This was a very frustrating and stressful video which gave me anxiety. I'm going to go watch the news now to calm down.

The tiles are magnetized, there's a powerful solenoid on the (from this angle) closer player's point of view. They are collected at that point and are right-side up. The conveyor at the end (going leftward) keeps that orientation. The loader itself works by charging a tile on a platform, that lowers, charges a second one, and pushes the stack out, so that the outside belt grabs it. There are 4-loader versions that exist now, but this machine is a one-loader. It takes 62 seconds to shuffle.

Aotomo made this, the model is somewhat irrelevant, since most "models" are exterior finishes that differentiate them. You can probably score one off eBay, but do contact the seller directly for export conditions. There's a big thing, and since I am not able to give advice for various foreign destinations, it's something you will have to ask directly. Do not bid until you know you can clear it from customs. As for red fives, seriously? Riichi doesn't need red fives. Drop $3 on red paint.

I like it a lot. But be very certain that you can handle a few things: 1: it's heavy. 2: it comes from overseas meaning you have to bust it out of customs yourself. 3: You need a business number in order to permit export from China. Always ask about this with the Aotomo people in case this changes. Chances are it won't because they have to ship by sea, causing its own set of issues. Also, f*** customs brokers, you have to do everything yourself (logistics, customs, warehouse/haul).

So, how do you like your Aotomo table? I've been thinking of getting one, since it's impossible to get an Alban in the US.

@ cynicalidentificatio What model is it and what is it's price? You play with 17 tiles walls, so I guess you play Riichi, do the tiles sets come with red fives or did you color these yourself (or maybe you don't play with red fives)? I'd realy want to by an automated table to play riichi, but japanese table are very expensive. Seems like it can be a good cheaper alternative.

Thanks for the peek inside! but.. you didnt show how the table knows that the tiles are the correct way around, which is what baffles most people about how they actually work! Maybe you dont know yourself? ;) Its part of the reason why I stopped buying one, you need special tiles and they only come in those colours :(
