That was a great tour and very meaningful to me. My parents built that house and we lived there until after they divorced. A few details are incorrect though. In the foyer, a huge built in aquarium was in the wall where the shelves are now. The living room had white carpeting but the den ( fireplace and brick floor) is exactly the same. Mom didn’t have a separate bedroom. They shared the master and it was painted black. Dad wanted it to feel like they were sleeping under the stars. The bedroom they’re saying was moms was actually Shared by Rosanne and me. It was our room with a pink tile bathroom. The doors to outside from both suites were added after we moved. We didn’t have a pool when we lived there. The little “shed” by the pool was our playhouse. Dad had it built for us. Dads office is exactly the same. The outside bedroom, bath and closet was for our live in housekeeper. The room with the skylight was where we had a pool table. I really enjoyed this tour. I haven’t been in the house since the late 1960’s so it was very sweet to be able to tour it. Thanks so much! Kathy

Well I'm glad to see that Kathy cash chimed in on the house tour that's pretty upscale for the day. Be wildly comfortable for anybody.Old fellow who lives up the road from me here in rural Wyoming claims to worked on the getting the property grounds prepped up and ready to go. So he claims to have meet the owner Mr. Cash at the time. Small world.

Awe, that is so cool and so sweet to hear you were able to see this and will have it now whenever you want to look back!!! I was going to guess he wanted the ceilings to have the sparkle on them so he could look up and see them and feel like he was outside under the night sky and all of it's stars. the farther from cities you get, the more stars you can see. I bet he grew up in Arkansas back then with mostly small tows scattered and so he would have had a huge galaxy of stars filled sky every night!!! ALL of my love, big ole hugs and blessings of the LORD to you and yours, today and always!!!

My dad was one of the carpenters that built this house. Once it was built Johnny gave my dad tickets to his concert. As that included me just a kid it was my first concert. As a kid I took pride that my family was a part of this history. We lived in Ojai so we were kind of neighbors. We drove by it and we would get excited every time we saw the house. Before the house was finished we got to view the place.

So many people who buy homes like this completely renovate it or demolish it. Personally i would keep it as original as possible. It would be an honor to live in the house once owned by a legend, especially if it was designed by the legend himself. Loved this vlog. Thanks Jordan.

Was that the fire that Johnny started? The one where he killed all the endangered Condors?

@@dynodish No, the fire he caused was in 1965. It burned 508 acres in the Los Padres National Forest. The fire was in the Condor Sanctuary. Cash was ordered to pay $82,000 in damages. Adjusted for inflation this would be $500,000 today.

She was married to Rodney Crowell, another fantantic songwriter and singer. I'll bet she has photos of this home. And great memories of her family. Perhaps she would share them with you. She has always been a favorite of mine. Please listen to " Tennesee Flat Top Box" and you'll be hooked! No doubt she knows and grew up around all the friends of her Dad. That was a great showing, truly it was! I too, loved those ceilings, so original and unforgettable. I can see other homeowners redoing their own ceilings or or requesting that type in a new home. Absolutely a beautiful home w original concepts. White carpeting was spoken about and white carpeting is also a Graceland feature. Just because one grew up in the 'country', doesn't mean that one lacked 'great taste' in homes! And these ideas came about during the early to mid 60s! What great taste these 'country boys' had! It's been and is still being proven. ❤ Thank you, Jordan and Ms. Cash--for your texted input! ❤

Awesome Jordan!! What timing. I just now finished John Carter Cash's "House of Cash" and have been on another Johnny kick with the CD set Love, God, Murder and my old Cash vinyl. Back in early '90 I begged off a Saturday lunch shift at my restaurant as my band had a gig that night. Robert Duvall had been a regular customer of mine while filming Days of Thunder. Well he came in that Saturday and brought lunch guests. And by guests I mean Johnny and June Carter Cash and Waylon Jennings and Jesse Colter. I was livid for giving up that shift. My buddy took a picture of them all to rub it in.

My family built our house in California in the late 60’s-early 70’s, and it had the same sparkly popcorn ceilings. We were very middle class, and when I asked my dad why he had the ceilings done that way, he said it was both for insulating and acoustic purposes. Some builders said they had asbestos in them, others said they were perfectly safe. They were awful to clean, as everything stuck to them, including cobwebs!

The trouble with glitter ceilings is keeping the glitter over time. Whether we like it or not, even ceilings get their share of dust build up, as well as the oxidation of the sparkling metal to keep the appearance loosing its luster. Most people without the "live-in housekeeper" like the Cash's had, like myself, would prefer a lower maintenance affair with a smoother finish that could be cleaned with a Swiffer product in less then an hour.

I used to put him on a pedestal. After my husband had an affair, I read viv's book. It helped me so very much and I didn't feel so alone and lonely. It even hurt me the way he did things, and to realize from a different perspective how June was toward viv. Times change but people and their actions don't. I learned that also. We are all sinners. It just really showed me that you can keep going and you can be successful after trauma.

Thank you so much for sharing this video. I believe the stuff on the ceilings (was or is) referred to "popcorn ceiling". I know it was very popular around the 1980's. We had it done to the house We were living in at the time.

Awesome tour of Johnny Cash house. Looks like the one in the movie of his life with Qaquin Phoenixs? 1960s was an awesome time for decor. You could have a Jetson's living room and a colonial den with wagon wheel chandelier. The popcorn ceilings was all the rage then, especially with glitter. Its came in gold or silver. My mom chose gold in our house.

I remember some of the sidewalks in the LA area, San Fernando valley had glitter too. Looked really cool in the streetlights at night.

You would see the "popcorn" sparkle ceilings in all the 1960's suburb sub-division homes. When the homes would eventually change hands, the first thing to go was those ceilings. I heard that the popcorn material contained asbestos and that was one of the reasons new owners wanted them gone. That, and changing tastes made these ceiling outdated.

Most (if any) popcorn ceilings are not asbestos, its a wives tale.

Wasnt expecting this video to pop up in my feed but love that it did! Ive lived in Ojai CA for 40+yrs & pass by the Johnny Cash sign all the time! Huge Cash fan so it always makes me think about his music+life story. Ive seen various docs+movies which show this time in his life, this home- hes 1 of many celebs who have lived here. Thanks for this video! The nostalgia on Mr Cash living here & Kathy Cash's comment about her parents building that home makes me love our Valley more given the rich history & tradition it holds.

Those acoustic ceilings were all the rage back then. I remember my parents buying a house and had the acoustic ceilings blown in, minus the sparkles. Then when I bought a house it had that tyro of ceiling and we had to scrape it all off by hand. What a mess. I never like those type of ceilings because the dust would build up and they would be dingy. It’s funny for some reason I thought his house would have been much much bigger. Thanks for the video my daughter is 16 and she’s a big Johnny cash fan. I shared this video with her.
