I discovered this technique too because I wanted to reuse sketchbook pages that had some writing on it. This opened up so many new possibilities, including recycling entire old notebooks into mixed media journals. (Sometimes I let bits of text show through and that looks very interesting as well.) I ended up completing one of those sketchbooks so much faster than any other! There's something about recycling that eases my perfectionism.

I make my own sketchbooks out of unused papers - gelli prints, paint roll off pages, book pages, fabric, envelopes, any paper that is lying around. That way there are no totally blank white pages.

really enjoyed the loose, organic feel of this - both with the 'wobbly' linework (and inaccurate, according to you, lol) as well as the whole panoply of media used, but also the feel of the art on top of the paper pieces, the layers... I just love the whole energy of this. Thanks for sharing!

To be able to draw would certainly help me artistically. Unfortunately, I cannot draw at all. But, seeing this I now realize ink lines abstraction would be similar. ❤

You are so right! Drawing helps but isn't 100% needed. Learn to lean on what you are good at instead.

Always been "afraid" of collage even tho I love it. The limitations challenge took away a lot of my fear, and so now I feel better about using all the bits & pieces I've been saving up for years. I'll be practicing in my own journal very soon. Thanks, Louise!

I've been covering up notes etc I no longer need in a small notebook, using gesso and collage and then writing new stuff on top (mostly thoughts about art). Now I'll extend the idea and add drawings too - thank you 😊

Having just done today's FYJ taster course assignment, I'm delighted to find yet another inspiring idea from you Louise. This one allows you to begin drawing without the 'fear of the blank page' . Really enjoying the course even with the challenges it throws up... if I can push through them, I can push through other troublesome aspects of my life! Thank you x :)
