Thanks for trying to help and encourage people with limited income to move to Dominican Republic. Actually if you choose to live in other parts of Dominican Republic your rent can considerably be reduced. I have lived in Cabrera(oceon side) and Constanza( beautiful mountains) for the past 20 years with combined rents of (4500pesos+ 3000 pesos=7500 pesos) or less than $150 U.S. for both and recently decided to no longer travel back and forth and now permanently live in Constanza paying only 3000pesos and soon moving to a very modern brand new 2 bedroom home that will rent for 7000 pesos monthly($130 U.S.). This lady is very realistic in her stimations and I thank her again. This is a beautiful country to live and I recommend highly specially if your intention is to help some of Dominican needy brothers and sisters.

Yes that is right! if you choose to stay in smaller towns outside of big cities and tourist areas you will be surprise of how much you can save.

In San Isidro, Juan bosh also (Santo Domingo Este not far from the military base and the airport (so no criminals there)) for a little bit more expensive you have a brand new apartment, for like 350-400 you have a brand new very good 2 bedrooms flat. This is where we were Staying during our month in the DR. Those appartment are in gated communities with kids park, hospital, restaurant ect. And in San Isidro you have the military airbase so there won't be no criminals there, super mercado Bravo with smart fit at walking distance, lot of plazza, supermercado Ole not far, lot of constructions This is where we plan on buying an apartment for our AirBnB

I know for me I like to have a safe neighborhood, air conditioning, and hot water. If I have those things I'm good. It doesn't matter if around expats or not.

It's no difference than a foreigner going to the US to rent an apartment. They have strict requirements in the States too. Everyone is protecting their investment. The only thing they require here that makes it difficult is to have a Dominican cosigner and really that's standard.

It's a touchy subject for me because I've seen 1st hand how this affects the locals.....incoming exapts pushing COL higher. I saw it in Costa Rica, parts of Mexico, Panama, and even El Salvador. I think ES and DR are very comparable. Both have huge stateside populations, and their diaspora has exploded with money. El Salvador is Los Angeles and D.C. money, DR is NY money. $200 is nothing to us. But the avg Dominican is lucky to earn, 20,00 pesos? Hardly enough to cover living expenses plus groceries plus transportation. Remittances its sustaining both those countries.

The only issue with this property is the location. It's in SD Norte, not too far from the Distrito Nacional, where most people work, but it's a nightmare to cross the bridge to go into the city every day. There's the Metro which takes you downtown, but if you have a car, or plan on using Uber be ready to be in traffic jams every day at all times.

you can find them in websites like corotos.com, mercadolibre.com.do, encuentra24.com or walking around the neighborhood that you want to stay and calling the numbers on the for rent signs.
