One of my favorite videos still is the night you and Kathy went out and you just thrashed on it until the gears ground, you ran out of gas, and hurt the motor. You were so happy like a 17 year old going out to make some noise on a Friday night. I can't believe that was over 4 years ago already.

My first hotrod circa 1983, was a 1977 corp. Delta 88 4 door. Because it was a "corporate" car, it had a Chevy 350 in it. I gutted it completely out, only thing left in the interior was the front bench seat, the empty dash, and the original steering column. By the time I got done f'ing around with it, it was running in the 13.50's/60's in the 1/4 (this was at 3370 pounds with me in it). Had 4:56 rear gears, manual shift TH350, stock engine other than the Team G intake, Holley 750 DP, Hooker Super Comp. headers, Engle cam with .488 lift, 290 Adv., 240 @.050 on a 108 CL, and a 3200 B&M converter. It was a blast, and I had a lotta wins in that car on the streets!

I've been watching UTG since the carb-throwing days and the pouring rain A-body trivia dump. There's no doubt that the one outstanding project through all this time is bottle rocket. It is good to see that the car has not fallen out of favor, like the 170 slant Miata, the 3 gen hemi Mitsubishi, and the turbo slant Dart. Just like in life, not every cool idea pans out. Bottle Rocket sure has, though. I think everyone who sees BR run, listens to that nasty idle, and watches it lay down the times that it does gains new respect for the lowly 318 and your ability to put together a great car like BR for minimal coin. It is the perfect flagship for a channel that fights for the little-guy car enthusiasts that have to eke out their hot-rod money after the bills are paid. Well done, Tony.

TOny i have a 318 id ran from 2016 to 2024 that had a strange noise at 2500 rpm or so almost like a knock. Originally the crank was turned 10/10 too. when you shared ur bearings were used and liked your tolerances loose i had to tell you this story. Those 8 years on my motor i chased this knocking noise around never could figure it out until this year my buddy and i tore it back down. I ordered the correct bearings on my reciepts back when we rebuilt it in 2016 The mains were correct but i missed i had STD bearings on the rods and 2 of the rod bearings were spun! This thing cold still made 60 psi and 20 at idle warm. Id beat on it plenty too. SURPRISINGLY i was able to polish the crank a little bit and bring it back. I checked everything with a micrometer and everything was ok , nothing out of round just some light scoring that i was able to polish out! My theory on why that didn't messs the crank up is the extra clearance, Even tho i could hear it beating. There is a short reel on my page of the noise it made when u revved it. So its cool to hear ur story of liking ur motors loose!

Just put 318 together for the winter beater 1980 Cordoba, stock crank, 340 summit cam, stock 302 closed chamber 80s heads with long headers and just enough exhaust to be drivable. Idea for future video I think u should do a video of how to read spark plugs For proper mixture.
@HipstersAndHippies16 күн бұрын
Add a few points on to that. Any resistance makes the electrical system have to work harder to overcome that. And any electrical use makes the altenator take that energy directly from the crank. So the less electrical resistance, the more energy is freed from the crankshaft. Higher cylinder pressures increasing electrical resistance in the gap.... (people now call it spark plug blow out, like the air is blowingit out like a birthday candle, hahaha) higher temperatures in the entire electrical system increasing resistance.... Hotter electrode tips increasing resistance as well as detonation under high load. Too cold of a plug don't clean themselves right, but decrease cylinder temps and electrical resistance. Tighter gaps decrease the amount of energy to fire the spark. Being easier on the coil and entire electrical system all the way back. As well as help with that "blow out" in high cylinder pressures and heat from the compression of the air itself. And also tighter gaps also help with these less conductive electrode tips we see everywhere all the time because they last so long. like nickle, iridium, or platinum. (But again, harder for the electricity, and therfore the electrical system and charging system) However a wider gap decreases emissions, raises the max cylinder pressures under combustion. And the faster it ignites the charge ever so slightly. And the faster it eats that up and expands, the faster the flamefrount hits the outside. Effectively slightly changing timing on the ignition. Just like making time up at the beginning of a run even if the car accelerated the same, or more like a shorter track because it took up more feet on the initial hit. Either way you think of it, it's going to be faster....so a wider gap is like adding 1/2 of a degree to a degree of timing. And because of that, gap should be taken into account when pushing timing to the edge. (Knowing all this, my thoughts and suggeston on a track night to get the extra edge. Is that a cheap set copper plugs, one step colder, opened way up. Maybe two steps colder if its just a few runs and done....With ac delco's electrically conductive die electric grease on all the ignition contact points. To get that extra edge. ..then after the runs or night out, just put the ones that actually clean the carbon off back in.😅)
