Motocross Action takes a deep dive into Jared Lesher's Yamaha YZ250 Two-Stroke. Yep, that's right, a two-stroke competing against the fastest 450s on the planet. But Jared and his mechanic Michael Shaw have a couple of tricks up their sleeves in order to stay competitive with the Premier class. Covered in titanium and carbon, very little of the bike still resembles it's stock counterpart as Jared's race steed is covered head-to-toe with upgrades. Yep. Feld fails to realize how social media has allowed the Privateer and mid pack guys to be underdog hero's. I screamed for Lesher. Screamed for Moranz. It's so fun rooting for the Underdogs on their journeys and adventures in the sport. It's no longer a 1 champ sport. Add a 2 stroke class and the fans will be jumping out of their seats for a whole new crop of winners and contenders, bringing greater marketing value to the sport.

I fn love it. In Australia we got the European YZ's which were white and red. Beautiful. I think they were and are the best looking bikes and colour scheme in the world. A crisp clean colour scheme always

The mentioned STIC Keihin carb meter block insert is no joke. While providing big gains to the low to mid, it also adds peak hp and over-rev. 30 minute max install time. BTW, both jets go up 2(pilot) and 5(main) steps. So he's not kidding when he says it helps a lot. It creates a rapid cooled vapor delivery. When a head requires 98 octane on a 125 for example, premium pump gas can be used. My old KTM 200SX engine is bone stock and I went from a 100/90 to a 110/80. No drop in lugging or power delivery. That's equal to 2.75 teeth down on the rear sprocket! It's like going 25cc big-bore, but it revs much quicker and farther.

@@Shaw413 But how much gains power wise? The website is a bit fishy, claiming it would give you 2-3-4 + HP. That would be more than a pipe and silencer combo. Basically are there some true estimates numbers? Derek should updates his S.T.I.C insert video put it to the test on a stock 250 two stroke, - to really show the benefits and show those who think it "bogus". Basically a back to back test with the stock cast OEM Keihin PWK. People are extremely curious, and if there is Something that can boost the two stroke engines, peoples eyes and ears opens up. If you can gain any advantage over the stock application it is a win win.

@@mikebrown41182 Actually from my experience, exhaust is very mild in comparison to the STIC. In fact, think of combining every bolt-on, same outcome. It can be tuned to a point where it's difficult to manage from off idle to lower mid-range. I understand that there is no way to imagine the performance potential. Imagine a 125 with an exceptionally broad powerband and low end that doesn't want to bog or stall out. No cylinder and case work will do that.

@@surfingawaveoflife Contrair professor, the ugliest sound is blowing up the engine, plus, maxing out rpms in jumps can save your life, literally, and not at the expense of a blown motor. I prefer the two stroke in a dirt bike, for multiple reasons, but the sound is not one of them.

Wishing you as much luck as you need...I started riding and racing 2-strokes back in 1973 and even though I have a couple modern 4-strokes(which are nice) I still seem to prefer any of my garage full of 2-strokes... something about the sound and feel just makes them more fun. It's a real shame the racing has gotten away from 2-strokes...just the cost of maintenance alone makes it tough for up and coming privateers.

Yes, definitely. Theye got the 300 2t's out. Would like to see a 350 fuel injected 2t. Should be competetivee against the 450's.

@@Corteum a direct injected 250 or 300 would be revolutionary. No more premix, just shoot a jet of oil up to the bottom of the cylinder to spread out. A small supercharger on a 2 stroke could also remove the oil premix and oil burning. Once they do that, the 2 stroke will make a huge comeback and possibly come back to the pro series racing.

@@_WatsoBrii94_ yeah the whole story of how the 2 stroke got fazed out 25 years ago really sucks. They did it for no reason. They basically made Yamaha cheat by using the 400 4 stroke they made specifically to beat slightly modified 250 bikes. I really just want to see the 250/300 compete with the 450 class and the 125 compete in the 250 class. The power to weight levels are basically the same, and that's how racing should be classed, power to weight.

Rear brake pedal safetywire. Prevents twigs being caught between the engine and the foot brake lever and the foot brake lever being bent or blocked.
