The UPS Worldport in Louisville, Ky., is the center of the company's international shipping operations. It's the size of 90 football fields, sorts 350,000 packages an hour and contributes 20,000 jobs to the local economy. We took a peek inside their busiest shift: 11p.m. to 3a.m. a week before Christmas.

Of course they show the air hub. Every package is treated like royalty because of the money they make. Show one of the larger ground hubs during peak and it will be a totally different story.

I've been at UPS for many many years. Like any job has its pros an cons. However my advice go to school do what makes you happy in life an succeed. The scariest part of working at UPS is being content with moving boxes around. Don't settle strive!

And for the opposite perspective; school is an _utter waste of time and money_ for many people (perhaps MOST), and getting a job for a company like UPS can really teach you about the value of doing hard demanding labor, teamwork, etc., while also providing FULL benefits (healthcare, vision, and dental insurance) and room for growth depending on your location. I know a 28-year-old guy who doesn’t even have a high school diploma who is making $85,000 a year after being a delivery driver for UPS for 2 years. He’ll be making close to $100,000 within the next 5-10 years. He got hired as a part-time warehouse employee, worked hard for about a year and a half before he was able to move up and be a delivery driver. Does he love every minute of his life as a driver? No. Does he like working hard and feeling as though he’s a part of something bigger than himself (being the final step in a worldwide operation that makes people’s lives easier by bringing their ordered products straight to their front door)? Yes he does, especially when his paycheck is deposited into his bank account. It’s just a LOT of hours of hard work.

My kids and I are about to become homeless because my brother and his wife took out a $350,000 loan on this house and never paid it back. My father bought this home in 1957 and this home was intended to be sold after his death and the funds distributed to my sister and brothers, and myself. I worked in a ground hub for 8 years and I can promise you, I've seen over a million plus in a 5 hour period and it's unreal. Imagine packages stacked as high as your head and as far back as maybe 2 football fields coming non stop and typically over 40 pounds. I had to load a Yankee Candle order that took six 40ft delivery trucks and four 30ft uhaul straight trucks. This was just the first day of peak.
