In January 2014 this nice old girl ran aground while re-entering Mumbai Harbour, luckily no sailor was injured and INS Sindhughosh was salvaged and towed to her berth, thank god she neither was damaged.

This sub is used to assist cargo vessels near volatile areas near pakistan countries near africa ex. The real subs are much larger and nuclear powered have restricted access. This is diesel powered. And since this is a food related show they would have never got access to a real nuclear powered indian submarine

I think this submarine is carrying 30-40 year old technology. It's really pity that our armed forces are supposed to fight with this archaic weapons. Yes that's a major problem. Actually speaking, a lot of the submarines in the world are of that age. However, the major problem as we can see in this video - is that the submarine is so very noisy! this sub deserves to be scrapped because it is a coffin for the sailors. That much of noise can be detected by ships 1000s of kms away!

Actually Kilo is very quiet for a sub, diesel propulsion is fairly loud however... not sure if you are aware but... when submerged... it runs on batteries...so its quiet..

that noise is actually from the diesel engine.. a diesel electric sub like INS Sindhughosh use diesel engine when surfacing and sometime when snorkeling.. but when submerged,, the boat using electric from the batteries and the diesel will stop.. at that time,, as the diesel is not active,, the sub is very silent..

Fresh water is a problem in diesel electric submarines. However submarines like INS Arihant and INS Arighat, they are nuclear powered and the endless energy from reactor can be used to make fresh water from salt water using reverse osmosis. Hope India gets many more nuclear powered submarines and the crew can take more showers.

Yes , the submarine is a diesel-electric one. It was commissioned in 1986 and will soon be decommissioned once the entire scorpene submarine field is operational. This is a TV food reality show and thus they were allowed to go inside the submarine. The latest Arihant class and scorpene class submarines are access restricted.

Oxygen is generated on board by the submarine with power from the batteries. If the batteries are drained, the submarine has to surface and use its diesel engines to recharge the batteries. That is when it is most vunerable to being attacked.
