The Rime IN Flex Hooded jacket is a super warm synthetically insulated jacket that has been designed to optimise freedom of movement. It’s most at home on mountaineering trips in the alps as well as cold walks in the Brecon Beacons.

I bought this jacket on sale last winter. It quickly became my favorite jacket for colder weather, (low 30,s) I have a couple of high end jackets but this is my favorite, warm and it looks great on me. I’m waiting on the Marmot Novus jacket, and can’t wait to compare them.

I've had this jacket for almost 2 years and it totally exceeded my expectations. I've been pleased with it since the first time I wore it which was a cloudy cold and windy day with temps in the mid 30's but real feel was a bit colder because of the wind. I was surprised at how warm it was for its weight. The Rime is light and toasty. Blocks wind and breathes very well for what it is. Outer fabric is DWR treated and will be resistant to mild rain and snow. I LOVE how the collar zips ALL the way up to where you can tuck your chin and lower face down into the collar when its really windy or storming out. You get a GREAT ergonomic fit throughout the body, shoulders and arms without the jacket feeling baggy or too loose. Fit across the chest down to the hips is a bit trimmer but still gives enough room to layer. With a fleece pullover or heavier thermal base layer you could easily wear this jacket down to temps ranging from upper 20's to mid 30's. Because this jacket has such a high collar and NO pit zips you would want to wear it in colder temps rather than milder. Pockets are dialed in perfectly. 2 alpine chest pockets for quick access to keys, phones and money....and the 2 handwarmer pockets are raised and roomy. The hood on the RIME is another awesome feature, its BIG has 2 way adjustment and the fit is a 10 out of 10. Mammut REALLY did a awesome job on this jacket all around. The only improvements I would make is giving it pit zips and slightly tighter wrist cuffs which are a personal preference of mine. I will be doing a review of this jacket as well this weekend. Please check it out when you have a chance. MY channel is called Gear Wave!

It won't be as durable as a hardshell, but that's because it isn't designed to be. It's lightweight and compressible to give you warmth with a small pack size and plenty of breathability. Harry

Hi Paul, thanks for this great review. Really thinking about getting one. Just one question: how does it pack ? The Rime LIGHT seems to pack very neatly. What about this one ? Thanks.

It packs down to around the size of a 2L water bottle (but a bit fatter and shorter). Harry

Love Mammut. They make good technical gear, but sometimes a bit fragile. They do, however, stand by their warranty as I was shipped a brand new jacket after my other jacket had a zipper fail. This jacket looks interesting...do you have a good idea of how ajungilak synthetic stands up to constant wear? How does it compare to polartec, core loft, and other synthetic brands? MY experience is the synthetic insulations wear out too fast for my liking...a couple years of good wear and the loft is useless.
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 жыл бұрын
Ajungilak is one of the more durable and long lasting synthetic insulations. With regular washing and maintenance it has been known to last 15-20 years (especially in sleeping bags). The key is to wash it regularly and reproof the outer material (in the case of a jacket) when the DWR wears off to prolong the insulation underneath. Kind regards, Harry.

Congrats for the video :) Comparing this Mammut Rime IN Flex vs the Montane Duality Jacket, what are the main similarities and differences? Have you received any feedback from Clients on the Montane?
@trekitt
@trekitt 2 жыл бұрын
The Duality is a fully waterproof insulated jacket that's best for low-intensity activities in the wet and cold. The Rime is a non-waterproof insulated jacket with higher levels of breathability for mid/high-intensity activities in the cold. Harry

...and also comparing this one to Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody jacket, which one is better?
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 жыл бұрын
Which one is better? That's a really tough question and it all depends on what you're doing, when you're doing it and your own personal preferences. The main differences however, are that the Rime has a stretch fabric and filling and is slightly more breathable. Otherwise they are very similar.

Hello Harry and Paul. I know it's been over a year since you reviewed this jacket. It seems this is a garment that is overlooked (and maybe underappreciated) by buyers - it most certainly is lacking reviews from people that bought it. Based on reading your replies to comments, I'm fairly certain neither of you use the Rime personally. Do you ever hear feedback from customers about this jacket? Another question - I searched for reviews on the water resistance and durability of Pertex Quantum Air but did not find anything worthwhile, especially with respect to durability. In your experience, how does the Pertex Quantum Air outer material (in general, if not for the Rime itself) hold up to pack straps, both a day pack and a multiday backpack? Also, I realize the Rime with its Pertex is not as rain resistant as the Atom LT, but does the Rime compare to the air permeable Proton LT with respect to both rain resistance and durability (assuming well maintained DWR using Tech Wash, etc.)? Thanks for all the fantastic reviews.
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony. Thanks for getting in touch. You are right in your assumption that none of use the Rime as an everyday jacket. That's mainly due to the fact that we have plenty of jackets already and there's only so much space in our outdoor locker. There are no customer reviews on our website, but general feedback from our Service Centre customers has been very positive. With regard to the durability of the fabric, Pertex Quantum Air is fundamentally designed to be light and breathable, it will cope with "daypack" sized packs and regular outdoor use. But if you intend to give the jacket a hard time then you may need to consider an alternative. Breathability is on par with the Proton. I hope this helps. Paul.

Hi, is the jacket resistant to abrasion? What temperatures would you recommend it for? Thank you!
@trekitt
@trekitt Жыл бұрын
Yes, Pertex Quantum is generally pretty tough. Temperature is a hard one as it depends how fast you're moving, what you're wearing underneath, etc. Here in the UK it's an ideal winter layer when moving relatively quickly, so between -5°C and +5°C sort of temp.

Hello. Could you please compare it in a few words vs arc'teryx ATOM LT ? Warmth/Robustness/wind/water/breathability. Thank you
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 жыл бұрын
The Atom LT uses a wind resistant main fabric with air permeable side panels for breathability, whereas the Rime features an air permeable fabric all round for maximum breathability. The Rime features more insulation and does feel warmer when you've got it on, however the Atom is arguably a more versatile piece. I'd recommend trying both on and making a choice based on how warm you need to be and which one fits you best. Kind regards, Harry.

@@trekitt Hi there, what about the Atom AR? It seems to be the nearest competitor. Which one is warmer? Thank you in advance :-)
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 жыл бұрын
@@christiankastle2831 The Atom AR definitely feels warmer, but less breathable due to the Rime's Quantum Air outer fabric.
@GearWave
@GearWave 4 жыл бұрын
The RIME does not have breathable panels under the arms like the ATOM LT. Chilly breezy gusts can be felt passing though those side panels on the LT. When it gets a little too breezy or chilly for the LT you can wear the ATOM AR or the RIME. The ATOM has a mix of 80/60 grams of insulations BUT the Mammut RIME has 100 grams of synthetic fill throughout which will make it warmer overall. I believe breathability in the RIME is a bit better than the ATOM AR as well. I have the ATOM AR, this Mammut RIME and the ATOM LT. In cool not too chilly and windy days I wear the LT. On chillier days I can wear the AR or the RIME. The RIME will breath a lot better than the AR though.

Hello, how does the jacket rime in Flex compare to the jacket rime light in Flex?The Light version has 40g Hello, how does the jacket compare to the jacket? The Light version has 40g insulation. Is the light version suitable for trekking? won't it be cold in there?
@trekitt
@trekitt 7 ай бұрын
The light is still suitable for trekking, but is better suited as a slightly more active insulation piece, so when you stop you may feel the cold a little more. So use the Light in warmer conditions or when you're moving and generating more heat.

If i'd use it as an outlayer, and wearing a t-shirt a sweater and a softshell jacket under it, then should i go a size up? Normally i'd say i'm size L.
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 жыл бұрын
With those layers underneath, I would consider sizing up - it's a relatively trim fit. I would, however, recommend wearing this instead of a softshell rather than on top of it. The Rime's outer fabric will allow a little wind through, cooling you down when you're working hard; with a softshell underneath it will limit its breathability. In regards to which one you should choose between this and the Atom LT, it largely comes down to which one fits you best. Other than the fit, the main difference is that the Atom LT's outer fabric is wind resistant with air-permeable panels, whereas the Rime's outer fabric is air-permeable all over. The Rime will work better during high-intensity activities, but the Atom offers more weather resistance. Kind regards, Harry.

@@trekitt oh and one more question: with those layers i mentioned underneath should i go a size up with the ATOM jacket as well? Does that jacket needs a softshell layer underneath at all or it's warm enough for a winter in Europe?
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 жыл бұрын
@@balintnadas8554 Like the Rime, the Atom is something you'd most likely wear instead of a softshell rather than with it. Unfortunately I can't say whether it'd be warm enough as it largely depends on which activity you're doing, how warm you are as a person, your choice of other layers, etc.
