If you watch until the end, they talk about Pro Football Reference reporting on sacks prior to 1982. The most Jones had in a season was 22. They also point out that there were fewer passing attempts when Jones played, as opposed to Strahan, TJ Watt, etc., and that the season was 14 games. There's no doubting Jones's historical stature.

He needs to get over it at this point. But a lot of people will never deny that was not a sack. And The NFL should have ruled on it not being a sack. But Gastineau was there and the game was on national television ... so the NFL probably said just give it to him ... the whole thing closed the game. Gastineau did not even realize it all at the time. But Gastineau is just going to be labeled a Bitter Ex- Football Player who lost his record with controversy. Blame the NFL for allowing the BS.

The better, more important story -- never told (and so far as I know never even asked about) -- is why Brett Farve was sacked so many times, so violently, in his final 2010 season with Minnesota. I have never seen a QB get hit so many times, so hard by un-blocked defenders as Brett Farve was in his final 2010 season with Minnesota. It was like watching a crash dummy. Intentional?
@KP99
@KP99 2 сағат бұрын
That was a weird team. Remember Farve had them trade a 2nd rd pick to the Patriots for Randy Moss, Moss was mad to have to go there even though he started his career there, so he threw a fit during a team meal, then showed up at a post-game press conference wearing a Red Sox hat (implying he still wanted to be playing in New England), and was finally cut after like 3 games!

IMO, Reggie White should have had the most sacks in a season record. In 1987, He had 21 sacks in 12 games. 1987 was the strike year. The first week of strike games were cancelled. Replacement players were used in the next three games until the strike was over. I'm sure Reggie would broken the record if he played in those games.

I remember this 2001 game very well. The Packers were blowing the Giants out, then, late in the game, Brett Favre and Michael Strahan had a brief interaction, which was followed by the record-breaking play. The Packers clearly allowed Strahan to have that record and this is the reason why Warren Sapp said a season later Michael’s record should have an asterisk next to it.

There are iffy sacks all the time. If a guy gets one hand on a QB as he goes out of bounds that's a sack. A guy can slap a QB's foot causing him to stumble that's a sack. One of the most pathetic, embarassing, childish things I've seen in quite awhile. First off, his little high horse about having the "real" record is nonsense. The NFL didn't even count sacks until the 80s. What if Deacon Jones came up and whined to Mark for breaking his "record?" Obviously he thinks Favre did it on purpose, so what? Grow up. His own teammates spend the entire documentary talking about what a selfish, horrible teammate he was. He cares only about Mark. Brett is a pos, but for far different reasons. Totally embarassing. The sack king, truly, is probably Deacon Jones. And he was doing it in 12/14 games. Records get broken, you just make yourself look like an immature 6 year old who can't handle someone beating him at anything. Especially when you were literally at the game and made a big show out of congratulating Michael 😂 Dude needs to go live his life as comfortably as he can for however many years he has left. Spend time with your family and forget about the stupid "record" you never really should have had to begin with, and move on.
