A very nice video of my beloved Nicosia (and Cyprus) which I would love to see in one piece again 12:35 I understand the sentiment towards Turks, but they let everyone cross the Green line especially from the southern part to the northern part. I have never seen any dramas in the past 16 years of me being in Cyprus. People whose citizenship require a visa to travel to EU (e.g., Turkish, Russian, Iranian, etc.) are not allowed to cross from northern part to the southern. So, of course they did let you through =) In the Armenian quarter, whose original name is Arab Ahmet, the Armenian Cypriots were somewhat much smaller in number in the neighbourhood. It was apparently a very affluent area dwelled by the high ranking officials, rich merchants and apparently one of the reasons why Armenians also chose to live there was because it was a Turkish-speaking neighbourhood. As for the mosques.. sadly, Ottomans converted several churches into mosques. However, as per the 1960 titles etc. some of those converted-to-mosque churches had to retain the official status of mosque. In fact, the now Greek Cypriot-run government of RoC (well, the 24 of the 80 seats in the parliament and the vice-president's seat with veto power have been vacant since 1963) maintains and restore these mosques itself. 14:37 The Armenian Church (Our Lady of Tire) has actually never been converted to a mosque. Sadly, it does not have a regular mass; however, it is a well maintained, beautiful church. And I think they have services a couple of times a year. I am not sure what your guide told you but we cannot find that out in your video. As far safety goes, either side of the Green Line is very safe. Enjoy your stay and thanks for a quick glimpse of the lovely "Surlariçi" =)

Cyprus isn't occupied AT ALL. The fact that TRNC is not recognized by other nations doesn't change the fact that it's a full nation that's been living peacefully there since its creation.

Turks enslaved the Greek people for over 300 years and treated them like absolute crap, including periodical kidnapping of girls, rape and forced islamizations. This part you always forget. From 1821 (Greek Revolution) until the arrival of the British in 1878 over 300 Greek villages and thousands of Greek where genocided and the villages levelled. You may have forgotten this crucial part of history, but the Greeks that matter, never will.

Fairy tales! The invasion and occupation of Northern Greek Cyprus was part of the so-called "Kissinger Plan" to bring the island under NATO via Turkish terrorism of the island. The West, the US in particular, armed Turkey to invade the island. I know this is hard for the Turks understand and digest because, unlike democratic and non-dictatorship countries, the news is fed to them by their government instead of they looking for the news. What their government says goes and it becomes official news and then they invent laws to punish those who seek for the truth and have a view different from the false and made-up Turkish government's narrative!

its not occupied honey, its two different nations. Greeks decided to slaughter Turks in Cyprus and the islands got separated. Same with Karabag, you Armenians attacked in the 1990s and killed Turks, then Turks came and took their land back. sorry but enough lying. these Armenians cant stop twisting the truth. why not say it looks greeks were killing Turks and the island had to be separated?

It is not two nations honey, it’s one nation, the Turkish occupied side is not recognized as a separate nation, you obviously are educated in turkey. This is the same argument when it comes to the Armenian genocide, you would probably say that it was not a genocide, the it was a war and both sides killed each other. This is a typical Turkish education and mentality. I can also inform you on karabakh, but my long answer might bore the readers, so I’ll stop here.

There is no Armenian genocide as Armenians backstabbed the empire during war. The Turks didn't just wake up one day and decide to kill all the Armenians... Armenians were provoked and armed by the Russians to land grab. If you backstab a nation where you lived peacefully for hundreds of years, you're gonna get punished in any part of the world. This isn't typical Turkish education this is blatant fact. Also Cyprus is not one nation and anyone who claims it is, is just fooling themselves. The fact that TRNC isn't recognized by anyone doesn't change a single thing. Greeks started killing Turks in Cyprus so Turkey leveraged its right to intervene as was written in agreement between the 3 nations. Calling it "occupied" is literally politically motivated just like calling the death of Armenians a genocide. All of these technicalities are just tools for politicians to provide political pressure, nothing more. @@carpetemporium5957

@@ivan.jeremic Actually turks are their own race. Unlike Armenian who are redneck Persian are mixed with Syrians. Turks are Asian people, the other 12 states of Turks are oriental, and they are not mixed race like Armenians. They are also not Greeks, who were slave colonies of Romans for 1000 years and 500 years of the Turks. That's why Greeks are not a race just like Egyptians anymore. Mongols conquered this world with Turks, Mongols wiped out many races and reduced the temperature of the earth by 4 Celsius. So calling Turks Mongolians or Arabs is an illiterate joke. All Arabs got their independence from the Turks. You cant get independence from your own people lol. relax ivan relax.

@@ivan.jeremic forgot to ask, you do know there are other 12 states of Turks right go all the way to China, right? Turks never denied they are Asian people? Those 12 stars on Turkish emblems represent that. they are also cousins to Koreans and Japanese. Before you speak you need to know what is in insult. you aint insulting the turks you are complimenting them.
