Living Single is the reason why "Friends" exist. There are interviews about it, Living Single cast barely had a dressing room and "Friends" had everything and they were making more money. Living Single was one of the best black shows during its run…All the characters made sense and I loved how black people were painted in a positive light. They all worked and got along well and had real life situations. I think that’s why Insecure was an instant success with a lot of people because Living Single was the blue print.

The show centers around women empowerment without resorting to making men (Overton and Kyle) look like fools... and also shows respect to women by demonstrating that women can possess negative traits typically associated with men (i.e. Max).

Living Single was that show!!! It showed POC in such a great way!! From the ambitious corporate likes of Max and Kyle, to the self made Khadijah and Overton who emphasized passion for their work, to the stylish but prey to the expectations of society Regine, down to the lovable and wonderful Sinclaire who showed that trying anything can lead you to your calling. They were likable, flawed, funny, exasperating (cough Max cough Regine cough) and just relatable AF. LS paved the road for shows like Friends and it never gets its flowers. AND IT HAD A KILLER THEME SONG ON TOP OF ALL THAT.
