This is exactly what Ten Hag was brought in to do. Glazers hired him as a disciplinarian and to reign in egos in the side. It's how he had the backing vs Ronaldo for example.

The summer wasn't the right time for Amorim purely because Ten Hag had just won the FA Cup. Every other aspect would have been perfect for both parties.

It’s really fun to have one of the best starts to the season at a club in decades, and then for the coach to abandon you. I’m not crying.
@fernandomustachioso97374 сағат бұрын
Suppose the positive is that he leaves with a healthy compensation package for the club and his cycle ends on a high. Then maybe a return one day. There's many managers who's legacy gets tarnished by staying that one year too many and it puts an asterisk next to their tenure.
@thebiglebrowski36953 сағат бұрын
It is hard to see it as abandoning the club. He is taking a once in a lifetime opportunity. He would be mad not to.
@mathewsgeorge894 сағат бұрын
You guys rightfully said the things that checks the box for Amorim. But those were the obvious ones. What makes him different is the charisma, communication, man-management, leadership and pragmatism. That’s what he has and ten hag didn’t. Not saying he’s gonna succeed cos of that. But we lacked those elements big time and he brings that and players will get excited and buy into someone like that.

You mean a personality you appreciate? People are different. Very weird that y'all wanted ten hag to be someone he's not. His personality has little to do with winning but anyways

A good insightful discussion, however the problem has never been the managers, any philosophy needs a certain level of physical and mental acumen in the players, to be implemented successfully, unfortunately players like Rashford, Dalot, Bruno, Lindelof, Maguire are not suited to a possession game, i can cite dozens of examples where their heavy first touches, over/under hit passes, poor decision making in tight spaces have cost us goals.and even Casemiro and Eriksen because of their age, provide limited shielding in the midfield and tracking back. We criticise Ten Hag for being stubborn and sticking to his 3-1-6 formation, however any good manager always has a core playing philosophy and makes minor tweaks depending on the opposition he faces, the success or failure of footballing philosophies depend on the conviction and ability of the personnel as well, the current United side have been painfully inconsistent for a very long time, out of his signings Onana, Sabitzer, Weghorst, Martinez, Hojlund, Antony, De Ligt, Malacia, Mount, Mazraoui,, Ugarte, Eriksen, Yoro, Casemiro and Amrabat are technically good footballers with a good mentality. However, if we look closely Weghost, Sabitzer, Amrabat were all loans, Licha, Hojlund, Mount,Yoro and Malacia have all had long injury spells since joining, De Ligt, Mazraoui and Ugarte have just arrived, the only players who have had a decent spell at the club are Onana, Antony, Eriksen and Casemiro and out of the four Antony is the only player who has consistently under-performed. If we had shown a bit of patience he would have found replacements for Rashford, Bruno, Dalot, Eriksen and Casemiro with players having better possession skills, more dynamic abilities to handle counter attacks and tactically disciplined similar to the Ajax midfield he had of Gravenberch, Alvarez and Klassen. We just lost faith with 75% of the work done, yes the results were bad and we were conceding leads but it was obvious why the midfielders were not tracking back and we conceded a lot from cutbacks to the edge of the box, he would have fixed it in a couple of windows, Arteta was afforded the time, and look at where Arsenal are, Ruben will come to a similar realisation very soon in my opinion but unfortunately he may off load some of the Ten Hag regulars as well if they don't suit his plan.

You said what I had no way of articulating. I always wanted to see a full 3rd season. I feel that he was so close this season and I say that knowing we are 14th. We score one, just one goal at palace and villa we are just outside the top 4. I just hope that one day he gets credit for everything he did.
@devils07trunks6 сағат бұрын
Let's also add that our wingers barely provide anything for our center forwards . It is always cut in and shoot. Garnacho has been good but so wasteful. I remember in his first season he would go on the outside and actually attempt to cross with his left foot. Now it's just cut in and try to score. He has CR7 mindset without the attributes that warrant the volume of shots. That's one of my biggest complaints about Erik. That needed to be coached into a young player

David is so correct there is less pressure to succeed with Man United than City. While it is easier to win with City, anything less than semi-Final in CL and a Prem title would be considered underperformance. While the task at United is probably harder, a spot in the CL is already going to be considered sufficient in the short term. Whereas if he achieves more, like being an outside contender for the Prem, he would have already done what no other United manager since Fergie had done.

Man Utd, founded by an extremely wealthy businessman, gifted the countries largest stadium, bought titles in the first few years of existence. They're recognised as one of the biggest clubs in the world and rightly so, but without huge outside investment 120 years ago they'd struggled to have even been an Oldham Athletic.

Manu doesn’t have an A-rate squad that cannot deliver, it’s at best a B-rate squad that (1) had been paid A-rate fees and (2) still surprises some people for not being able to deliver… Of course, being a low B-rate manager, Ten Hag couldn’t create wonders, it will be the same with this new guy. I’d have paid the triple amount to bring someone like Diego Simeone, who can create contenders from underdogs. Of course, Manu need to accept that they are the underdogs first :)

Even if he gets the max out of this team. These players are simply not good enough. Like name one player who'd start for City, Liverpool, Arsenal. There's none! Time to buy that Leverkusen team. Wirtz, Boniface, Grimaldo, Frimpong, Palacios, Hincapie etc.
