fantastic. Giving my power tools some TLC this week and I've been stuck pouring through drill repair videos- and this was a breath of fresh air- informative, funny, and to the point. Full marks!

Your instructions were exquisite. I'm a certified international instructor and I know instructions when I see/hear them. Well done, Laddy. I have a Rigid drill driver that experienced the exact problem you found with yours. I sent to Rigid for repair, first they said it couldn't be repaired. I then contacted their service center and pleaded my case. They said for $40.00 they would repair it, and since I'd already paid their normal shpg chg of $18.40 which they said they credit to the bill. I returned the drill to them (recording all my ser. no. etc). I received a drill in four days. It was not my drill, surprise surprise. It looked like a brand new drill................... Go figure.

I like the way you "animate" the disassembly and assembly processes.
@GumbootZone3 жыл бұрын
He didn't! He just sat it on the table, then all of a sudden it deconstructed itself then reassembled itself later. Makita's do that sometimes. Never turn your back on them!

As someone familiar with animation myself I have to applaud the effort which went into animating the screws of the housing coming in and out, and it was done twice. I know that this is "nerdy" thing that I am pointing out but details like that make this video so enjoyable.
@MariusHornberger6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it's always nice when people notice those really small details. And yes, the screws were really time-consuming to animate

THANK YOU!!! I've been trying to dismantle a really good keyed metal chuck from an old crappy drill. The left-threaded screw wouldn't come out, but I didn't try the next part at 2:19 which is clamping the chuck in a vise with a beefy hex wrench locked in it then nailing the hex wrench with a hammer. I used a dead blow. The left-threaded screw broke and the chuck screwed off the shaft without incident, then the head of the screw simply fell out. Now my next step is giving this old chuck new life! How? I'm mounting the chuck to a high torque gear-reduced motor, then the motor is going to be mounted as an end-of-arm tool to a KUKA KR350 industrial robot arm. Thank you for making this video! It helped a lot and I've dismantled three old chucks tonight already!

Superbly done! Thank you. Just had to completely take apart a makita as the chuck was totally seized on. No matter how much I whacked it with a hammer it would crack those threads. Finally managed to get a socket onto the other end of the threaded shaft and got it the old chuck off that way.

Thanks man for the effort you've put into making the video. It came out very entertaining. On top of that I appreciate the fact that you ware able to change the subject of this video when you realised that there is no bearing to change. Sometimes no everything goes as we would like, the important thing is to recognise it and make the most of it :) Thanks and I hope to see more of your endeavours soon.

That was super interesting. I thought it was something electronic engaging for that break on my mastercraft drill because it didn't always engage, but it's probably the same thing, but sometimes doesn't engage right away. Tempting to take those pins out, I much prefer to tighten the chuck by spinning the drill and holding it!
@denny99317 жыл бұрын
Comparing working with and without the stop (separate generations of a model), i like the variant with the stop better. While screwing, opening the trigger stops the motion (and all of the machines inertia) at the current depth instead of at a torque. So I would often over- or undershoot in softer materials without this stop, if the torque setting is a little bit off of the expectation. Not to mention that repeatedly waiting for the torque limiter to stop those last revs by hand is some additional stress to the wrist and it is almost impossible to just run half of a turn extra or just rotate the machine itself for tightening with hand torque. On the downside, stopping the planetary gear that hard will probably wear it out one day, although all commercially used ones i know still hold up after years of use. The video was however informative and shows how much effort went into it. I agree that more powertools always help. Mine is not broken yet, what should i do? :-)

Quick solution for the wear problem is a partial re-mould. Coat the inside of the plastic housing with epoxy resin to fill the voids causing wobble, and insert the shaft while it is setting up. Create undercuts in the plastic housing with a utility knife to provide a key, and use petroleum jelly as a release agent on the metal shaft. The reduced hole size produced will allow it to turn true and straight again under load. Nice informative video thanks.

I needed to check the layout of the clutch assembly and really enjoyed your Video. You did it really well and your format and storyline was brilliant. The desired result to fix the movement on the chuck was the expected result in the end as not everyone has a lathe to make a bush to shim the chuck as required to fix that movement. You were quite right in it not being a logical route to go further. 10/10. keep it up. PS enclosing the outtakes was also a really good idea.

Generally speaking bushings are designed to be of softer material than the shaft, unlike bearings. I bet you can get a chunk of brass and put it on your lathe and turn your own bushing or even better just measure the OD and the ID of the existing bushing to the closest mm and order a bushing online. You can get a graphite impregnated bushing for 1-2bux delivered and just press a new bushing in that drill. Its worth a shot. If the shaft has some wear, you can easily polish it as well. 400 grit sand paper on a Y shaped piece of wood will allow you to polish the shaft to mirror shine and remove any burrs. Love your channel btw.
