This week, we tour an amazing Marine Terrace HDB that has been transformed from the ground up from its old mismatched coloured condition to its current minimalist and expansive space. Homeowners Ming and Tiffany liked influences from a mix of the minimalist aesthetic from Japan and the wood themed Scandinavian look - and so decided to combine the two.
The home has parts inspired from Japanese architect, Tadao Ando, with a long seamless corridor. The living room is spacious and the first thing you'd notice is the black framed windows that provides a lovely picturesque view of the sea. At a size of 1,313 square feet, it's a good size (especially for HDB's nowadays), and you can see that from the open kitchen as well as cosy touches like the raised platform next to the dining area.

Love the long windows, the sea view as well as the city view. I always prefer to compartmentalize the house than to open it up and let people see everything the moment they step into the house.

amazing, didn't know HDB windows can be hacked like this. And both seaview and cityview are all gorgeous as they live in high floor. Removing the old style window grill can make the view worth a million dollar more!

When you have an awesome sunset and sea view, bring them inside your home. I hate window grills, sliding and casement windows. So this type of window design is fantastic to enjoy an interrupted view!

Hi there, many have commented on the windows in relation to our kids - human and feline alike, and we thought we should share certain things not obvious in the video to allay your concerns. 1. No, we certainly don’t leave our windows or grills wide open. In fact facing the sea, it’s too windy to do so and like most people, we usually close and even lock our windows. But it would not have made a very pretty video for Stacked Homes and hence they were all wide open when you watch it. 2. But yes, we purposely installed bi-fold windows so that on certain occasions when we are hosting, our friends and family can enjoy the sea views. However rest assured that during such times, both kids and cats are kept out of the room. (If you watch the video carefully, unlike most houses, our living room is enclosed by a door, easily keeping kids and cats out.) 3. Facing the conundrum of wanting to keep our views unobstructed and also a cat, we did extensive research and made many enquiries before finding our dear little boy, who is a very docile munchkin cat. The breeder that we got him from had reassured us that with the combination of the short legs and placid nature of the breed and his individual personality, he would be suited for our home. She has many other customers in the same predicament and their cats are all happy and well. Thanks

I grew up in those block and i properly jaded by those view. I think the heat from noon till evening and the dust and noise from the expressway bother me more. I would said the good food nearby ( east coast rd, katong) as well as the beach where i go exercising and the good expressway connection is the plus point.

This place is right beside the east coast park expressway. Do u get a lot of traffic noise from the expressway? I love those point blocks along the sea. Only concern is the noise and heat from west sun. 170k seems a bit excessive for this reno. But the concept is very unique. I always thought long corridors are a waste of space. But it does look good the way u have it.

The ECP is noisy - any expressway would be actually, and is something that residents along this stretch would need to contend with for the views. 👌

Hihi in the interview I was sharing how the house had been empty for decades and left in ruins. The floor boards were rotting away from water that had seeped in and even the cement from walls and ceiling were falling out. That’s why I said it was bad… as in the condition was bad. Those sea views are spectacular! But that kind of folding windows’ sealing performance is not good as the casement windows. Once the typhoon hits , the strong wind will push water through the folding windows --but then I googled if Singapore has typhoons.....the answer is NO😅 goodnews for architects in Singapore I think haha

@@StackedHomes live in Marine Terrace since 1975...once a while you get a combination of wind and rain that will push thru the gap of any sliding window and flood your room. those corridor unit will have rain hitting the door and slide down and flood the house thru the door gap.
