I am a small farmer from Islamabad Pakistan and have less than one acer land which is drying up due to old farming technology. Its very hard to survive due to high prices of inputs. Although I am trying my best to do farming in organic way but don't have enough knowledge and lack of support is another hurdle. Recently, I saw some articles and news regarding new Brunswick critical worker pilot program and wish to be part of these kind of Farms of the Future program and learn and earn at the same time. I just applied for some jobs in McCain Foods and now waiting for the response. Hope to be part of this kind of project in future.

One good way to build resilience would be to network with people in your regions. Often there is mass scale discount, and if you organise in a cooperative of farmers, all the members will have better prices. You can also exchange plants that grow in all of your lands and produce offsprings for free. You can find plants that can resist better to dry climate to throw shade on your land. This way there will be more humidity availible for other plants. By doing some compost and collecting rain water you can also increase the period in which the soil stay more humid. Be careful though if you use a plastic container, as it can pollute your water with microplastic traces. If you have a space where you can grow small trees, you can use the shadow to have more humidity too. Some species might be irrigated by grey waters. Usually, they are the one we use for other things than food source. If you can find some mulch, it will also reduce the speed at which the water from the ground evaporate. Farming is for sure a work that needs a lot of knowledge. All plants have preferences and specificities. They also have properties you can associate. Long roots will collect water deeper and wide roots will collect surface water quicker. It will influence your land soil profile and ability to retain humidity. Usually, clay soil will retain humidity from the atmosphere. Bringing mulch will help to get there. If your land has various profiles throught the year, and throught the daylight, for example there is rain every afternoon, so there is only sun in the morning and at noon, you might build parcels of garden where the conditions are more favorable and do some landscaping around to help these desired properties to emerge. If there is a wind with humidity from a direction to another, a wall of trees might help retain some. You might also shade some parts of your land. You can look for informations on permaculture online when you have access to internet and also divise the work with other farmers. Usually, fair trade projects support farmers and growers as they learn how to do a sustainable agriculture practices. Maybe there is also projects availible for you there. I hope you'll also get the opportunity to join a project or to start your own. If you spend a lot of time outdoor, you can wear long sleeve dark artificial fabric to shield you from the sun, but it's less breatable and can get you in heat. Stay hydrated. A hat or longer hair and beard will also protect you. It's better to water the plants when the sun rays aren't at their maximum force otherwise water act as a magnifier and damage the leaves. Watering more slowly and at the feet of the plants also help to keep the nutrients in place.

We shouldn't exploit animals to support the soils, but plant-based solutions.

You either support agenda 2030 and Net Zeron or you support farmers, you can't do both. #wef #agenda2030
