I can see why Johnny loved Sweetzer so much. It has the most amazing old world feel. If I was going to picture the place where he lived this would be it. He seems to have such a passion for the old and vintage. I just love the overgrown look of everything and the feel of seclusion. The world is very forgetful and although now this trial and Johnny appear legendary in a couple of months it will be someone and something else and he'll be able to get back to living his life the way he chooses. He knows that. He loves his privacy and if he thought this trial would have caused him to lose what little he has left I don't think he would have done it.

The 1498 Sweetzer home has some pretty neat history tied to it. It was built by Clark Gable for his then wife Carol Lombard who tragically died in a plane crash. Decades later it was bought by the British singer Morrissey who I think was the seller in 2005? You can see bits of the home in a mini doc called ‘The importance of being Morrissey’.
@RussMcClay2 жыл бұрын
That's incorrect. The home was built for Hersee (Helen) Moody Carson and George Campbell Carson.

I read that Bela Lugosi also lived in 1498…the house(s)& surroundings are absolutely incredible ✨.
@StrangeHistoryX2 жыл бұрын
It seems possible that one of the reasons why Depp wants to buy all the homes is so that he can request permission from the city to put up a security gate so only authorized people can go up this part of N. Sweetzer. One house is used as a RECORDING STUDIO. I think I read that another is for SECURITY personnel. And the others are for guests or are rented out. Maybe he was hoping his children would live in two (2) of them when they grow up and get married, etc. What do you think?

I think they are good investments for tax implications and assets. Another reason he likely wants to own surrounding properties is 1) no new neighbors moving in and out of the area (privacy), 2) no rental properties next door to him, and 3) no Air B & B’s…Bad neighbors and renters lower the value of a neighborhood.
@StrangeHistoryX2 жыл бұрын
In hopes that people will stop asking me how I figured this out ... here ya go .... There are SEVEN (7) houses in the neighborhood. We know for a fact that Johnny Depp owns FIVE (5) of them, ONE (1) of them last sold in 1979 so he does NOT own that one. The other one last sold in 1986, so he does NOT own that one either. This was pretty easy to figure out. It ain't exactly brain surgery. Took me about 5 minutes. This is all SPELLED out (literally!) in the video, so I don't understand why some people are confused about this.

Well said , a little nest egg for his children beautiful indeed. That would be my opinion on this matter. Beautiful trees and gardens surroundings. Thank you for sharing.❤️
@StrangeHistoryX2 жыл бұрын
It seems to me that he could ask his neighbors if that would be okay with them. After all, the neighborhood to the west is similar and they have a private gate. But this is something Depp has dealt with for a very long time. After all, he bought a very well-known house. It’s always been legendary and is sooo close to Sunset. He could have bought anything but clearly he really appreciated the house and had the resources to restore it to its former glory. 🙃

Really interesting. I feel bad though, that this trial is exposing every single aspect of his life and even his homes. That said, Johnny’s sense of style is amazing. I’ve probably driven by his houses on Sweetzer a million times and never knew he lived here. Nor would I drive into his neighborhood to be a lookiloo just out of respect for him. I see tour buses in the area all the time and they are genuinely cringeworthy.
@StrangeHistoryX2 жыл бұрын
I have friends who are celebrities and they knew what they were getting into, and they expect it as part of the careers. It's not as big of a deal as people think. It's not like anyone can go and knock on his door. And he has plenty of security, so he is fine. Depp could have guaranteed himself some more privacy if he didn't buy a historic house that is right off of Sunset. But clearly he wanted it and it made sense for him. Besides, it's not his only home. Who knows how much time he even spends there? Based on the trial testimony, it seems like he spent more time in the penthouse. Probably a lot more fun with friends being able to come and go and better security. Tour buses are annoying. Especially since so much of their info is usually incorrect. Especially in NYC.

Funny story, last year while on our LA vacation with my two sons we drove there, unbeknownst to us JD lived there. We first went to the Griffith Observatory, then camped for hours at the Funko store and the Shake Shack, and took wacky pictures on Hollywood Walk of Fame. My younger son asked where the stars lived and wanted to go there so I drove erratically looking for the hills, we drove into one street that ended too soon and I had a hard time turning around. The next street seemed open so I put my cell phone on the dashboard on record, we still have the video showing the location as N Kings Rd, then driving onto Queens Rd, past Franklin all the way to the top. It felt weird, like invading one’s privacy, driving in our Toyota rental two steps away from front gates and doorsteps; the narrow streets were like a maze and my son said “Honestly, I don’t get all the hyper about Beverly Hills!” And later, “Beverly Hills is a DREAM for rock climbers!” lol lol lol, as we passed the rocky walls at the top 😂😂 I don’t have a video of N Sweetzer but now that I know JD lives there, we’d never drive there. I don’t think it’s unsafe though, since he’s on a cul de sac, it’s actually safer for him especially if he uses security measures, a stranger can’t blend-in there, and would have a hard time escaping 😎😄
