With its inaugural Caribbean journey just nine days away, Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas dwarfs even historical giants like the Titanic. Spanning an impressive 1,200 feet, this colossal vessel is ready to host nearly 10,000 passengers. CBS News' Kris Van Cleave got an exclusive look inside.
Each weekday morning, "CBS Mornings” co-hosts Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson bring you the latest breaking news, smart conversation and in-depth feature reporting. "CBS Mornings" airs weekdays at 7 a.m. on CBS and stream it at 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

I agree. They can't get all those people off the ship in a disaster when you have few minutes. The Lusitania, which was a little small than Titanic sank in 20 MINUTES!! They are playing with fire. The Costa Concordia was very lucky to have a rock to prevent it from sinking or that would have been a huge disaster!!!

Trash is organized into type, and compacted to save room. Once the ship gets back to Miami it’s unloaded. As for food, at times cruise ships will dump certain food at certain points in the ocean to feed the fish(when allowed). When it comes to human waste, all liquids are filtered down to practically drinking water and used to cool the engines and dumped back into the ocean. Solid waste is emptied when back in Miami. Hope this helps.

Tony, I get that the unpaid interns doing your graphics don't understand the need for journalistic integrity and catching their logical mistake, but yours is the network of Murrow and Sevareid, for god's sake. (No, I'm your generation, but I'm literate.) When you talk about "...for scale" regarding the largest cruise ship in the world, did you notice how you made the 883-foot-long Titanic less than half the size of the 1,198-foot (a difference of a mere 316 feet) Icon of the Seas? And in so doing, you made the blue whale, at 100+ feet, less than 1/26 the length of the new ship, when it would really only take a dozen whales, snout-to-tail, to cross the distance. I appreciate the drama you were trying to lend the story, but facts matter.

I like to take my time and eat breakfast in the dining room while everyone else is jam packed trying to disembark. It’s even worse if there is a shuttle boat you have to wait for. After the crowd rush I can walk out freely. I also learned that I don’t care for excursions. I like to just get off the ship to walk around, buy souvenirs, checkout the beach then head back to the ship while it’s still empty. No long lines or crowds. I’m kind of a homebody introvert.

Well that's for a stateroom, which are generally the more expensive options. If you go for an inside cabin (no windows) it would probably be $1000-$2000 depending on the sailing. New ships tend to have higher demand, so likely on the upper end of that scale

@@appropriate-channelname3049 Countries are already closing ports f.e. Amsterdam or have them berth further outside major cities like Barcelona did because of this pollution. The problem is that they do not have an exact solution to the problem. Not every location is the same. There is more to this issue than only money. But hey, if you think that this cruises are just great and pumping money is the only thing that matter than you are part of the issue like most major consumers. Me, me, me.... its pathetic

What a pile of crap. I wouldn't entertain anything over 60,000grt and preferrably something sub 40.000grt. That i-Con thing is just a giant theme park complex ... not proper cruising at all.
