I always get unsettled when I see a glimpse inside the lives of people like these two. As someone who has things that are trendy or just a fear of doing something unique because others might not get it or look at it disapprovingly, I think it's envy I feel when I see folks doing their own thing and daring to think their own thoughts and then pursue them without shame. My experience is so tightly consumerism, while theirs seems free and true to who they are inside. Some of us don't even know who we are that deeply. Makes me sad.

Heres the trick about life, no one whos actually important is going to judge you for doing your own thing. There will always be people that want you to fall in to line but they are inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. We have only one life to live, take full advantage of it. Dont waste it being a follower. As Doctor Seuss once said, "Those who mind, dont matter and those who matter, dont mind."

I'm going to watch this every time I get homesick for NYC. I was a designer too for over 20 years living on a 6th floor walkup on the LES, with my partner and cats, and relate to this so much, including the big old cast iron tub under a giant window. Every year on the first snow, we'd sit in the big tub together and drink hot sake and watch the snow out the window looking at the Williamsburg Bridge.

The corduroy on the sofa reminds me of a Clarence House fabric, "Velours Neptune," that has been on our breakfast room banquette since 1998, whenever the kids spilled food, especially tomato sauce or raisins were ground into the pattern, it became a part of the pattern, very cool, durable and glamorous! We have the same ski chalet treatment in one of our bathrooms too, this is a large NYC apartment.
