We went last year, after China opened its border again. First visit to China too. We did our research before hand. We downloaded the pay apps, arrange our internet access with our local network providers, change some cash first, arrange debit card facilities with our banks . Lines at the airport were very orderly (but the officers sure were strict, tho' courteous). Everything later was quite a breeze, shopping, shows, tourist sites etc..Whatsapp etc. all work well. And yes, we knew to keep our passports with us all the time. I already knew everything in China will be huge, literally. I have seen enough travel videos. But what I really did not expect and really surprised me was the quietness. The sheer number of cars, motorcycles, cyclists and people on the streets of Beijing and Shanghai and yet, it just felt like a background hum. I think cutting all those noises really reduces the stress of city living. I lived in a moderate size city and I am used to the noise produced by cars and trucks, honkings and tootings, motorcycles revving when out on the streets. There were many other things that amazed me - the size of each meals, the efficiency (my goodness, you could order take-outs from your phones while in the train and the food will be at the next train station for collection), the cleanliness, even in the back lanes of the city, the number of bicycles for rent parked on every curb. I am already thinking of my next trip and I want to explore.

@@ganboonmeng5370 Sorry, I disagree. According to Statista, the KZbin brand is currently worth nearly $30B US. That is more than CNN, MSNBC, ABC and Fox News COMBINED. There are even KZbinrs, obviously not Chinese shills, whose own channels are worth billion$ each. The site also gets billions of views per month. I dare you to identify another long-form media company in the Western Hemisphere that compares. So, KZbin is VERY mainstream and influential. It's also banned in China, which is another topic. And I'd love to see people post pro-American content on Chinese social media sites. Is that even allowed in China?

The yellow steamed cake that you had was osmanthus cake. There are many different types of osmanthus cake in China but this particular one was the Xian style. It’s made with glutinous rice flour, osmanthus fragrans, sugar, topped with candied Chinese dates. The sour taste is from fermentation.

One common "trick" to know whether the foods will taste good whenever you are in a foreign place, is to judge by how crowded the place is. The more crowded it is, the better the chances of how good the foods will be.

Chng, you are not completely. This is what I have thought. When we had travelled tour in eastern China provinces with visit to interest resort spots we came across long queue for the Chinese dumplings. It must be delicious but was not after waited for hours. We did not finish all. It is same as in my countries. Not all long queues for food must be good. It is more dependence on your taste
