Thanks for this demo! My takeaway is how much nail holes can weaken the wall; someday I hope someone invents a glue or epoxy strong enough to hold a performance horses shoes. I work with Standardbreds, so I've a professional interest.

That would be cool!

I'm not an expert, but why not using the glue used for the blogs on cow hooves as starting point. It's only an Idea, that's need development/Improvement. I like to watch The Hoov GP. That's where this Idea spawns from. They apply different types of blogs with glue to cow feet; and that glue holds these blogs at least 2 weeks or not more bevor they fall of or are removed. Maybe this guy can you point to the right people.

There are quite a few glue-on shoes. Prep is super important, but they work pretty well. Many are used for distance horses.

@@victoriabishop4607 right. When I said performance horses, I was thinking about Standardbreds. I don't know specifically, but I've never heard of an adhesive that would hold reliably for trotters going full tilt.

@@comesahorseman I work on quite a few retired Standardbreds. They hold up pretty well as long as the horse doesn't over reach or interfere, but I don't know that I would risk a race with them yet. There is a farrier, I think, in the UK who was working on a shoe for racing TB's that could be removed after the race and placed back on before the next one. I'm sorry I can't remember who it was. Maybe someone else on here would know.

To me, that looks too close 🤷🏼♀️

Keep at it Alex. Every farrier needs to see this. You could join forces with Pete Ramey.

Greetings from the U.S. I’m a bit surprised to run across a KZbin channel of someone with the same surname, given its not a very common last name, but your channel is great with lots of quality information. Keep up the good work!

Great surname! Also spelt with an 'e' 💪👍😀
@loganridgeway74543 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is a great surname and like you said it’s even rarer to find anyone that spells Ridgeway with the ‘e’. In my experience at least half the time or more it’s spelled Ridgway without the ‘e’. It’s interesting to know that the difference in spelling is prevalent there like it is here lol.

Really interesting Alex, thank you. I would like to see several more cross-sections further back through the frog. Might you be doing that? Or can you tell me where I can view that? Thanks.

Possibly! It could be something we do on a cadaver leg i guess

Would you say that right nail ended up too close to the vascular area ? It looks very close to me, just wondering if that’s always the case? The left one seems much better in distance.
@AlexRidgewayFarrier3 жыл бұрын
Quite possibly......but just goes to show the margin of error here?!
@dshe86372 жыл бұрын
Interesting to see how the nail is bent out of shape as it goes in. It wouldn't take much for it to get diverted into the sensitive area

"ease out" is such a mild description compared to the videos I've seen of farriers REALLY scraping out junk from that hoof!!

Takes me back to vet school days when we had to thoroughly describe anatomical structures to the prof. Thanks for this iinvaluable info. BTW, not sure about this being a saggital section, I believe this is more of a coronal section.
