I remember when it first opended; was fresh and amazing new, but grey / red bland (none of the club specific touches about trophies, ex players etc). Was weird playing here for so long without a trophy, so after 2014 it started to feel a bit better, and club specific stuff was everywhere. The statues came too about 2017ish too if I remember right. However, the last few years of Wenger made for a mixed, often toxic atmosphere a lot of the time, so it was rarely a great place to be in my experience. But wow, the last few years the atmosphere has been amazing with the new anthem and great chants + the new renovation stuff outside. Give me this and a leaky roof over when it first opened anytime - the leaky roof has been fixed now anyway. 100% better than Old Trafford. Went to Anfield last season after last going in 2009 and wow the change is mental - done a great job there.

The stadium was estimated to cost 350m but that before the property crash. The stadium cost grew to over 540m and the residential development project also took a hit in value and the length of time selling the units off plan that caused us to need Emirates Airlines pay us upfront for the naming rights because the banks who loaned us the money forced us to recogiste the terms of the loans at much higher interest rates. The stadium was designed with a seating capacity of 62500 but during the stadium being built, champions league made changes with the space required for the new advertising hoarding that wraps round the outer edges of the seating area on the ground level that required us remove two rows of seats to be able to comply with the new advertising space requirements. We lost 2k seats but over the years they've managed to increase it by a few hundred seats seats since. The stadium design didnt include the foresight of having potential expansion possibilities for the future and as such its the roof thats rhe major problem for us. Apparently it cant be adjusted plus the council will be steadfast on not allowing it to become taller so jazzing up the roof and lowering rbe pitch is probably the easiest idea but they could also widen the stadium outer ring by 6-10ft and slant the tiers further back to add a new tier on top that hopefully wont breach the councils max hieght limit. It will cost more then 550m we paid to build rhe stadium..
@Ben_Gunner3 күн бұрын
Just a caveat about our relationship with Emirates Airlines and why the stadium and shirt rights seemed cheaply sold and why it was a 10 year deal. It was because the banks demanded more assurances from the club that the loan payments could be paid in light of the financial and property crash because part of the original deal was that the Highbury Square redevelopment and the other apartment blocks they were redeveloping, the projected sales profits that was tied to the original loan agreements had suddenly evaporated plus the cost of building materials went through roof pun intended. So Emirates came to the rescue and agreed to signing a long term rights agreement and gave the banks proof of finances that they could and would fulfil their obligations over that 10 year period and therfore guaranteed we could pay monthly payments for the next 10 years at least by which we'd have built up equity and or sold all our property units with that money tucked in our bank put aside as a safety cushion and the bank actually stipulated we had to always have 50m cash available should we mess up. This in many ways is the reason we had no money and had to sell a star player every season for years. in the 6 months of the stadium being finished, UEFA brought in new advertising hoarding requirements for CL clubs and because we were already so far ahead in the construction they had no choice but use seating spaces furthest forward to the the pitch in order to install the new wraparound hoardings. Wenger was fuming that they weren't aware sooner. The roof is difficult because of how it's designed and that's partly due to the rising costs to building not only the stadium but also the various residential projects being built simultaneously and the latter being used as the calatral for the original loan agreement that the banks later ripped up due to the recession and revised property valuations.

I took my parents on the Emirates Stadium tour, hosted by Charlie George, a couple of years after Arsenal moved in. He did a Q & A session at the end of it. The corporate boxes at the Emirates contribute more box office money than the whole of the previous stadium used to. He stated that the planning permission only allowed for just over 60,000 attendance even though it could be enlarged for many more. No mention of planning permission in this….
@rossmartin28682 күн бұрын
Planning was restricted to 60,000 odd due to the current situation of the transport links. If we can expand those then it should be OK to increase the capacity, especially as planning around the area has been relaxed.

The club mentioned the ability to expand using the room around the pitch in the future soon after the stadium was built. Real Madrid's Bernabeu Stadium have the spectators right up against the pitch - so if northing else, Arsenal really ought to 'close' the 'massive' space between their goals and spectators behind. I have my fingers crossed. Doing this would probably increase capacity by an additional 5,000
