@@phl2443 it was about the Kensington area of Philly. About the drug called Tranq, and how it turns people into zombies. Tranq is fentanyl and horse tranquilizers mixed together and it’s destroying lives. It’s so dangerous in that neighborhood lots of people die every day from both overdose and gang violence.

Indeed, the worst place in Tel Aviv (I live there). How many street shooting in a year? Zero. How many people being mugged on gunpoint? Zero. How many women raped on a side street? Zero. You can be a lone woman and still walk your dog there at night. Tel Aviv, one of the best, safest, and most fun party beach cities in the world.

I was once in this area, and a woman told me that she hadn't eaten for several days and had children at home, etc. She wanted money for food, so I told her, no problem, I'll buy you whatever you want, meaning there's a store here and I'll buy you whatever you need. She insisted that she wanted money, and I told her no, I only buy food. So she left. But another time, there was a man who really asked for money for food. I told him I'd buy him some, and he came with me to the store, and we bought food together.

End of the seventies this was a fine, very lively typical working class area with old fashioned Berlin type of apartments. I had friends living there and loved it. It was before the then new Busstation was even build and we still had the old Tagana haMerkazi. A totally messy overcrowded noisy full of oriental music and food stands square with bus platforms and surrounding streets used for busstops and shops everywhere. SO atmospheric and walking distance to the center. It was all abandoned late nineties and later demolished. Times gone by. In those days one could rent an apartment in good north part of Tel Aviv for a few hundred dollars. Wages were very low then. שלום

The people who use public transportation are the poor. It was planned very bad in the 60th like a labirint - the buses on the roof (there is a bridge) and the shops in the basement. People are coming to the bus platforms on the roof to change buses but not going to the abandoned shops in the basement accept the poor people of the neighbourhood who choose to live there because it's cheap and next to public transportation.

Israel is undeniably an apartheid state, with much of the ruling elite (mainly Ashkenazi Jews) pushing for a "Greater Israel." But if you dig a little deeper (thanks to Insightful Nomad!), you'll find Tel Aviv has some truly gritty, funky, and fascinating neighborhoods, full of unique people and eclectic food. Anyone from an East Coast city in the U.S. would easily spot the similarities with the more offbeat side of Tel Aviv.
