You are right here. I have been working on Cruise ships for 12 years, since 2002. Let's say that after 2008, the payment rate dropped drastically, and continued dropping, due to the fact that these companies, started hiring mainly people, that are from a low-paid ethnic origin, which is good so these people can work - but you get the reasons why. Anyways, unfortunately that's how the world works.

One thing I must comment on, it will be nice if the worker's payment is actually great, perhaps officers, and captains are paid well, but not those workers at the laundry, cold prep stations, etc. If that were the case the gratuity will not be mandatory. I know is a necessary mandate as many individuals will not freely do so. If you cruise, set up a separate fund to provide additional tips for all of the Staff that serves you and helps you. This action allows them to have better pay by the end of the cruise. Happy sailing and cruising.

Passengers traveled on large ships like these throughout the 19th century, where passenger air travel didn't get going until the middle of the 20th century. Well, the ships of the 1800s were large but they didn't have quite the diversity of amenities and activities that these cruise ships today have. They had cabins, a restaurant/dining room, bars, and I think a stage and live shows also. But all of the rest we've seen on these cruises including swimming pools, I don't think they had

Cruise ships used to be about the ports of calls. Now, the ship itself is the destination. I have been on board the biggest ship (i have been cruising for 28 years). One of the design objectives they accomplish is that with some 5k plus people on board, it has to feel uncrowded. It does feel like that, and minimal vibrations. I was recently on the Meraviglia and barely felt movement. At this point, stopping at Nassau was a waste; I took a quick walk and returned to the ship to enjoy the spa. As I said, the ship itself is its own destination. One funny thing, especially at the buffet, is that people lose any sense of time and space. When food is in the periphery, people lose perception. Even tho they can clearly see a line going on, some will cut in line. The passenger thinks that a cruise vacation means all bets are off when it comes to drinking and think laws do not exist on board. On the Meraveglia, I didn't see the type of passengers you would usually see on Carnival. I did hear a drunken woman trying to start something in the dining room. In all my 28 years cruising, I only had two rough seas adventures. Like, As I said, I am at a point I like staying on the ship because it is a destination itself. Me, I spent my time in the saunas!!! Staff shortage is happening globally; I did notice this on the Meraveglia. Private Island tho, is one of the best I have seen. I hope they don't overbuild and stay almost untouched the way it is now. No, I am not a travel agent, I should be one, but I can not sell even boiling water. I wish I could like an agent I know that has a group of Plastic surgeons that once a year for training and staff. Big money. That travel agent works just on that group and he could open his own travel agency with the commission he gets from that group. I tried to sell once, but I am not good at it, i am good at taking cruise vacations, :)

Having been fortunate enough to go on a couple of 14 night cruises, we have had a look at world cruises, which I haven't bothered getting myself excited about after the Mrs pointed out that "our house cost less than that".

We took a cruise on the ship when it was new out of Miami, it was very nice and yes it is very large.

That was so epic, I love it. but is there a hospital on board?
@politicsuncensored5617 Жыл бұрын
Yes & with doctors. I would however suggest having good medical insurance of your own before going on a cruise. It could come in handy in foreign ports & countries if you have a life threatening problem. Shalom

She's actually over 130 feet longer than you mentioned. You also said the size of the propellers being 50 feet in diameter but they seemed at best 30ft, my home is 40ft long interior wise and certainly can easily be perceived at about 50ft or more and for their size i'm making this comparison. Finally you said those engines are the height of a 3 story building but you look about 1/3rd its height as you walked by it. Rant over.

Huh?

I think its a translation thing and its 50 circumference not diameter.

Ohh...i just had to check this liner out... So, for me and my husband and two (grown) children 7-8 days in two suites with departure from Florida in fall -25, would cost us $6000-ish. The airline ticket to arrive (and departure) in Florida is additional. Guess we have to start saving up 😋🚢

I would've liked to see the hospital on board :) maybe do a part 2? Also, what an amazing ship!!! I thought Icon of the Seas was the largest, but now I'm not sure lol. I look forward to eventually going on my first cruise. ♥
@Drknnja Жыл бұрын
Icon will be 245kGT of displacement. So it will hold the crown when it goes into service next year.

I found it interesting that the cruise company allowed him to touch/handle items in the kitchen meant to be served to passengers (post or pre pandemic), without some sort of protection. They even filmed some crew handling food without wearing some sort of gloves. No wonder there have been "viral uprisings" on some ships. I'm not a germaphobe, but most restaurant in many countries have stringent guidelines about food handling. I'm surprised it's not even more stringent on board a cruise ship, since they worry greatly about "outbreaks".

Yeah no gloves touching a lobster opening a can of soupy food grabbing some with a spoon then leaving seems like it’s not 100 safe
@Drknnja Жыл бұрын
Even on land, gloves are not required (in many US jurisdictions). Only when switching tasks must they be washed.

I am a SCIENCE NERD!! I loved this video! Truly, if I were to book a cruise, I most ABSOLUTELY would want to ask about seeing things like the Engine Room, the Bridge, etc! Someone in the comments mentioned that these ships are "destinations" in and of themselves... and that's true! :) I probably would not even want to leave the ship at all... why risk it, that's my thought... there is SO MUCH cool stuff to do onboard, I genuinely see no REASON to leave the ship! :)
@science-channel Жыл бұрын
I totally agree!

There is a behind the scenes tour you can take, towards the end of your cruise ($). Including the engine control room, navigation bridge, galley, laundry,

I get a kick out of the boat doing the water spray, like it's chasing the big ship out of port. Like that video of the baby elephant chasing the safari vehicle then giving a little bleat before it turns around and goes back to mom :0D
