Went to Pigeon Forge last month and stopped at the Knoxville location. I found out there was a Chatanooga store and stopped there on the way back. Spent a few $$ without even diving too deep they were so well stocked with goodies.

Be prepared for two hours at minimum to do a barely adequate run-through of the store. I usually went 3-4 hours on my visits. And make sure to be out of there by 3pm because I-40 is a nightmare at rush hour from end to end of the county if you leave too late.

Love this place. We have a niece that lives in Knoxville and when we go there to visit from Arizona its one of our must see stops. I usually go home with a suitcase full of stuff from them.

I lived in Nashville a decade ago and this was my place. It's on the far southwest part of the county well outside of the city and took some effort to get to on Nashville's terrible expressway system, especially as I lived on the far northeast end of the county in Hermitage, but I would try to get there at least once a week. I almost never spent money there because I dealt in large lots and basically always had $100 in rolling trade-in credit to spend (it's complicated, but it worked). Best bookstore I've ever known and they pretty much have everything. I was buying exotic CDs from the markdown shelves for as cheap as 5 cents each, among other things.

It's a shame there are not more stores like this around the U S. The one in my area is called Bull Moose. It's not as large as McKays, But it sells CD's, DVD's, Vinyl records, Video games, Books of every category, VHS tapes, and more. Imagine, media you can actually hold in your hand !

“media that you can actually hold in your hand.” I found that comment so poignant, especially considering I’m old enough to remember a time when physical media was all there was, and now it is fading away and basically going the way of the dodo. I mean, yeah sure physical media isn’t going to go away completely, but it clearly isn’t mainstream anymore.

I visit the Knoxville store at least 3 times a week. Its always super busy. You would never know that phyiscal media was dead when you visit a McKays!

If you build it, and it's good, they will come. The reason the national chain bookstores are struggling is that they suck. McKay's does it right.

This place looks…AMAZING!😮 I want to live there! Lol For me it would be a 5 1/2 hour drive if I took the expressways. Which I am not a fan of doing, otherwise it would be an 8 to 9 hour drive which I’m not sure I’d be able to handle considering my back issues. *sigh* why can’t we have things like this where I live?😢 Right before the pandemic there used to be a chain of stores mostly in the Midwest called Buybacks that specialized in used movies and music. They were comparatively small, but it was better than nothing. I miss them so much! Anyways, excellent video. Thank you for giving us a peek into this wonderful place! 😊

I'm there almost every weekend. it's a problem. I do sometimes wonder how they make money but I guess everything they sell is technically making a profit for them. You just have to have the capital to buy it all upfront.

I haven't been to Nashville but Chattanooga & Knoxville are fairly similar. Based on your video they look like they are all pretty uniform now (except what you find obviously). If you come I'd be happy to show you around or help with anything in the area

Too bad it’s all not brand new. I still buy physical media for movies, and you won’t convince me that paying for something digital, where if my internet connection is down or the quality of fluctuating means that I can’t even watching something I’ve PAID for is better. But I hate sifting through troughs a places like an animal today, instead of simply having things organized on a shelf. And a lot of these places feel like low-brow dirty flea markets. Man do I just miss nice store selling physical media brand new.
