and removes the virtual instrument from memory. The great thing about it is, you can unfreeze at any time to do edits.

Does the signal still go down to the in/out then. So if I route the original track to the master and also the bus. Does that route 2 signals? Or should I also put the out on the main track to the bus aswell as the send. If that makes sense😂
@CreativeSauce3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Assuming that both the original channel, and the bus both have thier outputs set to the master, then yes, both the original and the bus goes to the master (routes 2 signals to the master).
@cianbrady15573 жыл бұрын
@@CreativeSauce would I be able to hear this in the export? Should I send the original track to somewhere else
@CreativeSauce3 жыл бұрын
Yes you would hear it in the export. To be honest, it depends what result you want. If you only want to hear the bus, then turn the post button off, and lower the fader for the original track all the way down (don't use mute, it will mute the signal to the send).
