I say this with love Tom because, for a while, I really looked into growing Spotify. But when I saw it was going to take countless songs, countless cash, countless EVERYTHING, before even a semi significant amount of revenue was generated from this platform I stopped. I understand that it’s important to build brand awareness but spending money to grow something which is practically *free* makes no sense. I’ve spent hundreds on promoting songs in the past and all I have to show for it as a couple dollars of royalties. Now I’m moving into producing music for artists while growing my fanbase via list building. Good luck. I hope it works out for you. 🙏

It’s true.. hard to make revenue off streaming.. it’s got to be because you simply want to share your creation for the intrinsic value it creates.

Streaming revenue is the smallest part of revenue even for A-List artist. The money is in touring, merch, brand deals and NFT’s once you have an audience.

I'm getting 15 cent links clicks targeting Us only with automatic placements, but I'm not sure if I can trust those results on a traffic campaign.

Does the number of link clicks corespond with your spotify for artist page count of streams? Cheers

I think the biggest upside of conversion campaigns is that you can use more placements. Story clicks convert into streams - both link click campaign and conversion campaign. But other placements produce useless clicks in traffic campaigns. Conversion campaigns should manage to differentiate those clicks to "likely to bounce" and "likely to convert".

I agree. I think it's twofold-the placements, like you mentioned, and the countries you can target as well. The options both expand with conversion campaigns, which is why I think that's the ultimate place we want to be.

Hey! Thanks for your very insightful and well-crafted videos! I've got a question, maybe someone could help me. I'm trying to run a facebook and with conversions, but under "Conversion events" there are only "inactive events" such as "add payment info" and "add to chart" to choose from, no "active events" with spotify conversion. I guess there is some problem with the basic settings on my profile in ad manager? All the best, E.

When doing conversions, what site are using to count the conversion? Your own site? ToneDen, hyppedit?

Im getting started back into ads; im just gonna deal with the higher costs for the time being, let the data compile, then over time they should come down. Gonna use conversions for cold audience and most likely link clicks for more warm audiences

Hey Tom, im having a personal issue with facebook ads lately since the ios 14 update we had and the fact the conversions dont work anymore. do we still have to make a website to convert to spotify

If you're using conversion ads, you'll definitely still need a landing page. But traffic ads are also an option if you only want to target NA and western Europe.

Great Video Tom i needed it! Just got one question, when you select conversion do you also re-select conversion for the ad delivery optimization or optimised delivery for link clicks? A message shows up when i select „link clicks“ stating that i might not get great results with that and that i should go for conversions instead! Thanks

Target Spotify and then narrow for the genre.

Hey Tom, could you explain why you didn’t target certain countries on that spreadsheet? How would you get your music heard by those people if you’re going for a worldwide targeting approach?

Thanks for this video! Is very interesting the way you experiment things to know what works best. Question: why do you have Argentina in the do not target section of your google sheet ?

Thanks for watching! I've found Argentina to convert very poorly from Facebook and Instagram to Spotify. It also pays out very little per stream compared to the rest of the countries where Spotify is available. Poor conversion and a low rate of return on ad spend are the primary reasons.

is starting with 6 ad sets at only $10/day spreading the budget too thin? seems like each as set wouldn’t get enough budget to really test. what’s the highest CPC will start out with day 1-3 before coming down to a good cost? thank Tom!

How are we not talking about our main goal here: getting streams. It's cool getting a low cost per conversion but if you're not getting streams, isn't that worthless ? I'd rather pay more for a conversion and have it convert into listeners, streams and followers, than just getting a super low cost per conversion and have no streams to show for it. Let's maybe spend more time on Spotify For Artists and see how it's actually performing! :)

You're definitely right. Streams are the ultimate goal. Lots of coverage of that on my channel. This video is just a bit more niche and focuses on this specific part of the process. I hope you'll go down the rabbit hole on my videos to see how the rest of the process plays out!

The CPM in India is so low that it will eat my entire budget and prevent me from growing anywhere else. And since I don't live in India and am not actively trying to grow there as an artist, it makes sense for me to leave it out.
