I'm a cruiser and have taken many. I just recently done Encore ( Norwegien) . i went solo. My first solo, i just wanted to try it out. I loved the solo cabin. The ship had over 4'000 people, way more than i was use to. It was not enjoyable. They nickeled and dimed you for everything. The morning of the last day was a pain and took forever, so many people waiting to get off the ship, not good. My best cruise experinces would have to be Princess from out of San Francisco. Smaller ships and less people to me are by far much enjoyable. You pay all that money why not enjoy : less people, chaos, quality of food, able to move around, can go freestyle wben it comes to dinning, can go to any show and it's enough sitting for everyone, you are not nickle and dimed. This ship is just toooooooooooooo much. I love people and getting to know the crew, that means alot to me. I'm 65 and i love being at sea and dressing up ( Captain's night). God bless you all.

I did Haromny out of Miami, first cruise, 6000 people, 2500 crew, most of the time I kept asking where is everybody? The only time we saw a crowd was when we were going into the shows, even then it took only minutes to get in and get a seat. Still amazes me to this day how so few people we saw. Boarding and disembarkation was literally walk on and off, very little queuing. Being a lover of the sea and ships, the one thing i was dissappointed with was it looked more like a block of flats than a ship, so you never really got the feeling of being on board a ship.

@@MrTrucktortrailermanYou're going to trust one person's opinion? Not all ships are equal. Some have more space per person than others. Some of the smaller ships may carry less people, which sounds more intimate, however, they may actually have less space (sq footage) per person. There is a great KZbin blog that talks about this, I wish I could have found it to add here.

@@SD_SaysYeah, there are even cruise liners that offer $11 per day cruises (technically that should be $200 including port fees etc. for 4 1/2 days) though what you buy is what you expect (mostly in the form of fellow passengers).

That’s just how Russians are. Several decades of Soviet-style communism and now Putin’s ruthless autocracy have dehumanized them. Look at how they treat Ukraine. I spent three weeks in Russia several years ago as a tourist and I have never met such jaw-droppingly rude people in the whole of my life. The many horror stories I could tell you would curl your hair. I hated that country so much that I never want to set foot there again.

I've been on Symphony of the Seas as well as the new Wonder of The Seas, Oasis of the Seas and Spectrum of the Seas. The Oasis class ships are just amazing. I have never felt overwhelmed except during high-lunch times if going to buffets. I don't use the pools, instead I just spend my time relaxing by drinking, walking, seeing shows and taking my time. There are plenty of areas to find solace, the ships are so huge you don't realize there are thousands (except during launch/end day). I enjoy city life, so these ships bring that level of familiarity on my trips. Don't get me wrong, you wont get the same level of personal service as you do on a smaller ship or a luxury cruise, but if you want to experience what it might be like going on a intergalactic cruise of the future, these ships are it!

It looked like a scifi movie of a crowded dystopian human processing factory. Nothing enjoyable, just engines, washing dishes and sheets, and the computers they use to operate the ship. That's nice, esp for technically minded folks, but the US offers no "5th-grade physics classes! 12th grade for kids who complete 3+ years of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus (simultaneously w/physics) and biology, chemistry. My engineer ex would like this but even he would love to see the plates of food passengers would be served more than workers removing lobster shells. Was this doc made for executives at the cruise line to learn their side of the cruising experience? Ice skating instead of swimming pools was a bizarre touch--perhaps what Russians might do on a cruise, but def not where others would spend their time at sea! They go on cruises ton escape snow and ice. Swimming pools, sunbathing, eating, maybe a scuba diving adventure, perhaps dinner, drinks and dancing in the evening, and a stroll around the decks in the moonlight? Things they can't do back in Minnesota or Wisconsin in February...

Except we saw only men washing dishes, shelling lobster, not a single shot of a plate served to a passenger, or people enjoying the sun poolside, having a drink in a lounge, enjoying the ocean and sunshine!! It was only workers and kitchens, engine rooms, launbdries, etc! I saw nothingt that a passenger on a cruise on this ship would actually enjoy. They mentioned the gym but failed to show any shot of it. Same for ports--we saw a dock, but never why we'd love to visit that town, city, or country. Like they were trying to attract buyers or workers, not passengers. WEIRD.

What do you mean by, "you can't go back"?? Also, are kids not allowed? No casinos?? No art shows, or poolside music?? Why not?? SHEESH--my dad's pontoon seems more fun than the viking!🤷 That sounds like a cruise ship nursing home-- no casinos, but there bingo every night!😅 Yeeeeaaaahhh, that cruise ship seems to be equipped FOR, "the faint at heart" 🥱 🥱 🥱 WITH THAT BEING SAID: I THINK I have the answers to my previous questions... (1st question)- u can't go back, ("meaning "home,") maybe bc your kids didn't want the responsibility of taking care of you- (Questions 2-5) Bc, kids are a different kind of "special" these days. OR MAYBE, it is bc kids in today's society, ARE EXTREMELY disobedient towards some adult human beings they(kids)... With THAT being SAID, I blame the parents! "No casinos"- PROBABLY BC THEY REPLACED THOSE, FOR BINGO! "No fees to eat in special restaurants" I'm sure that most likely, the chefs cook accordingly, bc there's so many,(elderly with pre-existing ailments), therefore strict diets are mandatory, YET, I doubt that there's ANYONE in the entire earth, that will turn down free food! "No art shows, and no roaring tunes by the pool"- first off all, the roaring tunes comment, is HE-LARRYUS!!😂 Maybe, there's no art shows, bc the captain or whomever is, in charge of the activities upon the ship chose wisely in making sure that everyone is given their own free will, to participate when and where, the activity of their choice, feels calm, peaceful, and comfortable-- but most of all, that each and every individual onboard the cruise ship, experiences plenty of JOY, LAUGHTER, AND FUN!!❤ LASTLY,"NO ROARING TUNES by the pool" I'm almost 5000% SURE, that there's no weird music playing while ppl are trying to actually enjoy their time in the pool, to strengthen parts of the body that somehow SEEM to have gone on an everlasting lunch break OR retirement bc EVERY MUSCLE, LIGAMENTS, TENDONS,AND OF COURSE YOUR BONES, which can be EXTREMELY stubborn at times!!, so much so, that when the pain flares up, and ("on a scale of 1-10, how would you describe the amount of pain your experiencing right at this moment?")becomes extremely unbearable, THEN, your primary care Dr prescribes you anywhere between 8-12 of the WEAKEST pain meds on the MARKET!!!???!!! ONE OF THE BEST WAYS KNOWN TO MAN, that'll guarantee results, AND have loads of fun, all the while, getting in some much needed FANTASTICAL EXERCISING BY-- YOU GUESSED IT, SWIMMING! And what a PERFECT cruise for the elderly-- MY EDUCATED GUESS + YOUR explanations of this cruise ship + the name of the ship("Viking"), kiiiindaaaaa LEADS ME TO believe, that this is NOT some ordinary Cruise service here-- ONCE AGAIN, THE INFO I'VE COLLECTED, ALONG WITH THE INFO COLLECTED FROM OTHERS-- LEADS ME TO BELIEVE, THAT THIS VERY "CRUISE SHIP" (THE VIKING), that YOU speak so highly of, is NOT even a "cruise ship" darling-- BUT INSTEAD, ACCORDING TO YOUR BRILLIANT WAYS OF WOOING ALL THOSE ( YES! INCLUDING MYSELF) NEVERTHELESS, YOUR VERY DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF THE VIKINGS, LED ME ACTUALLY TO SEE THINGS, AS IF I WAS RIGHT THERE WITH YOU-- I CAN VERY MUCH SO SAY, THAT I HAVEN'T USED THE IMAGINATION PART OF MY BRAIN, IN YEARS!!! MAYBE SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL 6TH GRADE?🤷🧐😮‍💨 I MUST ABOVE AND BEYOND, EXPRESS AND APPRECIATE THE AUTHOR OF THIS VIVED READ! FOR REMINDING ME, THAT TONS OF BITS AND PIECES OF MY LIFE, , MANY MANY MANY YEARS AGO-- YET, THE CHILD IN ME is 10xs more, slick, witti, and candid with the tongue.,.. I just see our language deteriorating and it's such a beautiful language. I know cell phone abbreviations have a lot to do with it. Languages do change over time, but we seem to just be discarding all the rules now. No offense meant, but I think we do need to call it out. I've seen sentences of 5 words with 2 of them misspelled. Do we really want to lose the knowledge we've gained? - we even had "Spelling bees"! I agree with you about the ship being a huge, moving entertainment center. It's not good for the ocean or marine life. Just think of all the garbage alone!! When an accident occurs (God forbid), it's a nightmare, and captains and crews have been known to abandon the passengers to their own fate. In fact, in one case, the musicians saved the people! The captain is supposed to stay last, in fact, even go down with the ship. I don't quite see that helping anyone, but don't take off and leave the chaos on board behind and people to die! Small remark please: The measurements of the "Symphony" are Length 361m, Beam 47.5m, Draught 9.3m. If the "Symphony" was a block-shaped vessel, she would displace about 160,000 cubic meters of water. Her block coefficient is roughly 0.75 so it means that she is displacing about 120,000 cubic meters of water. about 120,000 tons. This is Archimedes! Her GRT (Gross Registered Tonnage) is really 228,081tons. However these "tons" are used for the measurement of ships internal volume, nothing to do with weight! One GRT is equivalent to 100 cubic feet. In other words, the internal volume of the "Symphony" is 22,808,100 cubic feet. Capt. Victor Ben-Cnaan

I've been on my first ever two cruises in the last two years, after thinking for 59 years that cruises were for old fuddy-duddies. The ships I've been on are not on the scale of the subject of this video, but I get it. Fundamentally, waking up in a new port with somewhere new to explore every day, without having to pack and repack your suitcase, it's just a fantastic concept. My observations on these mega ships, admittedly without having been on them, would be that they are trying more and more to make the ship such an inherent attraction that the passengers don't bother going ashore and, instead, spend their time (and, of course, their money) on the ship. So I think I will probably stick to the smaller ships, where the destinations are the key, even while providing plenty of options and entertainment on board.

Thanks to Russian journalist Vershinin Aleksey and his team for bringing us on a super interesting visit of Royal Caribbean's giant of a ship and all the places traveler's don't see like the helm, kitchens, mechanical rooms, etc. fascinating! The only thing I don't agree with is saying staff are well paid, quite the contrary, they often work 12 hour days, 6 days a week and share windowless rooms on the bottom of the ship.

We never saw a single shot of where passengers will spend their 3 to 5 days or whatever. Thousands of passengers and not a room, much less the chance to compare the classes, only one empty ordering tablet in a bar--no lounge with a view. This could have been a skanky old hotel in Vegas because passengers never see laundries, water distilleries, engines... Where were the reasons we'd want to be there?

Having not crewed on one of these ships I can't comment with experience, but there are compensations to all this. Some passenger-facing crew receive "tips." These include servers/waitstaff in the dining rooms (not the cafeterias though), and the stewards who see to maintaining passenger cabins. All of the crew receive food and accommodation as part of their compensation -- in other words, they eat and sleep for free, unlike the passengers. Most of the crew are from countries where people are not paid as well as people in Western countries. Yes, they have to work hard and don't get much experience of the places they sail to, but consider other occupations where this is also the case. Most of the crew on US Navy aircraft carriers, for instance, almost never go out on deck, and live in similar, perhaps even less comfortable conditions. And unlike the Navy, cruise workers do have limited recreation facilities for their own use, out of sight of the passengers. I've cruised several times, and in conversations with many cruise workers I found that most of them had been working on these ships for years -- if they were mistreated or too poorly paid, they obviously wouldn't continue to do this work. They are not slaves.

If you watch various cruise review channels, the main problem with huge ships like this (whether or not you like the idea of being in a floating hotel/mall/amusement park with thousands of other people) is that you have to reserve ahead for meals and shows or get on line and wait, or risk missing out. And embarking/disembarking is also slow because of all the people. That does not sound relaxing or fun.

I went on a cruise as a young teen and more than half the shiit you said is a lie....and it was carnival cruise which isn't known as the best to say the least😂😂 didn't have to make reservations for food, everything was on a timed schedule and we didn't have to wait in lines to get into anywhere or to do anything.

@@BigZoe99 I was on a Carnival Cruise and they had several restaurants. One of them was a self serve cafeteria so there was very little waiting. The food wasn’t gourmet but wasn’t bad considering it was included in the reasonable price I paid for the cruise.

Exactly! It's a mid-range hotel wrapped around a shopping mall with an amusement park on the roof... and several thousand people trying to squeeze into ten hot tubs. And then you disembark with 15K other tourists and try to squeeze into souvenir shop and grab a fast food meal of "authentic" local cuisine before you have to get back onboard. But I suppose if that's one's thing, go for it. I do wonder what the food is like but with that many people to feed, I doubt they do much better than Applebee's or TGIFridays.

This video offers an amazing glimpse into the world of luxury yacht production! The craftsmanship and attention to detail in these shipyards are absolutely mind-blowing. But it does raise a question-do we really need this level of extravagance when there are so many global challenges? Still, it’s fascinating to see how engineering and artistry come together to create something so opulent. Incredible work capturing this process!

The tonnage the author mentioned is actually gross tonnage. It is a measurement of enclosed volume rather than displacement. The displacement of the ship is actually about half of that number, close to 100000 metric tons.

10 hot tubs for around 6k people?? We had four or so on the carnival legend. And we had to deal with people's kids jumping in and swimming through the hot tubs. They were completely full the whole time. Hot tubs are my favorite part of a vacation, so that was a real bummer for me. Plus, the pool had sea water and wasn't warmed at all. It was an alright cruise for 2012. Still too many people for me. I couldn't imagine how long boarding would take. Took hours for us jusf standing there. Just too many people.

She’s truly a beautiful ship, we sailed on her several years ago not long after she made her maiden voyage and had one of the best, most memorable vacations, we stayed busy the entire time taking in the number of shows onboard, from sun up til after midnight many nights, we met a number of wonderful people, too! We had an ocean balcony room though this was the first time we didn’t get a chance to enjoy it, that’s how busy we were (plus we had a suitcase filled with a variety of themed rubber ducks we planted all over the vessel. My favorite restaurant was the Alice and Wonderland one, I can’t recall its name, the wait staff was on point, fun and entertaining, the chef’s food was superb! This was the first time we didn’t plan for any excursions at all, and we were glad we didn’t. Royal Caribbean is one of the most well built, classy, luxurious, comfortable with well-trained employees on the seas, and it’s also one of the few that’s taken the steps to protect our environment, oceans and the aquatic and plant life in it.

We never saw one of those spaces on this doc! Not a swimming pool, a lounge, and the only bar was empty, just an ordering tablet. Not a room, a spa, a massage, a sauna. The only entertainment was a performance on the ice, with ice skating during the day--what passengers are getting away from. No sunshine except on the docks, and no ports of call, just the dock. Antiseptic? Do they go places where people can visit a white sandy beach or scuba dive? Do people lounge in the sun by the pools? Or just shoot thru a water tube in a dystopian world--we never saw a room in any price range, and not a balcony or a window! The videos posted by employees of cruise lines of their rooms and jobs are more inviting than this behind the scenes doc that forget what was in front of the scenes, why we;'d want to be there.

Wow, 100 plus years after Titanic and these ships can't avoid EACH OTHER. As large as the ocean is, they collide! And everyone seems to be yucking it up about it. Wow. Are ADULTS running this thing? Do they all speak the same language? Who is in charge of HIRING and FIRING the crew? Clearly, the greed for the buck will overcome any safety concerns the corporation has with its customers.
