yeah most people who don't realize how it works don't understand why that happens. But they don't actually get told "USB Cable" they are told "A15 location 0159. When they scan that it says "Pick 2" they pick 2, enter the amount picked and scan the bin, then it'll say the next location etc, Well at least that's how warehouses like the one in the video works.Nowadays new warehouses exist where you mostly stand in one place.

When I was a kid medical help was the only thing you "needed" really fast. There were no stores open really late except for Farm Stores, no 24hr news or channels. People actually SLEPT at night. Such extremely high regard shown for "the customer" and such low regard for the warehouse employee which can very well also be the customer. We're reaching new highs of hypocrisy and greed for superficial reasons rather than focusing on helping the important problems of the world. Amazon's success is a reflection of what we hold most important.

You can't go on the floor with your phone, and they have walk thru metal detectors and screening when you leave. They tag all products with a security chip, so if you try to steal it will ring thru the detectors. When you are packing and an item is missing for that order you have to ring it as missing or it won't allow you to continue on your computer screen. Either way they know it's missing before you even make it to the doors.

I'm from Indianapolis and I I did picking at the Amazon fulfillment center in Whitestown, IN last year for a whopping 3 days. They couldn't pay me enough to go back to that bs. I got written up on my 2nd damn day for having a 70 something production rate instead of 80 something (my 2nd day on the floor). This was after I was ordered to walk the length or width (can't remember which) of the 1.2 million square foot warehouse about 4 times because the end I was supposed to be on ran out of carts. Then the area I went sent to sent me back and I got sent back AGAIN and sent back AGAIN. All that then they expect you to power walk your entire 10 hour shift. I never went back after that. There is NO rhyme or reason to their picking process. You could get an item in aisle 1 then the next item is on aisle 90 then the next is on 5 or something for the same order. Not to mention the giant blisters all over my feet and horrible muscle cramps in the middle of the night. Oh and there is either 4k or 7k people that work at that location. Getting in and out of there was nothing short of a nightmare let alone your lunch break with all those people piling in there. Now I did bring home $450 after taxes for those 3 days but now I make more money doing easier work. It's funny because they started calling me recently to go back. No thank you.

LushLife1325 They sure as hell pay well considering they hire pretty much anyone. Warehouse jobs are entry level jobs. Expecting to be treated like wonders is a bit far fetched. And considering the pay you get, Amazon pretty much gives you enough reason to stay with that beefy paycheck. So sure, it's a hefty job and it obviously wasn't for you. But others beg to differ.

Blister on your feet... It's just probably your feet doesn't fit your shoe size or may come from (fast walking, crouching, turnings, and etc) or you're just probably a couch potato before working there.... Second that's chasing what you're doing EXAMPLE aisle 5 to 90 is consider chasing.... Chasing shouldn't last long probably 30 items from each far locations and after that you'll be place in a good path where you'll probably be in one AISLE picking up 5 times per aisle and then going next door and blah blah blah... 80 Rate? LOL so damn easy try to be direct time and try not to talk to your neighbors. Done. Goodbye.

I worked at the sacramento ca center for the first 6 months it was open. I am a big strong athletic man (not crazy fit, just 6'5" 250) and im 28 and in perfect health. My first week i put on 100 miles walking. Second week, another 100 miles with blisters. At one point my feet looked like denzel's in "glory". I wrapped so many bandages on them on breaks that i could barely fit into my shoes. The by week 5 the 100 miles wasnt a big deal, but again im in perfect health and young. I saw another lady in the medical office (while bandaging my feet) and she was in her 60s, on her third day with the company, working her 3rd 12 hr shift in a row, complaining that she couldnt walk and sobbing. The medical person (not a doctor) said "well, amazon isnt for everybody." I actually was very good at my job. I was a counter first, but frequently ran totes for pickers. After 3 months or so of that, i was "promoted" i guess to amnesty (picking up stuff that fell out of bins). But upon my transfer, my weeks became 150-200 miles each. And in order to keep up with physical demand, i would do between 200-300 pushups during my shift and rest of the day. From november 1 to april 30, i went from 6'5" 250, to 6'5" 205. I hadnt been that thin since i was in the concord blue devils drum corps 10 years ago. Look it up.

Amazon will pack anything the same speed, the difference is when the order is released to get packed. Amazon prime orders get released to the system immediately, you even get email confirmation instantly, and you get it in 2 days; where non- prime orders are electronically held up, or those orders would arrive just as quick. It takes me 10 days to get the same order that I used to get 2 days when I was prime, the only difference is non- prime is flagged and purposely not released to packing. So in essence, we are paying Amazon to be Prime members so they don't hold our orders back, as everything is under the same roof that is amazon fulfilled. Would be like going to Walmart paying for your groceries, but they don't let you have them for 10 days. It's BS!
@coacht1738

This is idiotic. They're not holding your stuff back they're prioritizing. Of course people who paid extra for prime would be prioritized. If you go to Walmart you get to walk out with your groceries because you're doing the footwork and paying the gas

I don't know what it's really like to work at one of these places, but I think it would be pretty cool. In fact, I think is want to try a place like this out for myself one day. That still sounds like the job I'd want to try. I'm not too keen on dealing with customers, or having to tell people what to do and when to do it. Since my last comment, I finally turned old enough to start working small jobs, (I'm 16, almost 17), and I got hooked up with a job at my local grocery store as a cashier and part-time shelf stocker. Let me tell ya, it's just as bad as people say it is. Dealing with customers just gets to you sometimes because there's always people who think the world revolves around them. I think a nice job just dealing with shipping and packaging would really take stress off of my back and help me to adjust to manual labor.

Yes, you can have Amazon store your items. I don't know how you go about doing it, but I have picked many items that were owned by Amazon sellers and fulfilled by Amazon. I personally don't know if I would want my stuff stored in an Amazon facility because the storage bins are way overstuffed and items get damaged because of this. Don't know if this is true for all of the FCs but this was the norm at the one I worked at, which as it happens is the facility that is in the video, but don't be fooled by what the bins they showed in the video look like, because this video is old and those bins have never looked this nice and organized, they only look nice for the interview.

As long as you can pass a saliva test and have a heartbeat, your good! Just a warning though, this will perhaps be the most repetitious job you have ever encountered, especially if you get pick( it seems like that's all they ever need). Get a good pair of walking shoes, preferably with some cushion. You'll thank me, trust me! You don't want to be that guy at orientation wearing vans. Your feet will hurt regardless, but your be much better off with the proper footwear. If they have a position called MOD and if you get it, TAKE IT!!!! You make books and it was known as the cushiest job at my former warehouse(ONT2). Other than that don't expect to be treated like anything but a robot; that is no understatement. As soon as your four week or whatever learning curve time they use at the warehouse your going to is over, they expect 100% rate 100% of the time (which can honestly be impossible at times, especially during "peak"). While they are usually reasonable and will talk to you if your rate is down multiple days, some managers have been known to call you to the desk just because you missed rate one day out of the week. Other things to consider: you have no choice in schedule or position. You are assigned what they need and cannot transfer until you hit the three months or you local warehouse's requirement. "15 minute breaks" are not 15 minute breaks. I'm sure you will hear at least multiple times a week that a break is "2 1/2 minutes walk there, 10 minute break, and 2 1/2 minutes back." That might not sound too bad, but you've never had a break go faster until you've worked at Amazon. On a more positive note: you get 401k, medical benefits, and 3-5 stocks. Plus nightshift usually offers an extra .50 cents pay. Overall, its not the worst, but its not the best.

I was there for about almost 2 weeks, I couldn't do it. And plus it was a whole bunch of mandatory overtime, and they gave you hardly any breaks. Probably got 2/3 15 minute breaks every few hours. All the money in the world they pay isn't going to make me ever work for them again, my health comes first and that's what they fail to realize.

Robots. OK. Well, hopefully you won't depend on the income that these thousands and thousands of people per center depend on. And Amazon pays very very well. Don't believe everything you hear. Remember, Amazon FC's are not warehouses, they are shippers of individual orders to a customer, one book and a cd, a stuffed animal and a WII, Somebody still has to pull that and put these individual items away. They've been around a long long time and very successful. Clearly they are doing something right. I suppose you're just young and don't know how bad the employment is right now, despite any numbers, many people just gave up. Hopefully that won't be a problem for you. I work there, I'm grateful for it, it's a solid good job, good pay, and they expect your best. Isn't that the American system of work and compensation? And it's not un organized, it's disorganized. From a person who has a BS. thanks for your thoughts though. I'd never suppress any comments, but will counter them when I feel they are off base. Take care.

Abe at the time that was a very high technology place. Shows how little you now. Now they do have the more automated warehouses where pickers literally get the bins needed in front of them.

4:11 no high visible vests in loading dock. I know people that have been fired for that offense ..

This was 9 years ago, more than likely became a fire-able offense sometime later due to accidents. Or it could be that isn't an area where the vests are required, doesn't appear to be so from what little is shown. Looks like that isn't a space that would be frequented by pit vehicles, etc.

+Waqar Jehandad - Any bike brand worth talking about won't ship bikes to customers in boxes, they have to be built, tuned and safety checked by a qualified mechanic + only a complete idiot would buy a bike without test riding it first and bike shops would refuse to stock the brand if they were expected to provide test rides / advice for ppl to just buy it online. When I was in retail if you came into my store to get my help before u bought online the next time u came in the help would be much more minimal, and you know when u just got a dick customer who used you.

+Joshua Hannah I definitely would have agreed on this if I haven't worked there already. the most of the people work there are temps, others who could manage to stay over a year are promoted cause it's very rare. I worked there for more than four times as a temp so what I have said is based on experience. in Amazon the condition to get promoted is usually not the qualifications but the ability to stay there for longer. I haven't seen any manager riding the bike though.

I've been there since july. Starting entry level wage is $12 but since I'm working weekend night shift during peak season I'm getting $15/h. There is pressure to make a certain rate, which if you try really isn't that hard. And yes, it is insanely busy. 10 hour shifts and there's always constant work.

I'm working at Amazon as of right now , and basically all you weak people really wouldn't make it it's built for tough and people with good work ethics. The work is really simplistic. I still try and catch 2 shifts mainly because the money is real good considering I'm still in highschool.
