Any idea how much the cost was to create this home? There are so many shipping containers just sitting idle. Many that get delivered to this country just get dumped in the ocean. Would love to see more of these get used. With so much available land in Detroit, whole neighborhoods could be built with these.

A shipping container replaces framing costs and cladding costs. Everything else you have to do to build a house still costs a lot. I’m guessing one might save $15-20 a square foot by using shipping containers, and it’s still probably $150 a square foot at a minimum. In the Northeast where I live, it costs at least $200 a square foot to build. That house is over 2000 square feet, and probably cost $300,000-400,000 to build.

My research shows that Moulars are more cost-effective and are not limited to the 8-foot-wide building blocks. Six 40-foot containers would be about 1920 square feet; how do you get 2200 with all the entryway space taken up? Is the long hallway down the center, not a shipping container? You should have shown the roof or talked about installation.

I've seen a lot of shipping container homes. Other than the balcony area, this home was a little underwhelming. I didn't like how the home was sectioned off by the shipping containers. It had a shopping mall feel. It caused the kitchen to feel small and cramped, as well as the dining room. There's also a lot of wasted space on the main level due to this. The builder didn't do a good job with the overall design, imo.

Not sure what EMFS are, but the steel structure is going to interfere with WiFi and cell reception. Making both likely to use higher power to function.
